This album is one of the best OLP has to offer. It had a different vibe going on with the messages between the songs. Very different but delivers some great songs like Right Behind, In Your Life, Are Your Sad? Plus the price was awesome.

Sounds like your stereotypical alternative rock band - pop songs with instruments!

This is another ban who is getting better with time. They managed to write even better lyrics and weird guitar riffs into the songs this time. If you like alternative, you have to try these guys.

This album just shows what an amazing and talented group OLP really are. I personally have been a fan of OLP since their first album Naveed. Their music has always been there for me when I needed it and has helped a great deal. I am a devoted fan to this band because of how mind-blowing they are. It is really hard to find a band that you could even slightly compare to OLP because they just simply don’t exist. Obviously there are many talented bands out there but not the extent of OLP. OLP were able to release another album only a year after their third album's release and were able to make this album sound unique and amazing with a completely different sound with out making another album with the same sounding songs like some bands do. They have a huge fan base of people all over the world who the band them selves treat like people and respect just as much as we respect them. The drummer Jeremy Taggart is extremly gifted and really knows how to make a distinctive sound for the band. Mi... Read more

As always, Our Lady Peace has produced a wonderful, deep album. Though it's not my favorite album they have produced, it is still far, far better than almost anything else out there. The cd was named after the book, The Age of Spiritual Machines by Ray Kurzweil, and contains sound bytes of lines from this book. Although many claim it to be so, it is not a concept album, since most of the songs were written before the band. The lyrics from this album are inspirational, and the music goes along beautifully with them. I can listen to the cd over and over again and not tire of it. It is my hope that Our Lady Peace can save rock music in a world that is overrun by no-talent, superficial music.

This album to me is Our Lady Peace's best album to date. It has incredible depth and meaning. The lyrics are amazing and leave much to be interpreted by yourself. These songs are for everyone and can be taken very much to heart. The mix of intsruments is also unbelievable well done. I can listen to this cd(as well as their others) on repeat for ever without ever getting tired of it. My personal fav's from this cd are Middle of Yesterday and If you believe. An amazing cd by an amazing band. Also the book this cd is based on is very intriguing and a great read.

'Spiritual Machines' is Our Lady Peace's 4th album, and it just goes to show that a band can get this far and still be new and interesting, without having to recycle songs from previous albums. Slapping the label of 'concept record' on this effort need not apply... almost the entire thing was written before guitarist Mike Turner and vocalist/lyricist Raine Maida got their hands on the book 'The Age of Spiritual Machines' by Ray Kurzweil, which shows the struggle between humans vs. machines in the future. While some of the songs play off this theme, the album is almost entirely about human emotion. And although records of the same nature, such as Radiohead's 'Ok Computer', have a negative outlook on the idea, OLP says a big 'F*ck You' to machines and lets humans know we'll prevail. Songs like the uplifting first single 'Life' tell you: 'Life is waiting for you/It's all messed up but we're alive/Life is waiting for you/It's all messed up but we'll survive', while the catchy choruses ... Well, I don't know what that guy was talking about, but I'm no part of any team or anything, and this CD rocks, so take this guys comment with a grain of salt as well, cuz this album is one of the best rock CD's I have come by in a long time. the writing and melodies are so catchy, and there is a perfect mix of ballads and edgy rock, to satisfy anyone.

Our Lady Peace's new album, while sounding different from Naveed, Clumsy or Happiness, is still one of the most amazing albums i've ever bought. Even though it's partially based on Ray Kurzweil's "the age of spiritual machines", it still has a lot of elements that aren't from the book. best of all, it makes you think. it's also uplifting, even though it might not sound so at first-- "it's all messed up, but we're alive."

A great CD with great lyrics. Buy it right away. This is the best band that has come out of Canada, as well as one of the best bands of the world. The CD is deep, and has very well-written and well thought out songs. None of it gets repetive or annoying.

Spiritual Machines by Our Lady Peace is one of their best efforts yet. I am so proud of them. They have swiftly combined intellectual debates with pure musical ingenuity to create songs that will resonate through your brain well after you turn off your discman. Definitely shows the evolution of the band from Naveed to Clumsy to Happiness . . . to this. Amazing job:)

I love this band and all their many efforts! I just saw them in concert March 28, 2001 and it was one of the best shows I have ever attended! I have never seen so much emotion poured on to a stage in all my life! The album is a masterpiece and should be regarded as such! Raine is a suberbly talented musician/lyricist. OLP is a wonderfully creative band! I love this band and this album! Everyone should have one!

Just when i was beginning to think that all music today is being manufactured by old,fat men in business suits and geared toward an audience of those who live off of their hormones, Our Lady Peace has come along and once again restored my faith. With their latest brillant album, Spiritual Machines, OLP continues to break the music mold. Their music is original, inventive, and most of all, thoughtful, which is a characteristic that is hard to come by nowadays. There is something for everyone on this album, which i feel is one of the best albums i have bought in a long time. This album is more than just catchy songs though. Raine's lyrics are once again heartfelt and thought-provoking, with lines such as "I believe in yesterday and what it means to bleed and know that you're ok." This is one album i promise you will never get sick of, but after all, how is it possible to get tired of great music?

It appeals to the senses and stirs something within. I have always loved Our Lady Peace but this time they have taken me on a musical ride that I never knew existed. I find Spiritual Machines to be an inspirational allbum, one that makes you think. Our Lady Peace have successfully put together music that carries a message about society today. Each song draws the listener in and is so unique. Raine's falsetto is a great example of this on "Life," and the slow and sensitive "Are you Sad?" also shows OLP's creativity. Yep, i think SM ought to be rated as "great!" ~brennyjade

this album is absolutely perfect. the guys really did a great job of taking their own personal inspiration and putting it into words and music that will inspire generations to come. ray kurweil should be proud, as well as raine, mike, dean, and jeremy. truly a work of art in every way.

Spiritual Machines is a masterpiece, by far one of my favorite albums to date. I really like the concept of technology vs. spirituality, and the fact that the lyrics on this CD actually mean something, a rarity in today's music world. Songs such as "Everyone's a Junkie" and "In Repair" reminds us just how much technology has taken the life out of life today. But don't think that the album is entirely depressing! The message is one of hope and the music on it is wonderful as well. If you like the singles "Life," or "In Repair," you'll definatly love this album, its a total listen through!

wholy cow this is a damn good album!! I was surprised how solid the entire album is. And it has a lot of diversity, from killer ballads to high energy grunge. these guys write great songs!! Sometimes the singer get on your nerves, but the solid songwriting makes up for it.This album is definitely one of the best rock albums to come out in a while!!

Please take this CDs high ranking with a grain of salt. If you click on the user names of the vast majority of positive reviews for this CD, you will find that A) most of them have not reviewed anything else on this site, and B) most of the reviews came on the same day. To me, this means that these ratings might be bogus / biased - either because the same person left all of the ratings, or because an "Our Lady Peace" fan club got a hold of this site. Buy at your own risk.

Our Lady Peace does it again!! For the fourth time they have come out with a mind-blowing CD. With Mike's innovated guitar playing, Duncan's melodic bass lines, Jeremy's power driven beats, Raine's poetic/metaphoric lyrics and Ray Kurzweil's eerie look into the world of AI, this album is sure to cure the "oversaturated pop blues." The guy's concept album shows that they can do it all. If you're looking for an album that'll never leave you player, this would be the one.

am amazing album that has rhythm, depth, and some damn good solos. its as well rounded as an album could be, with soft songs (are you sad?) and some harder ones (everyone's a junkie) to the ones in between (if you believe). i strongly reccommend it for anyone who is a fan of our lady peace, everclear, matt good band, f11, etc.

Our Lady Peace is one of the greatest bands of all time and this album just proves that point. Raine has one of the greatest voices in music. If you've never heard OLP before I recommend starting out listening to Naveed(their first album) then Clumsy, then Happiness...Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch and working your way finally to this album. You can't help but totally fall in love with every song on every album. Few things are better!

Saw it here, went to the ourladypeace website to check it out. Sorry, don't like it. Sounds like an amateur new-age musician trying to play grunge. Too whiny, and the back beat is too shallow. Needs to add some tonal depth to his work. The lyrics were interesting, but not intriguing by any means; just shallow, like the music.

These guys know how to write a perfect melodic, catchy rock song. Nothing too difficult or hard to listen to, just good ol' fashioned alt-rock. Amidst all the bands out there today that are attempting this 'sound' and genre, these guys take the cake. I would consider them in the "elite" group with Pearl Jam, STP, Nirvana, and Soundgarden. Great album.

What an awesome cd, really shows off how olp can manipulate the mood in a song and raine's inspiring voice and lyrics add flavour to the already brilliant music. it's a great cd, stand out tracks like, 'life', 'middle of yesterday' and 'all my friends' really impact on you, makes you think about the future and 'right behind you' has a depth to it, it's hard to really understand it, therefor the more you listen, the better you form an opinion. 'in repair' is hauntly beautiful, amazing music(go Jeremy!) wonderful lyrics and a uplifting voice, the way it's put together, it's just well done. 'The wonderful future' impacts on you in a very different way then the other songs, much more mystical and airy, very lightheaded so to speak. 'Made to heal' is kind of a fun, party type song. it's a unique sound for olp, and personally i like it. 'Everyone's a junkie' has an amazing meaning toit if you really listen to what raine maida is saying and you've read the book(and understood it) you kind of ... Read more

I don't know how else to explain this CD other than it being just one of the best CDs that have come out in recent times. Our Lady Peace is a band that continually strives towards making NEW material and not just relying on tricks of the past to continue their album sales. In the US the first single was Life, which showcases OLP's unique ability to use synth-line backgrounds in harmony with REAL drums and not just someone working on a drum machine. In Canada, most people have heard In Repair as the first single, which also features a great synth background and even church bell-like sounds which make it a great song. The lyrics on Spiritual Machines are also great, and even in the liner that comes with the CD you can see the changes that they went through with the edit marks written on them. Other songs on here are also just as good, from the chilling All My Friends to the soft ballad-style Are You Sad, this CD delivers everytime and won't leave your CD player for a long time! GO BUY IT... Read more

This is one of the BEST cds around (best choice ever for me to buy). Sorry about how you feel, Dummer4Jesus, but I totally disagree with you! OLP's music is so far the most meaningful I've heard on the radio. The lyrics are about raw human emotions, and life's hardships on a day-to-day basis. Not to mention the music is raw and fresh. I find Raine Maida's voice to be very unique and his vocals are so amazing -- he can sing a whole octif higher!! The way he sings is as if he is talking to you on a personal level, espressing his feelings, witch is very rare these days, with all the Britney Spears and BSB's of the world. This album is definetly worth buying, and the kind of music that the kids will find rocking and parents won't complain about.

You'll find yourself singing along to songs like "made to heal" and "right behind you (Mafia)", or just siting back and marveling at the beauty of songs like "the wonderful future" and "if you believe". a good bet for fans of all types of music. The CD is wonderful. Our Lady Peace continues to make great music. I personally like Clumsy the best but this record is a wonderful mix of Raines vocals, interesting guitar and drumming and bassing. Raines lyrics are deep and astounding at a time when music is very shallow and repetative. Buy the CD and go on ourladypeac.com for more information. There is no band like OLP!!

OLPs newest album rocks! I love the amazing sound they put forth on this one! Definately give songs like 'Life', 'Made to Heal', and 'Are You Sad' a listen if you get the opportunity. Raine's lyrics, as usual, give you something to think about every time you listen, and the music is an amazing match. This is a great buy if you don't have it yet!
