I hated this place. We went there for a get together. All the tables were reserved. The only place you could sit was at the 10 or so stools at the bar. I was not opposed to this, but it seems stupid to have every booth/table/floor reserved at a bar. There was a large dance floor in the basement, but it was wall to wall people. You could barely move, and it was super warm. The bartenders are aloof at best. My friend bought 12 shots of their best whisky for his guests. He spilled a little of one of them and the bartender started huffing and puffing and throwing a lot of atitude. The crowd was also a very into themselves. I didn't get a friendly vibe. On the plus side, there are a lot of people.

I've held three private parties here and cannot say enough great things about the management, room and bar staff. After trying many other bars and clubs and getting frustrated with their attitude and rules, Mr. Smith's was a breath of fresh air. Extremely flexible, they did everything they could to ensure a great event. I love it that you can have a nice drink at the bar and head downstairs for dancing if the spirit moves you. Great crowd too....

Incredible waitress, kept the drinks flowing - thank you again. The dance floor and DJ were great too. Everyone was dancing and having fun... very few not enjoying themselves. Only problem was that the place was packed. Shoulder to shoulder virtually everywhere. In addition, the area seemed a little seedy. I wasn't expecting that, but then again I don't live in SF. Overall, a LOT of fun!

I like this bar a lot. The main bar area is sort of small, but there is also a downstairs where you can shake a tail feather. The music is good, the drinks are good, and the bartenders have always been nice. You have to try it once.

I highly recommend this bar to everyone. I've read the negative reviews listed on this site and most of them are so far off the mark. I'm a local who just happens to drop by from time to time to have a drink and enjoy the music and check out the good looking men and I've witness the hustles the staff has to endure. Drunken people are not easy to make happy. I would like to acknowledge the bouncers who handle them selves very professionally in all situations. From the girl who just turned 18 trying to use her older sister's ID; the irate princess who is giving that really good looking door guy a hard time because her friends are not on the guest list to the speech impaired lush who tips the bartenders in quarters. The owner of this bar has done a excellent job in hiring a quality staff. I just want to thank the staff of Mr. Smith's for everything.

We held a party here this past saturday night and I wouldn't have one here again. The rep promised us a space prior to our arrival but when we arrived there was nothing reserved, they screwed up when the guests on the guest list arrived and closed the list prior to the promised time. Our friends couldn't get in.The guys at the door were very rude and unprofessional. They definitely need a new PR Manager.

First of all, a fictional "guestlist" that we signed up for online, never got to the bouncer. So, we had to pay the $10 to get in. Secondly, another time, we got there at 10:45, and they were not letting anyone in - if you get in before 11, no cover. We got in at 11:15, paid $10, found the bar to be relatively empty. Then, that same night, the bartender charged me $185 for three shots and three rail vodka/tonics. When I refused to sign, they still charged my Credit Card anyway!!! Yeah, it may have been just one of those nights, but certainly reason enough never to get my patronage again.

went to an event there, good service, bartenders aim to please, even while taking drink tickets, good attitudes. upstairs is cool, the main floor is also well done with booths, tho not much space or booths to accomodate, the downstairs is a pit, but my own personal break dance heaven where i pop it and lock it. enjoyable, would go back, way better than cloud 9 was.

If you are accustomed to slow and inconsistent service, this place provides welcome relief. You'll be assured a steady supply of strong but tasty drinks which will have you more than willing to make a fool of yourself on not too crowded and marginally well ventilated basement dance floor. The bouncers are funny and informative, treat them right and you'll get a free pass for you and a friend. Good mix of both ladies and gents, all with high energy, a little younger and more fun loving than the typical yuppie draws.

We held a party here and I wouldn't have one here again. The rep was slow in responding to our inquiries after we decided to use the venue; they screwed up on when the guest lists closed (but they did let the guests in until the promised time); and the guy who handled the guest list needs a lesson on PR if he wants customers to come back. The bar in the dance area was extremely understaffed and did not cater to customers fairly. Shots were $7 each, which is pretty expensive for that kind of bar. The good thing is that the place isn't too crowded, has a comfy atmosphere, and caters to crowds who just want to chill or dance. There is a dance area except the music is all over the place. One minute you're listening to hip hop and the next minute you're listening to disco.

The Scene Everyone from fashionistas to club kids comes here to soak up the ultra-luxe vibe. Inside, find exposed brick walls, ornate mirrors and Victorian-inspired furniture. A huge bar dominates the main floor; above it, super-cool disc lights offer eye candy. The brown leather banquette downstairs and loft VIP room, outfitted with a bar, patterned chaise lounges and more luxuriously vintage touches, are reserved for bottle service. In the basement is a cozy dance floor and bar. The Draw The main floor and loft are great for chilling, and with three bars it's easy to imbibe. At first glance the subterranean dance floor might seem cramped, but for those who love dancing but not the pretentious club scene, this is an ideal spot. DJs spin a blend of hip-hop, '80s classics and rock, while attentive bartenders serve up cocktails, brews and bubbly.
