I recently got a suit as a gift for a friends wedding. I'm one of the groomsmen, and the groom had a great idea: "Hey! I should buy groomsmen matching suits for the wedding! It'll be cool and will double as a party favor." So he bought us all identical Tommy suits from Macy's. Very nice of him. The trouble is I'm 6'6" tall. I usually wear 36" length pants. We went to Macy's, tried on suit jackets and found what fitted before my buddy ordered suits for all of us. He ordered the largest suit pants he could find for me. The trouble is that Tommy only makes 34" length When i got the suit the jacket fit right but the pants looked like I had grown out of them in 8th grade. When I brought the suit to a Macy's and tried it on for the tailor and the salesman they just looked at me and sighed. "Call Tommy. Maybe he made some extra-long pants once and has surplus lying around." I called Tommy. Checked his website. Checked Macy's website, checked all kinds of websites. Nothing. I started looking... I am going to list a handful of my favorite Kelly quotes. Take them as you may - you decide whether you want this kind of business relationship... - "I have 65,000 customers, I dont need any more!" - "You're lying. You dont know what you're talking about - I know my materials this shirt is not from this year." - "A hole in the sleeve is not problem." - After 5 weeks - "Mr. 'So &So' you've gained 3.5" on your waist I could not have made 2 separate suit pants wrong." Without going on a complete diatribe about this horrible business/owner here are a few important comments.... Kelly is rude, abrasive, a manipulator and a liar. After 6-years of going to this man to have suits and shirts made he progressively got more and more comfortable. He is 65-yrs old and frankly his head is NOT in the game and only wants to mill people out for the their money. Each visit you are treated like its the first time you walked in there. "Last trade mentality" As it is referred to on Wall St. He doesnt... Read more

I'm am extremely happy the work...suit fit like a glove. Even after a small misunderstanding with my choice of fabric, the problem was remedied professionally. You can really tell the difference in the quality of work performed. I highly recommend. Suits usually ready week before expected promise date. Will be going back soon.

It was my first time that I got a custom made suit from a Tailor. I always went to off-the-rack and got suit but they were not the best fit. Somewhere or the other you will find mistakes in off-the-rack clothings. I wanted to look perfect and after lot of R&D I tried La Rukico Tailors. They gave me the best fitting suits and shirts I have ever bought in my life. The fabric "Loro Piana Super 160" is itself so beautiful and they got more fabrics like Zegna, Dormeuil etc. Working for Market Research I have known people or jealous business in New York write bad reviews against each other. And so is La Rukico Tailors being made victim of : Mr. Kelly and his associates are honest people and will give the best customer service. Their tailors take your measurement and will sure give you best fitting, if theres anything wrong you find they will surely fix it for you. I am a happy customer and will surely come back to get some more suits and shirt made and I do recommend people who are looking... Read more

I went to La Rukico after extensively researching a good Hong Kong Tailor. I checked the Internet, I asked at the Waldorf, etc. I am very hard to fit as I am a bodybuilder and was ecstatic at finding a Tailor who could not only deliver fit, but fashion and price as well! The process was very smooth, many different measurements, photographs, and interviews went into selecting the best suit and shirt combinations. However, upon receiving the suit and shirts, I was astounded to find the material shown me in the store was NOT the same material the suit was constructed from, the workmanship was shoddy (irregular and off-color stitching), and the fit was lousy (2 inches short in the sleeves)! The shirts on the other hand were beautiful! Wonderful fabric and beautifully sewn, as well as fit, however, the selfsame mistake in the length of the sleeves presented itself. I called Mr. Kelly and tried to explain, however, he was EXTREMELY rude and told me I knew not of which I spoke and that I woul... Read more

I chose to do business with this horrid place because of the excellent reviews of this organization. I strongly discourage ANYONE to use this company because of Mr. Kelly's attitude. I raised an issue regarding the armhole of my suit (I specified a high armhole but received a low armhole), and the color of the shirt (I ordered white but I received off-white). Mr. Kelly started getting visually annoyed and even had the audacity to raise his voice at me after I complained. After further investigation of his reviews, nearly every review mentions the name Mr. Kelly multiple times throughout the review. Each review thanks Mr. Kelly as if he is a divine gift to mankind. In addition, nearly every reviewer has only written one review. Generally a person who goes through the effort of writing a positive review of a business has gone through the effort of writing reviews for other businesses as well. I strongly urge you to read through all the reviews, both positive and negative, and I trust you... Read more

I ordered three shirts and got them on-time as promised. The problem was one of the shirts was not the color I ordered (I ordered a beige-yellowish color but got a white one). Overall I sent three emails to Mr. Kelly and got zero replies. I also called three times and finally as per Mr. Kelly suggestion sent the shirt back. The reply from Mr.Kelly (who is quite brush to the point of rudeness) was quite amazing to me. He said: "This is not a white shirt. Come over and I'll show you the real white color". Well, two things I know for sure. One, I'm not a color blind, and two, I never go back to La Rukico Tailors.

The suit and shirts I purchased from La Rukico looked excellent. I had never bought a custom made suit before and Mr. Kelly let me feel comfortable and gave me good advice on my purchase and with how to look. (He also helped me with parking my car at a discount!) Everything was ready on time and when a shirt was done in the wrong fabric, a correct one was given to me at no cost.

I bought two suits, a few shirts and three excellent ties from Mr. Kelly while I was in NY after business school. All fit perfect and his pricing was fair, much less than other tailors I'd found. At the time, I recommended him to a few of my peers, their experiences were similar. After relocating to DC two years ago, I mistakenly tried to find a tailor in this area b/c I didn't want to have my "guy" be in NYC. As my wife (and credit card) can attest, I've struggled to find someone down here that matches Mr. Kelly's product and service. In DC, I've dealt with horrible service, poor materials and bad fit with the so called "custom" tailors I've found. In addition, their pricing doesn't compete with his and, more importantly, those suits/blazers now sit in the back of my closet due to improper fit and/or an overzealous salesman who sold me on cuts that were not to my liking (partially my fault as well). Today, I'm happy to say that I spoke to Mr. Kelly and plan to get fitted for... Read more

Ten years in NYC I've had 4 apartments, 8 cellphones, 3 girlfriends, and 2 jobs but only ONE TRUSTED TAILOR - MR KELLY. It's been a DEEPENING RELATIONSHIP since my first visit back in 1999 starting with one simple suit and evolved to the point where we're doing more advanced things like alternate color stitching, under the collar highlights, peak lapels on single breasted jackets and a fully customized car coat this winter. Sadly I did stray a few times early on and I will forever regret it. Brooks Bros made to measure = garbage, a banker's favorite spot in central HK = disaster, Savile Row was a flirtation given a turnaround time measured in months and prices at 3-4x greater than Kelly's. BUT MR KELLY FORGAVE ME and even fixed my garments from other competitors. I will leave the QUALITY AND FIT ACCOLDAES to other reviews but believe me THIS IS THE BEST DEAL GOING GLOBALLY. Hong Kong locals rip off expats & tourists, that guy on 5th Ave is not as good, Saville Row is absurdly expensiv... Read more

The TAILORS ON SITE are fantastic and end up saving you hoards of cash. I lost weight living abroad and my neighborhood London tailor wanted 57 british pounds to take my suit trousers in whereas on my next trip back to NYC Mr Kelly took care of it no charge. This is always the case tweaking my garments as needed. And like any relationship business the best customers do get taken care of - of course Mr Kelly is more likely to fix my 4 year old shirt instead of the guy who bought 2 shirts 2 years ago and wants it fixed 2 years later. BA and Virgin upgrade their most frequent fliers right? Mr Kelly EDUCATED & HUMBLED me and continues to do so - despite all the knowledge on my first visit I still insisted on a 3 button suit with euro style double vents. That suit fit very well and slims me down but clearly not as well as the 2 button single vent suits I have been doing with Mr Kelly since then. Luckily, with Mr Kelly there is no need to worry about fashion fads because their primary concer... Read more

I have been Mr. Kelly's customer for over 6 years and never ever had issue with any of his products and he has always provided outstanding customer service. Even my father and brothers always buy from him. You get a great quality suit made out of the finest fabrics for a reasonable price. As far as AndreChi is concerned, I do not think he has ever visited La Rukico Tailors, he would know that Mr. Kelly sends a copy your measurements, style desired and fabrics selected via email the day we place an order. You always have a proof of what you have ordered.

I have been to Mr Kelly twice. Once five years for suits and shirts. Since then they were great quality suits that really held up well. It was time to restock and so I recently returned. While I have just picked up my new suits and shirts up and I love the quality of the fabric and elements of detail. I looking forward to wearing them. Regarding service Mr Kelly is friendly. and straight forward. I needed my old suits altered significantly and he gladly did it, I needed on suit mended and he did it, and I needed a tux (not purchased from him) altered in two day and he did it. That is customer service and value add, I am looking for. Custom suits and shirts are worth it in how they make you look and what you get. I will definitely return soon.

I've been a customer of Mr. Kelly/La Rukico over the last year (a little longer). During that time I've made purchases for about 15 custom tailored shirts and 2 suits. First I'll comment on the quality of work. Comparing to off-the-rack, and 3 other tailors I've used, Mr. Kelly's quality of work from Hong Kong is, for the most part, top-notch. Shirts have always been the exact detail seen in the swatches and also constructed of good quality (with the exception of two that had the sleeves worn out quicker than normal. The measurements felt true to my actual build however, now thinking back I would have asked for a few tweaks here and there (smaller cut in the back, room for a watch in one sleeve, etc.). So with that I recommend if you go (to any tailor for that matter), either ask questions or specify EXACTLY what little details you want done. After all you are paying for it. The suits were also constructed as detailed and in good quality. I like how little details were not overlooked ... Read more

I order a custom suit from La Rukico Tailors two weeks after placing an order for s semi custom suit from Brooks Brothers. I picked up my suit and two shirts from La Rukico yesterday and they were perfect. I am still waiting over six weeks for my Brooks Brothers suit which will still need to be altered. La Rukico's service was excellent and their prices are very competitive. I will be buying more products from them. Highly recomended

I've spent years buying suits at Barney's, Brooks Brothers and Neiman Marcus, having them tailored and always being disappointed. I will never do so again. For less money, Mr. Kelly provides finer materials and superior craftsmanship. The suits look and feel better than anything from Hickey Freeman, Purple Label or Armani. There truly is no substitute for a suit hand tailored for your body.

I'll be honest; some of the garments I've ordered have come in incorrectly - but guess what? Mr Kelly stands by every single piece of clothing he sells. I have never had a problem getting an order corrected. I vehemently disagree with the guy who said that the customer is treated like a king until after the purchase. I'd actually argue it's the exact opposite. In fact, when Mr Kelly noticed that I dropped some weight he recommended that I bring in the suits I had made a few years ago and get them taken in - for free! Like I said, the only tailor I'll go to.

They say clothes makes the man , well then Mr.Kelly must be the Hephaestus of cloth and twine, i must say never have i had a more pleasant , customer experience and equal only to the fine work and design of my suit. Mr.Kelly Works with you on each and every layer of picking what works for you, while giving you the ability to find your own feel and style. I've often felt that the lack of customer care and satisfaction is an art lost to the modern day consumer, a personal touch of making the client feel that his/her business isn't as nearly important as their satisfaction. In all reality i read a post here in regard to the 3 year old shirt, well lets be honest that's not being very realistic. What business would redeem a 3 Year old shirt or a 3 year old Anything. But i digress, Mr.Kelly thank you for keeping your are art and Mastering your craft. i look forward to returning i would highly recommend you to anyone.

My history with La Rukico is as follows. I bought two shirts from them about 2 years ago. At the time I received great service, the two owners of the shop I believe are father and son and were very friendly people. Once I got the shirts I noticed that they were of good quality (not extraordinary in anyway but acceptable) but that the neck was far too small. I could not even button the neck, not even close. I am a physician so the time I have to spend trekking back and forth to midtown to get all this fixed is very limited. I basically forgot about it and just wore the shirts occasionally when I didn't need to button the collar. Two years later I decided to give them a second try. I went in and explained to them that I had previously ordered two shirts from them and that the collar was too tight so I wanted to make sure that the collar fit properly this time. In fact I told them to make it an extra half inch bigger for comfort. Three weeks pass and I get an e-mail saying my shir... Read more

One sweaty spring afternoon I walked into La Rukico in an ill-fitting oxxford suit with two bolts of Marinella fabric under my arm. A month and $1,000 later I am the proud owner of two custom suits with my preferred details (working sleeve buttons, ticket pocket) worthy of Naples or Savile Row. These gents are a hoot too. Kelly is as much an expert in cloth as he is in fitting a suit. His relationships with the finest cloth resources in the world ensure a value that no one else delivers in NYC. His shop is centrally located which makes him extremely convenient to visit. La Rukico tailors deliver hand tailoring, pearl buttons, a great fit, and service that is hard to beat. I've had so many shirts and suits made there that I have lost count. I truly believe that I will be a client of his for life. He first made me a suit in 1992. Thanks Kelly!

La Rukico is high class, all the way and I highly recommend them for all of your custom suit needs. My brother's wedding is in March and I am getting married in November. I decided that a custom Tuxedo was the way to go. I spent many hours, over several days comparing prices, styles and service at high end department stores. I was extremely dissatisfied with my customer service experience and all the extra charges that these already overpriced tuxedo retailers would apply to the custom I tux was going to order. After nearly giving up, I was recommended to La Rukico by a close friend. This close friend had purchased a number of custom suits from La Rukico and swore by them. I felt it would be worth my while to see what Mr. Kelly and La Rukico had to offer. Just walking in the door, I was treated with great respect (even before mentioning my friend's name); all of my measurements were taken quickly and efficiently. Mr. Kelly helped me design the tux, pick out what would best ... Read more

I am disappointed with the experience I had at La Rukico. The first fitting went well. The second fitting was a nightmare. The fit was nothing like we discussed with the tailor. I asked for flat fronts, and I was given pleats. I asked for a plain hem and I was given cuffs. I asked for a very little shoulder padding and I was given bulky shoulder pads. I told the owner I was not happy with the multiple mistakes and he insisted I was the one who got the order wrong and not him. He then told me he'd "gladly correct it for a fee". I was told to come back for a third fitting but I think I'll cut my losses. Don't pay in full.

I read the reviews and thought i'd give La Rukico a shot and i have to say, the outcome was fantastic. Turnaround time on the suit was only 3 weeks and the finished product is outstanding - all for $1200. I came to New York in '93 to begin my career at a global financial institution, and during my daily routine of reading the WSJ and NYT, I stumbled upon an article advertising a tailor in the old Lexington Hotel. With much trepidation, I lingered into his shop and found "Mr. Kelly." Not only did he educate me on how to select quality fabric and styling , but he also gave me a stronger appreciation for bespoke tailoring. I have used Mr. Kelly since 1993, even after leaving New York in '95 for Atlanta (and returning back to NY in 2007). He is my only source for suits and shirts! Over the years, I have purchased 20+ suits from him, and I have probably referred over 20 people to him - who undoubtedly have all been satisfied. Paul Stuart, Brioni, and others probably do a fine job - but nothing can match Mr. Kelly's years of experience, and his superb attention to quality and detail.

Mr. Kelly told me that I didn't need to worry that he would deliver a "perrrrfect" custom suit within 4-6 weeks and he did just that! Fits like a glove.. I came in with what I thought was supposed to be a fitting so that he could finish the suit and it was already ready and set to go, as promised "perrrrfect". Having an athletic build requires custom suits and shirts and I have tried the major NYC department stores and the quality and service is always a disappointment...not to mention the cost. Mr. Kelly let me completely upgrade my look at the cost of 2 suits in other places and I now have a suit, a tux, a blazer and 7 shirts that are perfectly done and made to fit me. The first question to ask about any tailor is, "Can you get what you want?" You certainly can, from Mr. Kelly. He knows his business very well, and gives good advice. He has an instinct for what will look good on a customer and what won't, and he'll steer you in the right direction as to color, weight, and styling. He offers a wide selection of the best-quality fabrics at surprisingly reasonable prices. I am very exacting in my tastes, and usually take hours to find just the right fabric, but Mr. Kelly immediately found several fabrics that were perfect for me, so the selection process only took a few minutes. He was eager to accommodate my peculiar styling demands, and he delivered a terrific suit. I'll definitely be back!

My husband has been buying custom suits and shirts from Mr. Kelly for years and we have been beyond satisfied with every order. Mr. Kelly's services are excellent and he is very involved and helpful throughout the process - from helping to choose the best and most fitting materials and colors, to designing the suit or shirt (including all the little details like buttons, string color, hems, etc.), to delivering the most high quality finished products on time, if not early. Every item we have purchased (suits, tuxes, shirts, etc.) has been so well designed and so good looking, we get so many compliments! We trust Mr. Kelly and his team's work so much that we even used him to design six custom suits for our wedding. I am shorter than average height wise, and have difficulty finding clothes (namely suites and shirts) that fit me properly (either too long or too wide). My experiences at Kelly have been nothing less then great, as I finally have clothing that fit. If I have clothing made that do not align with my expectation, the tailors at Kelly's will take care of any issues that I may have. On a side note, they can also test for shatnez (if you are jewish and care for that type of thing).

Finding well-fitting quality dress shirts has been a lifelong challenge. I'm 6'5" with extremely long arms, broad shoulders and a narrow waist. Shirts that are long enough in the sleeves are much too wide, and "slim cut" from the major retailers pull tight across the shoulders. I've hesitated for years to go the custom route, due to the unpredictable nature and finality of the process. I finally took the plunge and went to La Rukiko based on the positive reviews on citysearch, and was blown away by the experience from start to finish. The customer service, professionalism and responsiveness provided by the staff made it one of the top service experiences I've had in NYC. Not to mention the fit of my shirts. For the first time in my life, the sleeves are actually the correct length and fit perfectly in the body. The quality of the shirts is also excellent. I look forward to a long partnership buying custom clothing from La Rukiko.

I purchased a Zegna 2-Button suit side vents. Upon trying it on I knew it was too big. Jacket flares out too much. Doesn't shape the bottom or waist area. I was informed by another tailor at a party that the suit is too big and should be altered. Pants are too long and I instructed Mr. Kelly that I didn't want any break on the pants. The pants arrived with break! . After pointing this out to Mr. Kelly, his reply " It looks great and fits great." But, it does not! Who are you trying to fool? My Canal Prosposta and Hugo Boss suits fit well and better than my "custom" Zegna suit. I shall give Mr. Kelly a call and have the suit altered again. Not happy with fitting at all! I expect a lot better fit shaped to form my body. I didnt want the NBA basketball player baggy suit look! I learned a great deal about custom fit suit shipped from Hong Kong v custom fit shipped and made in the USA.
