I thought it would be better. I did enjoy spending my nights playing Halo with friends and going out to the bars and parties. However, there were annoying people who made noises in the halls at night and while I don't have anything against gays, it was really, REALLY awkward walking in on my friend's gay roommate getting it up the ass. 0_o

Typical as well. I won't forget though. Alot of drunken debauchery took place in good ol Wood and Shaw hall. Boys and Girls come together in a new world without parents to beat their ass for doing what they want to do. College is crazy. In terms of the unexpected for the dorms themselves, it was nothing that I wasn't expecting specific to layout and dimensions.

This was the worst. At my College all incoming freshman had to stay on campus if they were coming from out of town. It would not have been as bad if I had no roommate. It was a horrible dorm. And my room was right beside the Exit door which was an old metal door that slammed shut all day and all night. It made my door sound like someone was coming in my room! Awful awful! it did not help I was late to enroll at the last minute so I had the shittiest dorm and roommate on campus. Hell even one time I came back from class and there was police tape up all over the place and it was a damn crime scene! I could not wait until the next year so I could get off campus apartment!

Did one year in these and both hated and loved it. Mind-opening, as Enkidu has said, but also irritating, in that my floor was full of suburban philistines.

Great learning and personal growth experience but I didn't care much for the dorms. I mean you've got to learn to deal with people who see things differently but, I've always preferred student apartments.

I didn't like them, but living in the dorms was more or less mandatory (you could get exemptions, but it wasn't easy).

when it's what it's supposed to be, it can be the best thing in the world.  we had a co-ed floor where everyone knew everyone and we all hung out in eachother's rooms every night.  I remember my room constantly having a dozen people hanging out every night. and no, i don't mean to drink, smoke, or have sex.  good clean fellowship between believers. it was one of my favorite times of my life.

. . .are for suckers. Res halls get in the way of sex, drugs, drinking. . .oh, and me graduating with honors. I stayed during my freshman year (had to) and ran out faster than (insert clever metaphor here). . .

Where I go to school all freshman not  commuting from home and under 21 have to live on campus. some residence halls where nice, but mine was s*&#. I ended up paying extra just to have a foreign student who was finishing up mid year,so I have the room to myself the next half.I think It could have been much more enjoyable had I decided much earlier where i was going to college at. I didn't even decide until June and by then all the good dorms where at capacity, and I was stuck in the ghetto part of campus where if you didn't go home for the weekend you  would not venture out until monday.

Halls of residence were fun and for anyone that plans on going to college or uni and wants to move out I would absolutely advise them to go to halls in their first year. First off its a great way to meet your fellow students who your going to see for the next three or four years and when you think about it your not going to get an opportunity like it again as most residential streets with a college/uni campus nearby can't stand living near students. At least with halls your all in the same boat.

There was both good and bad aspects. It did teach me tolerance though.

I had a great time here. You associate closely with a lot of people you would never otherwise meet, and it can be mind-opening. A bit of mind-opening wouldn't hurt some of the folks on this website, IMHO.
