My friends recommended Austin vet hospital to me for my sick dog, who was seeing another vet (Banfield) who was bleeding us financially. Every test and procedure in the book was being performed by the other vet office and they still couldn’t help. I saw two vets at austin vet during the time that my dog was ill and every time, I and my doggie were treated with consideration and care. I most appreciated that we were not guilted into performing expensive procedures. My dog eventually left this earth, but we were left with good memories. I highly recommend this office.‎

I had been going to another vet for a long time with my dog who has always had bad ears. I just assumed it was something she was always going to have. This place was open on a recent Saturday (the other place isn't open on saturdays) and her ears were getting stinky again. The front staff was super nice and I got seen by the vet in something like 3 minutes (wow!). What was most impressive is that the vet didn't just give my girl some ear medicine, like the prior vet always had. They took there time and actually went over a bunch of issues like food allergy and swimming, that they thought might be adding to her problems. No one at the "old place" ever even mentioned this to me! I will be going here from now on-

we recently switched to austin vet hospital and couldn't be happier! dr. palvino is very hands-on and detail-oriented. he really takes the time to talk through all possibilities/options with you--we really feel like our pets are getting personalized care and not just a canned diagnosis. this is especially important since we have pets with special needs (including fiv+ cat). the facility is great and the staff is very caring and efficient. we highly recommend austin vet hospital.

My dog Dolly has been a patient of Dr. Palvino's since she was born and he was just starting his career at Westlake Animal Hospital. I was so pleased when he decided to purchase Austin Veterinary Hospital, which is right across the street from my house. He has always been kind and professional. I look forward to many more years of Dolly and I going to see T.J.

The clinic looks amazing and I love the new website. It actually has pertinent information!! Dr. Palvino is an amazing vet. He has caught things in my dogs that other vets have missed on more than one occasion. He never recommends anything that is not needed and will tell me how to do something the most cost effective way, even if it is not with this clinic. I have fostered over 15 rescue dogs in the past 2 years and Dr. Palvino is always giving me free advice and opinions through emails and over the phone. He is very down to earth and my animals adore him - even the ones who have barked and growled at other vets. I have 100% faith in everything he does and says. I have dealt with a lot of vets in my life and Dr. Palvino is by far the best. If you are looking for a vet go see him. You and your pets won't be disappointed.

*** CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP HAS RUINED THIS PLACE! *** When I first started going to Austin Veterinary Hospital, I was extremely impressed by Dr Besch (the former owner) and Dr Schaubert. Both women were - and still are - fabulous vets, and I have nothing but praise for them and the treatment my pets received in their care. I particularly liked Dr Besch, and her direct, "no nonsense" manner, because it was obvious she became a vet because she loved animals, and not for love of a quick buck. Indeed, on one occasion, when one of my cats had a urinary tract infection, she didn't think it was necessary to send her home with antibiotics. This impressed me because far too many vets will try to get you to agree to unnecessary procedures and medications (I'm taking about you, "Austin Vet Care" on North Lamar!). Unfortunately, Dr Besch, who must be approaching retirement age, recently sold her clinic to Dr Thomas Palvino, whom I disliked immediately when I first met him. He has a very smarmy, pat... My dog was attacked at daycare and was treated with love and the best care from everyone at this hospital. The front staff is very nice and helpful, the technicians are great and gentle and the vets are very intelligent and know what they are doing. Thank you for caring for my dog.

My husband has been using Austin Veterinary Hospital for 8 years. I have been abusing the staff and doctors since the summer of 2003. We are currently caring for 47 cats. Dr. Besch is our only diagnostic veterinarian. As far as I am concerned - diagnosis is her specialty. She and her staff understand that as a shelter we often use low cost spay/neuter and vaccination facilities. But when it comes to emergency care or diagnosis issues - we always take our animals to Dr. Besch and her staff. Everyone at the clinic understands that finances are always an issue with rescue groups and alternative methods of treatments are always offered and discussed. Dr. Schaubert and Dr. Besch have gone the extra mile in many cases and never hesitate to call specialists to discuss treatment options in the rare events wherein their expertise does not suffice. We have had 200+ cats through our doors in the last 5 years and most have been to AVH at least once. The staff and doctors recognize our l... Read more

Dr. Besch and Dr. Wagner have been wonderful taking care of my ailing Basset Hound. They are loving, make themselves available, and answer questions with complete and sincere answers. The office staff, particularly Sonnet, are absolute sweethearts.

I've been using Austin Veterinary Hospital for close to 10 years and I dread the day when Dr. Besch decides to retire! They guided us through the panic, the questions and the treatment options for 2 of our dogs who had cancer. They shared our grief over the loss of those beloved family members and then celebrated in the joy when we adopted new pups. They offer choices and explain things in as much detail as the customer wants to hear. Their prices are very reasonable. The staff is very accomodating and friendly. The diagnoses, care and treatment of our animals has always been exemplary. They do not try to sell you unnecessary services/products. They provide full disclosure regarding treatments, risks, prognosis and products. I am a completely satisfied customer and my animals actually like going to the vet.
