I'm asian, so is one of my ex-co-workers, and we used to trade stories of terrible services we received at this place. My ex-co-worker has a white boyfriend, and they sworn that they got treated terribly because they are a mixed couple. I re-assured them that no, they are rude to everyone here. Also, I don't agree that a good authentic taiwanese restaurant is okay to have bad service. I am from Taiwan, and if they treat their customers like this in Taiwan, they will get a lot of "overturned" tables from angry customers. The wait staff in Taiwan may not be overly cheery or chatty. But they are not rude. I have NEVER been treated so badly when I was in Taiwan as in Rose Tea Cafe. It is a shame really. Good food, but such terrible, rude and hostile wait staff at Rose Tea Cafe. Even the owners are rude. My recommendation: Get your food to-go. But don't sit-down here. Because you will more likely than not get a terrible service, and left angry. And you might start considering what som... Read more

Here's my dinner last night at Rose Tea Cafe in Squirrel Hill: My fork had some kind of taiwanese food scum on it when it was placed on the table. When I brought it to the waiters attention he looked at me with annoyance, grabbed the fork and ran back to the kitchen without a word. I proceed to take out my chop sticks, which looked like they've been demolished by termites. Literally--splintered beyond belief. Can I get a frickin' utensil in this place? They ask us to move tables to accomdate a party of 4 (we're only 3) we do it despite the rocky start. No "Thank You." We order appetizers. Waiter checks on us 4 times to get our meal order but we're not ready (Pushy McPusherson). 30 minutes later...still no appetizers. We order dinner. A group of Asian patrons that took our larger table gets served dinner before we get appetizers. WTF? Dinner comes. We ask about the appetizers. Ooops...they forgot. Waiter scurries back to put in our order. LATE. We eat dinner. Drinks are unfilled. W... Read more

Rose Tea Cafe in squirrel hill has the absolutely worst customer service i have ever experienced. There one woman there who is the only one who speaks decent english and she feels she can dictate who gets to sit down at a table and who doesn't regardless of when you arrive... there food all contains MSG and comes in very small portions for the price... i have nothing good to say about this place...

My wife and I have been going to Rose Tea Cafe for years and always had a good experience. The staff is friendly and the food comes out fast. They usually have some Taiwanese special dish that is not on the menu but you can go wrong.

I love the Rose Tea Cafe. It's a really cute traditional Taiwanese restaurant that serves all kind of Asian cuisine. Each meal is definently big enough for two people, as they bring the entree and rice seperately and they give you more than enough food. Their egg rolls are delicious, and I recommend the Taiwanese Chunk Chicken (chicken chunks with tons of garlic cloves, red peppers, and other deliciousness). But the main reason I go there is for the Bubble Tea. It's perfectly fantastic!! They have soooo many flavors (I recommend the apple green tea), and it's the best bubble tea I've ever had.

If you're interested in trying some authentic Taiwanese food, give this place a try. The specialty drinks, smoothies, and bubble teas that they make here are delicious. I've never had a problem with the service, as the other reviewer suggests - they are very polite and attentive, but there is limited space in here, so it's understandable if they don't want you hanging out for a half an hour while other people are waiting to sit. I try to order something different each time I come here, and I've liked everything so far.

Probably the best authentic Taiwanese/Chinese eatery in Pittsburgh. Dishes are well-proportioned. But beware if you decide to sit around and chat! They'll boot you out before you even realize it! The kitchen also closes half an hour before closing, so don't even bother after 9:30pm.
