El Zol 99.1FM 3

I've got nothing against El Zol, but I don't listen to spanish language radio. I definitely miss HFS.

Ola!

No, I am not of Latino birth BUT I am a jazzblues/smooth jazz musician and enjoy ALL kinds of good music.
I agree with Doncella - take some time listen to the music. I have Latino friends and coworkers who are very good people. Musically, Latino music is very complicated both in harmony and rhythm. Just try playing a salsa piano! The rhythms are sometimes in 6/8 time counted in two and sometimes in 5/4 time! The vocals are beautifully laced in romanticism, passion, and raw emotion. The trumpets/brass section arrangements are very complicated.
All in all the station is very good and a change from usual formatting.

I'll rate this a 3, since I don't have hard feelings against the station personally. Yesterday, Infinity Broadcasting pulled their alternative rock station 99.1 HFS from the waves without any warning and replaced it with a latino/hispanic station. Yeah, you could imagine the listener's surprise. WHFS's popularity has been declining over the past years, though it still had a good following; since the early 1990s, the station hosted the HFStival, a three-stage, multi-band, two-day festival that has drawn as many as 90,000 people. I think it's a bad move on the part of Infinity, but I guess it's time to let it go. PS. I'm going to seriously miss the Junkies in the morning. UPDATE: If you miss HFS, go to 105.7. Temporary fix, but it's better than nothing.

Used to be 99.1 WHFS, a legendary alt-rock station. The owners got greedy and went Spanish.

I can't believe that HFS got pulled. One of the few independent music stations left in the country. HFS made playlist selections based on the quality of the music as opposed to record label checks. If anybody's interested, there are now precisely two major progressive music stations in the U.S. to which a label can't buy placement on a play list: KROQ in LA and Live105 in SF. That's it. This number was three until HFS got axed. Bad, bad news for the state of radio in the U.S.
