The service was phenomenal, I felt like I never wanted to leave the restaurant. If it wasn't a little pricey I would come by every day. There is so much fantastic food on the menu, make sure you try something new every time you visit. And you wine lovers out there are in for a treat...their wine list is out of this world!

I ordered the sweet potato gnocchi when I went and it was phenomenal! Everything that I ate down to the homemade bread was wonderful-they even make the oil to dip the bread in-house. I also had the cheesecake for dessert with rasberries and a chocolate straw. It was one of the best slices of cheesecake I've ever had.

When I recently visited the Sonoma Grille on Penn Ave, in the Cultural District, I was looking through their menu and noticed they have quite an extensive wine list! I think the server told me they had something like 100+ wines available by the glass and even more by the bottle.. I love trying wines from different vineyards, especially Californian wines, which they carry a wide variety of.

I have had numerous visits to Sonoma Grille and have been pleased every time. Their food is freshly made and delicious, their bartenders are some of the best in the city, and the ambiance is both stylish and comfortable. While it can be a little pricey, quality defines Sonoma. Guests are treated with courtesy and respect, and no request is too demanding. With great service, an exquisite menu, and fantastic drinks, I will continue to frequent this fine establishment. (I'm actually thinking of going this weekend.)

I've been to Sonoma a few times and loved it every time! The atmosphere and lighting makes the place feel warm and comfortable, yet still elegant and chic. The staff are very aware of everyone and makes sure you enjoy your food. Everything from the bread to the appetizer to the entree and the dessert were delicious. Everything came out warm and you can tell that it was made to order. I really like how they have the mixed grill menu so I can mix and match my meal. I had the salmon with black peppercorn sauce and the linguini with salsa nero. I definitely recommend the Linguini!! As for desserts, the peanut butter semifreddo is a must!! I am definitely going to keep going back to Somona and recommend it to everyone!!

I recently dined here with a friend, and we had an awesome meal. I should say dined again, as everytime I am in Pittsburgh, this is the one place I definately visit. Another reviewer stated that it's a dining experience, and it truly is. On my last visit, we were seated quickly by a friendly hostess, James was our server and he was a delight! He added so much to our experience with his descriptions of the menu and specials, and wonderful wine suggestions. We had the chef's tasting and it too was intriguing and delicious. Chef Kris delivered our food and spoke with us about the flavors and nuances of the meal, and after dessert and a port wine, we were ready to slip away into a blissful sleep. The only reason for the lack of a fifth star on my review was a cocky manager with very dark hair. I have seen him on other visits to Sonoma, but this was the first time I had the displeasure of speaking with him. However, don't let this deter you. The food and service more than make up for it.

We like to go here for wine and food...the cheese plate is exceptional. The best list of california chards I've seen. The staff is always very professional. It's good to hang out in downtown pittsburgh

I've never had anything but great service here. I live in downtown Pittsburgh and this is a place I like to frequent. First of all let me explain that the Sonoma is one of the restaurants that offers not just food but a dining "experience"...there are lots of options and various courses and this is NOT where you go at 7pm and expect to be out by 8pm for a show you are attending. Fully expect for this to be a two hour extravaganza of dining pleasure. If you are a group of more than 4? Expect to be even longer. That being said, the service I've had was always great with a staff that really knows their menu. The food is truly wonderful and unique and very nicely prepared and served. The wine list is one of the best in the city. Even the salads are extra-special. The cob salad was amazing. They are a little on the pricey side but in the end it's well worth it. I'd recommend the Sonama to anyone who wants to make and evening out of dining and not just a quick meal before the sho... Read more

Made reservations for 7 for Saturday evening at 6PM. We arrived about 15 minutes early and were seated immediately. We let our waiter know that we had an event at 8PM, and he assured us that he would have out the door in plenty of time. The wine list was extensive-but we just were not in the mood for wine, so we ordered mixed drinks from the bar. Our waiter seemed to be a little upset by this, but the drinks were served in a timely fashion. The waiter explained the menu to us, and our orders were placed by 6:15PM. The salad course came without a probelm, I had the Watermelon Radish salad which was exceptional. Everyone was very satisfied with this course. This was followed a bread plate, which was a little on the skimpy side, but refills were available when we requested them. Time wore on and attempts to flag down our waiter were futile. Our main courses did not arrive until 7:25PM. Although everyone in my group raved about the food (the pork dish was unique and EXCELLENT) w... Read more

Visited Sonoma several times this past year, and absolutely never went away disappointed! They offer a Chef's Dinner (the chef prepares an entree of his chosing-if you like surprises & eat just about anything, this is fun)-you get the REAL DEAL-the Chef, serving your plate at your table, he explains what he's prepare for you and chats a bit! (We ask for Chef Kris) this is a personalized, friendly touch with a feeling of priority, and delight, unlike any other restaurant I've visited! Appealing menu dishes, but also amazing tasty "Chef Specials" weekly-so it's not the boring same-old menu dishes to pick from everytime you visit! Tapas menu choose 3-4 items for a little taste of everything.! Everything is of Satisfiable portions-freshly prepared tasting-always! Desserts are to die for-if you have room for. Wine list is huge, Servers are a bit pushy on high end wine prices, but very helpful with selections. Just tell them what price range your into. If the place is not over-cro... Read more

I've tried this place a few times thinking they may improve, but to no avail. Service was horrendous, portions were meager, food was pricey, and quality was average at best. They have a "bread man" that gives you half a slice and doesn't come back. But enjoy that piece of bread because it's the only good thing they serve.

This restaurant came on the scene with much fanfare but after 2 visits all I can say is what is all the excitement about. The menu is dull, the food mediocre, the service indifferent. I can name 20 restaurants in downtown Pittsburgh that do it better than the Sonoma Grille. Don't waste your time or money.

I don't know why anyone would ever go to this dump. The manager is arrogant and the food is overcooked and bland. The atmosphere looks as if the "wife" decorated instead of putting the money into hiring a professional. I like atmosphere when I go out to eat and I should have stayed home that evening. Very unpleasant experience. This place might work in a city that has no other restaurants in it. YUCKKY!

I've worked DT pittsburgh for nearly 20 years. My coworkers and I are always looking for someplace new , fast and tasty to eat lunch toward the convention center end of town. Of course we decided to try the Sonoma Grill. What a disappointment! Lunch service was SLOW! Food barely hot!!! Wings were gummy. YUK!!! When this was brought to the attention of management, the attitude was just " Oh well, sorry about that. " "Oh well...sorry that this is the first and last time we will patronize your restaurant. See ya!! "

My wife and I recently visited Sonoma Grille to our surprise the atmosphere was in disarray for some reason. Our meals were not tasty but on the other hand my wifes order was salty and comparable to someone accidently spilling a shaker or two. We had brought up our disappoinment to the staff. Again this is where we had to actually defend ourselves which were not accustomed to. So after having a decent coffee our treat dinner for travelers from out of state turned into a terrible evening to say the least. Hopefully managament can help turn this around because I for one will not compliment this restaurant.

Recently I went to the Sonoma Grille with three other people. We were all disappointed. While the food overall was good (not fantastic), it was extremely over priced. The entrees were priced in the twenties (which isn't bad) but, they were the size of small appetizers. I ordered dessert so I wouldn't leave hungry. Don't order the coconut mango dessert; it was disgusting.
