The film: Plenty of ink has been spilled with regard to Oliver Stone's "JFK." I won't add much to a critical debate of it. I think it is enormously entertaining as a movie, is a valuable exercise in stirring up doubts and passions about a critical period in our history, and is a superb exercise in style - no other film better captures the "through the looking glass" feel that anyone who has researched this topic must feel. I watch this film every other year or so, and I never tire of revisiting the dense, compelling world Stone has created. This or that aspect of the film's thesis may be outdated or inaccurate, but that's not the point. The point is to stir up doubts, and plenty of the material Stone has presented in this drama still succeeds at that. The Blu-Ray: The video transfer is a faithful and restrained HD version of this film. It preserves quite well all of the wildly different film stocks that Stone employs. Black and white material is quite detailed and has a lovely... Read more

Thanks. Yes, it was delivered within the due date. Quality was excellent and I really liked the second disc of the actors' and director's commentary.

Before I watched this film for the first time in 2003, I regarded the JFK assassination as a mere detail of history - a President killed by a gunman out to extinguish the imagined villain of his own personal tormented mind. Boy, was I wrong! Watching JFK opened a whole new window for me and I walked away with more questions than answers on the assassination. You may certainly challenge the conclusions of this movie (or rather Jim Garrison) but you cannot deny the many holes it punches into the official line. In my personal view the circumstantial evidence does suggest conspiracy at a high level bordering on treason. My readings post viewing JFK have led me to believe (like many others) that JFK was martyred because of his refusal to toe the line of the covert empire builders (the military industrial complex or whatchamacallit). The assassination was an inflection point in history and as we look at the subsequent fate of the world it is hard not to ask the question of what might have be... Read more

Great movie. I recommend to anyone with an interest in the JFK assassination. Altbough some of the more abstract conspiracy theories will make you rub your head, there's no doubt that there were alot of mysterious circumstances surrounding his death, not the least of which was the arrest of Oswald and the defense he himself put forth the short time he was in custody. In the end, I think anyone with an interest in history or JFK should take a gander at it.

The transfer looks great and the 5.1 sound is vivid with a nice spectrum. This is one of the most powerful films I've ever seen. Beautifully edited, with a terrific performances (Gary Oldman is so eerie as Oswald, you'd think they had resurrected the lone assassin), this is definitely Oliver Stone's masterpiece in a canon of interesting films. The scope of the film is epic, and although he gives you a hodgepodge of theories, the beauty of this picture is that you, the audience, can walk away with your own theory. But most importantly, Stone's message is that we the people must take a stance and interest in our government and hold those who break the law accountable. We need to question those around us. And above all, we must demand PEACE from our leaders and for the world. When I saw this film in 1991, is was overwhelmed by it's sheer power and unforgettable imagery. Definitely worth the price. And the gorgeous John Williams score has never sounded more majestic and ... Read more

Glorifies the discredited Jim Garrison and his crack-brain theories. I suppose the illiterate morons who watch this drivel consider it to be gospel. The jury on this case was out about one hour. I would assume it took that long to elect a foreman, everyone to use the john, and the smokers to have a break. It probably took the jury 10 seconds to decide on the facts.

Brilliant. Anyone who can't take their Warren Commission blinders off after watching this film just REFUSES to get it.

Nicely filmed and well acted (with the exception of Kevin Costner) but in the end just too silly.

Oliver Stone presents a great case. If there was no conspiracy then why is the evidence set to be released in 25 years? The warren commision is a joke and this movie shows that.

Watching this movie made me extremely paranoid. Could Oliver Stone have been right? I thought he presented a pretty good case.

JFK is one of the most compeling dramas I have ever seen.Oliver stone did an AMAZING job with this film as he does with every other movie he does. Probably the Biggest amount of tallented actors I have ever seen: to name a few Kevin Costern, Tommy Lee Jones, Kevin Bacon, Joe Pesci, Sissy Spacek, Jack Lemmon, John Candy, and Gary Oldman. The movie has so much info and takes you Right in the middle of Jim Garrison's investigation; absolutly enthralling.

This is probably one of the most compelling dramas that I have watched in my lifetime. Everything about the movie seemed to be up to the par: the acting, the script, the dialogue, the directing and the musical score. Critics of this film like to pander on the fact that it is not entirely accurate. Well, no, it is not. But then again, neither was the Warren Report that "concluded" that Oswald acted alone in the assassination, despite the fact that a Congressional Investigation in the late 70s suspected otherwise, stating that John F. Kennedy was probably killed by a conspiracy. Even if you are one of those who believe the findings of the Warren Commission, I would hope that you would recognize this film's greatness. Kevin Costner's final speech to the jury towards the end of the movie was simple, to the point, and one of the best that I have seen (better than Nicholson's in "A Few Good Men".). "JFK" is made up of an all-star cast with Kevin Bacon, Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Joens, Joe Pes... Read more

Oliver Stone needs to read Gerald Posner's book, "Case Closed" - that is, if Mr. Stone can stand to read the truth. (He also needs to learn, as all film makers need to, that actors who aren't from Texas can't hope to imitate the Texas accent - or any other accent, for that matter).

Any one who believes there was a conspiracy should read Posner's "Cose Closed." Anyone with a modicum of critical thinking and common sense who looks at the raw data of the assassination would come to the logical conclusion that Oswald was the line gunman. Anti-Castro Cubans, Pro-Castro Cubans, the Military, the CIA, FBI, Dallas Police, the mob, LBJ, Secret Service ..... yeh they were all involved. Oh what about aliens, I guess Oliver Stone did not have enough time to include them. Remember Occumm's Razor - all things considered equal, the simplist explanation is usually correct. Oswald did it - get over it!!

I finally watched this movie last night, however I saw the original and not the directors cut. I was annoyed trying to watch this film. Someone should tell Stone that 1. Using recognizable actors for virtually every role is a major distraction, and 2. Extreme close-ups of actor's faces in the majority of the scenes are a poor excuse for film photography, and are a very lazy approach to directing in my opinion. When faced with a (somewhat) complicated plot like JFK has, it is imperative that you pay attention to everything spoken by each character. This became difficult for me early on, since I found myself playing "name that actor" every five minutes. Off the top of my head, these are some of the actors appearing in this film: Kevin Costner, Sissy Spacek, Michael Rooker, Jack Lemmon, Walter Mathieu, Newman from Seinfeld, Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, Joe Pesci, Kevin Bacon, John Candy, Gary Oldman, the mother from Good Times (Esther Rolle?), Ed Asner, and Laurie Metcalf, and no... Awesome film. Breathtaking in its conception and execution. The cinematography and editing are of the highest class. Oliver Stone truly deserved to win another Oscar, but was beaten by an inferior film - Silence of the Lambs. Costner has never been better and should feel duly robbed of an Oscar.
