There prices are about the same as Publix but the quality of the food is so much worse. The meat they sell looks fermented and old.

The Winn-Dixie near where I live is out of business. While they were in business, they hired a security guard. I'd never seen a grocery store with a security guard before. The Winn-Dixie store in my area was strange.

Oh my god! How low can a grocery chain go? I've been going to the same store for years and the manager still looks at me with a frown and disgust in her eyes...Have a nice day too! I try to go as little as possible...Most of the time, they're out of my favorite items, that kills me, for sure they have way too much of what nobody buys...a squirrel could run a store better than them!

They use to be called Quick Check in the South. All of our Winn-Dixie stores have closed. They could not compete with Kroger and WalMart.

Publix is were shopping is a pleasure. Stay away from Winn-Dixe. Thier customer service is horriable, and there quality control is even worse. Thier deli department really needs to be closed down. The bakery is just as bad. Winn- Dixe is a two minute walk from my house, but I'd rather drive 20 minutes to the nearest Publix.

Winn-Dixie is in bankruptcy reorganization, and it shows in the stores. Personnel are scarce, and most stores have a run-down appearance. W-D competes with Publix on price, but it is typically just marginally cheaper.

I too, am sorry they are having financial problems. Hopefully, they'll pull out of it. I can say for my local store, they still have an outstanding meat dept., and produce dept. Like Albertson's, I don't like the "gimmic cards". They should just charge a fair price on everything.

Once upon a time WD was the store to shop in the Southeast. They lead the pack with clean stores, happy employees and quality of product. Today, however, WD is a struggling grocery chain that is trying to survive. The company is in Chapter 11. They have completely moved out of the Carolinas and half of Georgia and continue to downsize by closing stores throughout the remaining states they serve. Poor management and store(s)cleanliness and companies like Publix have put WD on "death watch". They can bounce back but you will never see them as a large chain again.

It may be improving slightly, but the stores still seem unkept and there's never enough help. No matter what time I go in there, they have at most two registers open. Also, a lot of the cans and bottles I buy there are sticky. I've never worked at Winn-Dixie, and I have no ax to grind, but I just think their stores are dirty. And I've seen bad produce and meat for sale there, too. I hope they can recover, but they don't seem to be on the right path, no matter what their commercials say. Until then, I prefer Publix.

A lot of people are being too harsh on the place just because they are former employees with an ax to grind and some are just children trying to berate a defensless entity on the internet. The real story on Winn-Dixie is that the worlds most over-rated and bloated retailer, Wal-mart, has killed the best chain grocer. Winn-Dixie was too small of a company to hold up against the assualt that Wally-world hit them with. Trust me, they are not the last ones to fall under the pressure. By positioning themselves next to all who oppose, Wally will underprice the compition to run them out of business and they will pay the best employees of the oposition more money to switch sides in the battle. All that is left is a formerly good store with few good employees that can not purchase items in bulk like Wally does so their prices are higher which sends everyone scurrying over to Wally. What happens to great stores when Wally moves in? Look at what's left of Winn-Dixie and you get your answer. What ... Read more

Did this chain not just close most of it's stores? Can't be too good of a place.

Sometimes I go to Winn-Dixie because it's really close to my apartment, but I prefer Publix. I have to use extreme caution when purchasing perishables there, because they seem to have little or no quality control. I see brownish- green meat for sale almost everytime I go there. The store just seems dingy and dirty. I try to only buy canned goods and bathroom supplies there, and if they weren't open later than Publix, I'd probably avoid them all together.

I used to work at Winn-Dixie. Now I work for Publix. WD is a terrible company; they treat their employees like crap and don't take care of their stores. Publix respects their employees and treats them very well. Shop Publix!

I love Winn Dixe products, there products are always fresh and well stocked. I shop walmart sometimes, and seem like every time I buy something from there the products are not fresh at all.

I looove Winn-Dixie. Very friendly employees, great service, and wonderful selection. There's nothing I like then a real family owned buisness, Winn-Dixie is truly the friendly neighborhood market. Winn-Dixie is Florida's # 1 supermarket, and Publix will never take it's place!

I shop here only because it is close to my work. And when I do shop here it is only to get a couple of things. Their prices are too high, and the checkout lines are too long. I prefer to shop at Publix and Wal-Mart.

i would be embarssed if i was the manager of that store. every employee (lehigh acres fl) looks so dirty and i mean DIRTY! from clothing that does not fit, to greasy hair and depressed faces. the whole store needs help. i seriousley would never buy anything from there that i knew was packaged up by an employee. the only time i ever consider going there is when there is no other option. this is very sad to me because i have been in other winn dixie stores (newer ones) and it is a totally different experience

Spoiled food, moldy cheese, 2 cashiers available at all times, mostly incompetent staff, what is left to say? Publix is #1 here in FL!

Dirty stores, spoiled meat and only two registers open, even on holidays. Their "reward card" everyone loves so much, invades your privacy. why not go to a store that offers it's savings to everyone?

winn dixie has turned itself into one of the leading chains since the introduction of the rewards card...the employees are very friendly, the prices are exceptional, and i do not believe that any other supermarket tries to accomodate their customers the way wd does

Winn Dixie used to be good, but each year goes by, they suck more and more. I don't recommend this chain to anyone. And their prices are totally outrageous at every location I have been to. :(

Over-priced and over-rated. When I lived in Kentucky, there was a Kroger and Winn-Dixie right across from one another, and we never had any reason to go to Winn Dixie.

The name has nothing to do with it. Winn Dixie is simply an average store with nothing remarkable about it. I am a native of Florida and for my money Publix is without a doubt the best mass grocer in the state. At one time there were several markets known as Gooding's around the Orlando area. Gooding's would put any supermarket to shame. There have been rumors that Safeway was trying to obtain Publix. This worried me because I remembered Safeway stores in California but earlier this year I was in Virginia and visited one. I was pleasantly surprised and now think the quality transition would be seamless.

This rating applies to the absolute BEST experience at Winn-Dixie. Avoid produce and meats - stick to can goods.
