Did you ever see a cop use a turn signal?

What I'd really like to know is why all those expensive SUV's and luxury imports don't come equipped with turn indicators. At least I figure that's the problem because I never see one with them operative.

I'm with numbah on this issue. I always see it as a sign of arrogance...some people think they're above the little civilities that the rest of us are subjected to. It's polite to use your signal, and it often is a safety issue. Put down the cell phone, reign in your sense of self-importance and entitlement, and use your turn signal, you cretinous lout!

To all who have decided that this little device is option, ITS NOT, ITS STANDARD EQUIPMENT SO USE IT SO THE REST OF US HAVE A CLUE WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO NEXT. Nothing worst then some moron hitting the breaks and suddenly making a turn or waiting at an insection and trying to figure whis way zippy wants to go in his new huge SUV that he does not know how to drive.

Fanatical myself about flicking them on before turning - can't be too careful - even when the only driver around, except when people in cars behind mine are determined to kidnap me.

I find people who do this seriously can't drive. Its not rocket science, how difficult is it to use your turn signals?

I'm one of those people who doesn't use a turn signal unless I'm tailgated or if I'm in an intersection. ... Now why would I use my turn signal if I'm headed toward a one-way street?

Never had an issue with this, until moving to texas. I think that all texans are against this for some reason, and it really irks the heck out of me.

Certainly a huge annoyance as well as a genuine safety hazard. Evidently some feel it is wholey unnecessary to follow this simple rule of law, as unfortunately, police rarely ever enforce this with the same degree of consistancy they do other moving violations. Utilizing one's turn signal is not merely a simple curtesy to fellow drivers when changing lanes; on occassion it will make all the difference between a near miss and fatal head-on collision. Furthermore, blinkers are not merely a communication with others vehicles, but to pedestrian and bicyclists as well. As a former bike messenger in the inner-city, this was a constant and crucial issue for my own personal safety, not that certain drivers really cared!

Definately one of my pet peeves as a pedestrian. There is nothing worse than trying to cross a road in London where you get stupid drivers who seem to have forgotten what their signal lights are meant for!

Man, I came so close to having many wrecks caused by idiots who don't use their signal. Friggin Egomaniacs.

If you're on a desolate highway, there isn't much reason for using the turn signal, but in heavy traffic, it sure does facilitate the flow of traffic by ensuring that everyone is clear as to what other drivers are planning on doing. Also it prevents a lot of accidents. People who don't use their turn signals consistently are the types who are rather self-absorbed and likewise believe that they are only ones on the highway. Types like these probably deserve to be flogged in public.

I don't have a problem with people who use their signals selectively, but I find if I don't do it all the time, I won't do it sometimes when I need to. I once saw an accident caused because a man was slowing to turn left on a highway. The person behind hem tried to pass right as he was turning. I think he was at least sent to the hospital. Ohh, well. Should've signaled.

One of the least difficult things about operating a car and yet some dim bulbs just cant seem to master it. The amount of energy expended is so miniscule requiring that the driver use only one finger and the pinky finger at that! It's pretty scary when you think how so many people pop into their car everyday and become so mentally disconnected to the rest of the world that they can't even bother themselves to let other drivers in on what they plan to do. If they have no consideration for others, youd think they might consider it in terms of their own safety and well being.

Here in Tennessee, using turn signals must be taboo or something. Since I am originally from NJ, I use them all the time as a force of habit. People in TN think you have the psychic ability to know when they will suddely turn or switch lanes.

After being behind the driver of a new car who didn't use his signals, we happen to pull into parking spaces next to each other. When we got out of our cars I began admiring his vehicle and told him how nice it looked, how healthy the engine sounded, etc. I could tell he was eating it up so I purposely went on and on, inflating his ego in the process. I ended the conversation by saying What a shame... I thought there was a law or something. He gave me a puzzled look so I said I don't get it. A beautiful car like this, and I know these cars aren't cheap...... you would think that it would come with turn signals. Boy, you learn something new every day. He said nothing so I shook my head in disbelief, told him once again what a nice car he had, then I walked away. I don't know if he changed his driving habits but I'll bet you that he thinks about me every time that he doesn't signal.

Yes, and I've also seen the reverse. I once followed a woman for six or seven miles (no passing allowed) who would turn either her left or right turn signal on every few minutes. After awhile I realized she was using her signals every time the road curved either left or right!
