One of the better t.v. detective shows of the era. Looks pretty tame nowadays. Five stars for the show when it aired, three stars if viewed today.

I rate 77 Sunset Strip 5 stars, but this review is for a 2-box, 24-disk dvd set advertised as the complete series I recently purchased from thedvdplanet.org. This is the worst example of defective DVDs I have ever seen. The set is so completely screwed up that it is unsalvageable. Out of the total of 24 disks, only ONE disk has no significant problems. One disk will not play or even display a menu at all. There are at least 17 episodes missing. The exact number is not ascertainable, because one of the disks, which probably contains six or more episodes, will not play or even open to the menu. There are 62 episodes that have picture and sound quality so poor that they are unwatchable. The remaining episodes range in quality from fair to poor. None of the episodes have good quality. Don't be a sucker like I was. Don't buy this set from thedvdplanet.org!

UPDATE:  Yes, Randyman, E. Zimbalist, Jr. was in the series.  Many up and coming stars showed up in the series.  Read this article about this ground-breaking series. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/77_Sunset_Strip ORIGINAL COMMENT:  A stylish detective drama. It became popular because of Edd Brynes who played a jive talking parking lot attendant, Kookie, who was always combing his hair. There even was a pop song, Kookie, Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb! Kookie eventually became a partner in the detective firm.

I was only 9 when 77 came on tv. I loved every minute of every show. I'm still an Edd Byrnes admirer

Richard Long, Efrem Zimbalist Jr, and Roger Smith were all major hunks of manhood. Never cared much for Kookie though.

Not bad, very stylized LA cop drama, but well written and competently acted.

All of the shows in this group are great to see again. 77, Hawaiian Eye, Surfside 6 and Bourbon Street. Would be nice to get on DVD or VHS but I can not find other than rip offs of Goodlife channel.

Of all the 50's shows, I think 77 Sunset Strip had the most beautiful men. Efrem Zimbalist, Roger Smith and Richard Long, they were very continental and you don't find that in men today.

I have begun collecting episodes of 77 Sunset Strip. Vendors are not easy to find, and the quality varies greatly. Those of you who want episodes that are of the highest quality, check out www.classicvideollc. Good stuff. I have about 50 episodes now, and enjoy watching them over and over. They're dated, to be sure, but that's the charm of the show: 50's T-birds, narrow neck ties, snub nose .38s, Dino's, and of course, Kookie. Unfortunately, Dino's and the building that posed as 77 Sunset Strip are no longer still standing on the Boulevard as they once were. Both have been razed and made into more modern structures. If you watch enough episodes, you'll be able to detect many of the same sets being used over again with thin disguises. Roger Smith, Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. and Edd Bynes are all still alive and living in the LA area.

Oh, what a show....LA in the late 1950's starring Efrem Zimbalist Jr and Roger Smith as a couple of handsome detectives...Does anyone remember Kooky alias Gerald Lloyd Cookson and his obsessive relationship with his comb? Many of the scenes took place in a club called Dinos with the background music of a cool jazz style swinging trio... You can still enjoy this program on the Goodlife cable tv channel on Tues nights...
