THIS PLACE IS NO PLACE FOR A HUMAN TO LIVE!!! I wouldn't let my worst enemy live in Lakeshore on the hill apts, if that says anything about what we went thru while we lived there. The ppl above us would carry on all times of the night, stomp on the floor, fight, and throwing the girl on the floor. It sounded like it was coming thru our ceiling. We would complain to the mgr, and she wouldn't do anything about it. We called the police, and still wouldn't do anything about it. It was like she didn't care, which I know she didn't b/c she didn't have to live thru it. The lease was not the same for everyone there. Ashley, the property mgr, would let some get by with MANY things, and wouldn't let others get by with nothing. God help you if your vehicle broke down on the property, and she find out about it!! She made sure your car was towed, but let others with expired tags and not moved for a year stay on property and not say anything to them. I KNEW for a fact she knew about it, I t... Read more

We rent a 3BR, 2BA apartment at Marina Pointe which was recently bought by Brookside Properties. Frankly, we sincerely miss our former property managers. Unlike them, this new bunch is really a piece of work! The accountant, Gerry, is quite abrupt when you try to speak with her and never helpful. After paying our rent on time for nearly a year, a notice was posted on our door telling us they would not renew our lease and any day we stayed passed the end of lease day, we would be charged double rent. Turns out they wanted to make our apartment into a model...butt stupid to make one of their prime, easy to rent apts. into a model! Anyway, Karen Caruthers, the new prop. mgr was not available to discuss it for a month. When she came back, she changed her mind and told us we could stay...after we spent money for application fees on other apts. during out frantic search, rescheduled surgery until after the move; in many ways her decision cost us money and gross inconvenience. (Many r... Read more

I've been living here since September 06. We have had several managers since then. When we first moved in, we gave the office a list of things that needed to be fixed. They finally came, after 6 months, and half-a## fixed them. The manager here is just AWFUL!!! We were late on our rent once. When we went in to pay it, and all the extra charges, she was VERY RUDE to us. Every Newsletter that is left on our door has some new changes to the rules. It's as if she is making them up as she goes, and changing them from month to month. One month "Rent will be considered late as of the second of the month." Next month "You must pay rent by the third, or it will be considered late." I live in a townhouse, and have my own back yard. With a privacy fence. One of the new rules is that you cannot drink outside, or have parties. She has put fines on these things. It has gotten to the point where we feel she wants us to come home, shut and lock the door. Make sure all the blinds are clos... Read more

While I have not yet dealt with the actual company based out of TN, I have dealt with the people they hire to run things in VA. I am halfway through my 1 year lease, and in 6 months, this is the 3rd property manager. They are AWFUL!!!! I pay my rent on time every single month, and yet they constantly harass us with information posted on my door. First it took them 3 weeks to order an oven filament so I could cook in my apartment. Once they did that, INCORRECTLY, it blew out half the electric in my apartment. The professional electrician 'fixed' the problem by covering up the burnt area in the wall and duck taping the open area of sheet rock. Needless to say I called the city electric inspector on them and only then was it taken care of per his orders. Next they tried to implement mandatory signatures of some 'new rules' and a 'new water addendum' of which i refused to sign per a reference at the consumer affairs office. Once I advised them i knew my rights, they now need to 'inspe... Read more

Save yourself a lot of grief, and don't even bother to stop by and take a look. You can do way better elsewhere. They give you a great sales pitch, but once you sign the lease, god help you if something should break down, because it could be weeks or even months before the fix it, and that's if they fix it. Right now, a number of us have gotten together and are strongly thinking about going to one of the local T.V. stations and tell them what's going on in the hopes that they will do a story on what's going on here. I'm sure Brookside would love that kind of publicity.

Brookside Properties owns some townhouses Pepperhill in Charleston SC. The staff in that place specially a woman called Denise are awful. Once you signed a lease. It is like you do not exist. You can have bad maintenance problems and they write down your complaints in a small piece of paper and that is the end of your complaints. The maintenance staff damage your personal property and do not report it. They mislead potential tennants with false information before signing a lease contract. It is a nightmare.

Brookside manages commercial property that we currently lease (2.5 years). Upon moving in, we discovered that the roof leaked in a many places. I called Brookside and they dispatched people to investigate. They concluded that the HVAC (our contractual responsibility) leaked. When pointed out that water only came through the ceiling when it rained, they continued to insist that it was my problem. Evidently, I have the only HVAC that leaks only when it rains. More recently we had a plumbing problem. Though obviously too systemic to be our problem, they were unwilling to do anything about it. Generally, they were excedingly unpleasant and incompetent. Simple inquiries can never be answered (by the woman who is our Property Manager). They made excuses, delayed issues, failed to return calls and failed to keep appointments until I gave up with the inquiry. 150 words are up, I could go on at length.
