Underreported 128K in taxes and then has the audacity to seek a position as an elected office of all places the IRS!Why not put the fox in charge of the hen house while we're at it?

If only Thune had knocked off Johnson, and not run against Daschle.
GenghisTheHun 01/09/2006
He did his job and did a good job. His problem was the cacophony of the pressure groups that call themselves the Democratic Party these days. He tried to placate too many of them and eroded his electoral base.

Ol' Tom finally learned the lesson: when you play like one person at home in a red state and then play like a beltway power player in DC, eventually the folks back home catch on.
abichara 07/02/2005
Wasn't a bad Senate leader. He lost re-election primarily because of higher Republican turnout during a Presidential year. That, and he was put in the same category as Ted Kennedy and Co. Not the best group of friends needed to get re-elected, especially in South Dakota.

Should move to France!

Surprising he lasted as long as he did in such a conservative state as South Dakota. Might just drop off the political scene for good.
Chalky Studeba ker 11/22/2004
seems like a good enough guy, but he shoulda known better than to run again........

Daschle may not have been the world's worst Democrat, but he's sure come close. What I find most impressive with Daschle's loss is that now, hopefully, the Democratic Party can come to its senses. That's to say that they need to stop relying on Hollywood and start focusing on gaining ground with the middle class.
Redoedo 11/05/2004
During the Clinton years, Daschle was much more effective as the leader of his party in the Senate. However, he was never really able to establish a visible working relationship with Bush, and Thune exploited that during the campaign as a way of portraying Daschle as out of touch with South Dakota voters, as Bush is very popular in that state. A combination of Thune's political savvy and Daschle's inability to stave off the anti-Bush image ultimately contributed to his demise.

First of all, so far as I can see you are all uninformed and ignorant. And easily mislead and brainwashed. Smells of republican type attitude here. I am from South Dakota and Thune is a sellout. Worthless as can be. Tom has helped RURAL americans VERY MUCH. As well as seniors. The republicans tried to line their own pockets with the medicare reform and the ones that got hurt were the seniors. I understand that urban dwellers think that they are better than the rest of the country, but perhaps then you need to start growing your own food for your pantry shelves and freezers? It is apparent that none of you truly knows and understands any of the issues. You just like to hear yourself yammer with hot air and arrogant attitudes. Thune has his head up Bush's ass so far I think he might suffocate. And the only reason he won was because there was a presidential election and more republicans came out to vote that normally would not have. In addition to the horrible tactics of using the churches and telling the members that they are committing a sin to vote for a democrat because they are pro - life. So stupid. Whoever thinks that pro-life - pro-abortion has completely missed the picture of what the constitution means. I hope you all get what you are so dearly hoping for. A disaster. Another 79 billion for skirmish in Iraq??? 2 TRILLION dollors to change social security so that the irresponsible can file for bankruptcy anyway and then when the big whiners retire we have to support them on welfare???? This administration is such a joke that even Powell and Rice want the hell out. What does that say? By the way, I actually live in the state of SD AND am retired military. Which of you can claim that??? So what gives you the right to pass judgment on a person you have never even met??? Lovely things your churches teach you. I hope that you enjoy your misinformed rah rah session, I will not be back to see it. I prefer to converse with intelligent beings. I had the misfortune of stumbling across this lamer than lame thread and and disgusted and appalled. Please do not move to SD - we have recently discovered that we already have an abundance of morons here.

(Late night TV, June, 2005) Hi everybody, I'm Tom Daschle. If you can remember a time when I was a senator and the Democratic party was not corrupted by special interest groups then you will surely remember all of THESE groups and their number one hits from the 1950s and 1960s, now available in one fabulous package. Stay tuned and for the next half hour my friend John Edwards and I will take you back on a nostalgic trip through time when cars had lots of chrome, the Democratic party was honest, and rock and roll was real music. You'll hear the Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, The Ronettes, The Lettermen, John Kennedy, The Coasters, Dion and the Belmonts, Bobby Darin, and so much more. So let's bring out my friend John Edwards and together we'll look back on a time when we were young and full of ideals, the Democratic party stood for middle America, and great music was the cornerstone of our lives.............

Let's put it this way: I live on Long Island, NY and I began asking people to make sure if they knew anyone in South Dakota to make sure they went to vote for Daschle. Also, I came upon this site about a week ago (different circumstances) and it was down. Was that just a coincidence or did they take it down until after the election?

Whenever I hear the name Tom Daschle, the name Nancy Peloski comes to mind. If I didn't know any better, I would swear they are related. Neither have any class and aren't ashamed to show it! Whenever I hear either one of their voices (on the television) I have a strong urge to run to my gun cabinet and take out my set!

An absolutely wretched politician. He has no intention of ever putting the country before politics. He personifies everything that is wrong woth politics.
truthordare 09/03/2004
When he loses his re-election bid, rumour has it he is being courted to do voice-overs for Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. How in the world did South Dakotans ever put this girlie-man in office? Were the NoDaks bused in to cast more votes?
aggallespie 09/02/2004
Try honesty and true bipartisanship when it is in America's best interests. It might gain back some of the respect Democrats once had. Your leaders are so lacking in leadership, no wonder we switched to Republicans to lead this nation.
gangstassnigga 08/26/2004
I hate republicans AND democrats. This includes Mr. Daschle.

Lacking in conviction and an ineffective leader. Is literally in bed with the airline industry. Only accomplishments of note were convincing the more honest Democrats who were inclined to support impeachment among them Feingold, Byrd, and Hollings not to, and in briefly gaining control of Senate, which he almost instantly squandered by mishandling debate on Iraq war and 02 Senate campaigns. Not as stupid or loathsome as Lott but that's faint praise; seems outclassed by Frist.
DiamondDavid 04/25/2004
Daschle doesn't possess a great deal of principles or core beliefs. He's voted as a liberal for the previous 5 years in the senate, however, now that he's up for reelection, he's scurrying to the right. He's keenly aware that playing the part of a Washington Liberal doesn't play well in South Dakota, but he may have realized it too late, as his opponent, John Thune, will fight a tough race. I thought it was shameful, on the eve of Operation Iraqi Freedom, for Daschle to say that the President was a failure in diplomacy. First off, it's not even true (see Col. Khadaffi/Libya). Second, anybody can criticize the President, after all, it is his right, but show a little bit of class on the eve of sending our troops into battle to remove a thug like Saddam Hussein. It was Hussein who was THE FAILURE of diplomacy by not accounting for his weapons programs. Finally, someone tell Daschle's speechwriter to write some new material. Every one of his speeches starts as I'm deeply disappointed... or I'm deeply saddened.... However, it would be cool if he began his concession speech with those words after he loses his Senate seat in November.
sooyiban 04/13/2004
The only good thing I can say about him is that is hairpiece is somewhat less cheesy than John Kerry's, and very much less cheesy than Dennis Kucinich's.

I am DEEPLY SADDENED by Tom Daschle's grand-standing and political deviseiveness. If George Bush said Daschle had a penis I think ol' Tom would call a press conference to disagree with the President.

BIGBABY 07/01/2003
Senator Dascle has to be one of the most idiotic, stupid, retarded person I know. Its completely ludacris to even think that Dascle is a Democrat. He isn't. He just votes on everything that is against what the Republicans are saying. Stupid idiot, saying he is "deeply saddened by Bush's actions". For a politician to say that, when he himself supported the Clinton strike against Iraq in 1998 is appaling. Lying liberal idiot.

Moosekarloff 06/04/2003
Weak as water, as decisive as a gnat. With "leadership" like this, no wonder the Democratic Party is in Nowheresville these days. This guy, who ostensibly is in support of traditional Democratic values, backpedals every single time the going gets tough, every time public response to his poorly-expressed statements is negative. As a result, he reveals little alligiance to his party's goals, indicates he has the spine of a jellyfish, and presents the impression that the Democrats have lost their way and have been moderated out to the point of being inconsequential. In large part this is true, but this so-called "leader" of the party should be doing everything he can to arrest and turn around that disquieting trend. He should stick to his guns and ignore what the opposition says. He should develop thicker skin. He should figure out a way to gain 6 inches in height, the shrimpy, sawed-off little runt that he is. This twerp is enough to make anyone be ashamed to be a Democrat, and there's little reason to feel that way otherwise.
rich2002 05/29/2003
He should just resign and do everyone a huge favor!
wetsack 05/27/2003
I never could take this lying, liberal, hypocrite seriously. His views are so erratic and inconsistent, that it makes me wonder which country he serves.
1937oneida 05/08/2003
As a South Dakota born individual I am ashamed of Senator Daschle lack of substance and class.

Puff Daschle is a sore in the flesh of America
Saltydog 05/02/2003
The most miserable, two-faced, backstabbing, paper tiger I have ever seen in politics. Daschle is another liberal with no plans for America's future. All he has is criticism for the Republican party, and our President, and none of it is constructive. He only changes his tone with the careful analysis of public opinion.
GHWBushFDRReag an 04/23/2003
I wish Rateitall.com had a rating system that included zero, and negative ratings. I honestly don't think I could rate Daschle low enough. He is a mean-spirited, backstabbing, whiny, puny person. He is great at criticizing every approach the Republican party takes to bettering our great nation. At every corner, and every turn, you can bank on seeing or hearing Daschle commenting on how poor the Republicans overall strategic plans are. But, as usual, the Democrats are only capable of griping, and never, ever offer constructive and sustainable action plans. Daschle and his motley crew disgust me. Had he been President, our Great nation would have already succumbed to multiple terrorist attacks that would make 9/11/01 seem like a picnic. I don't consider Daschle or his party to be patriots; I consider them an impediment and roadblock to achieving this nation's goals and objective. Just another Clinton mindset, and you see what that can do to our nation.
B. McCoy 04/01/2003
You are a traitor to your Country...You are a liar and are causing too much delay in the Senate...I wish the Country as a whole could impeach another State's senator when he or she is damaging the Country...You would be first on my list!!!
DeathRattle 03/24/2003
The words that come to mind when I hear Daschle's name are Hypocrite and Partisan (What a Politician and/or leader should not be). Everything is the conservative/right wingers/republicans' fault. However, anything and everything any democrait/ right winger/ liberal does is right and true. I will not take that crap from any politican/leader no matter what side of the ballad they're on. I have not seen this man prove his worth on any issue. ......I'M STILL WAITING.
houmusician 03/24/2003
what a jerk! Im not too hot on politicians anyway but this guy takes the cake. Even while our troops were 'loadign there guns' to go fight the bad guys this no-load is whining about Bushs' failure to avoid war. If I saw him out in public I might have to throw him around a little. And he is supposed to be a candidate for the presidency in the future. Hey Daschle, some Americans may be confused on the subject of war or not but Id like to think that we will not elect a slimy coward like you! Go somewhere and buy yourself some courage. You just dont sown a President after the fact, it doesn't do anything else but make you seem Un-American. Off to sissy land with you.....
homelesspoet 03/24/2003
Can we say Liberal....if it was up to people like him we all would be sitting over a candle trying to get warm and we would be riding bicycles in order to conserve the enviroment. Which most of the enviromentalist agenda is based on views of a minority of scientists (global warming) mythology i tell you!!!. If you believe this garbage about the ailing enviroment then you probably believe Homer's The Odessey.Thats right! i said it!
JoeSmoe 03/23/2003
An obvious partisan hack who cares more about hurting the Republican party than doing what is best for this country. The people of SD should throw this bum out of office before he does anymore damage to this nation.

He is only interested in a pissing contest with the Republican Party regardless of whether or not his position is good for the constituents he represents.
