A very fine man with some flaws.  Although his flaws are not as great as some modern hatemongers would have them.

Believing that God exists and trusting in him is not the same as leading an exemplary life, because religion and a high moral standard are quite different things. They just often go together like love and understanding which are also quite different things. Think of the middle age crusaders. These misguided blighters believed in God and behaved like devils. As this is just about people who believed in God, and not in people who did this in any kind of right way I feel free to grant Martin Luther King five stars. I deem that his trust in God was strong and abiding. Cannot imagine that someone takes up a dangerous and gruelling task like his fight for human rights without faith in God. His confidence in God's forgiveness for human weaknesses may have been a bit too bold to please some of his fellow Christians, but I dare not say that it was misplaced.

For crying out loud, he held a doctorate in theology and was named after the most famous Protestant figure of all time.

Philanthropy (love of man) is an interesting phenomenon in the world. Jesus said that the 2nd greatest commandment was like unto the first: Love thy neighbor as thyself. But the 1st part of the greatest commandment is to love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, mind, soul and strength. It is common to find the 2nd part practiced by the world and the 1st part totally ignored. Because Jesus also said that if you love me obey my commands. That MLK did not do this seems obvious as he leaves behind the legacy of being an adulterer. In the Bible, adultery is equated with idolatry = worship of a false god. Neither adulterers nor fornicators will enter the kingdom of heaven. So did MLK believe in God? Probably, yet even demons believe and tremble. But did he put his faith in God? I would have to say no. He said some good things that benefitted men but he failed to give a testimony that honored or glorified God in that he did not bring forth fruits of repentance - which is the re... Read more

This man is living proof that one can profess to believe in God while physically and sexually abusing prostitutes (paid for by money rasied for civil rights efforts) and while supporting communist efforts. I'm sure Hitler believed in God too people.

The Reverend MLK...what do you suppose was my first clue? He had to have faith to get through the barriers he managed to get through at the time he did it. I still get goosebumps when I hear his last speech... this guy obviously had tremendous vision as well.

This is a given. Only a man with a strong belief system in a higher power could have had such a clear, wonderful vision, lacking hatred and delivering only peace.
