Smaller than the Glock 22, this is a .40 S&W caliber used by the FBI.

Glock 23 5

The first time I shot one of these at a range, I was really impressed.

Recoil was manageable and allowed me to fire shots on target faster than the Springfield XD (the other .40 I was considering). It is also smaller and more easy to conceal than the XD. This is definitely a plus if, like myself, you don't have a very big frame. I would even go as far as to say that out of all the pistols I looked at, this seemed to strike the perfect balance between concealment and round capacity.

I heard people have had FTF (failure to feed) and FTE (failure to eject) experiences using the Glock 23, but I had no problems after 200 rounds. This may be because the gun was already broken in and I don't limp wrist when I shoot. I will comment further on this when I get to break one in.

I was so impressed by the Glock 23 that I've decided to buy a Gen 4.

Update:
Got the Glock 23 Gen 4 and am pleasantly surprised by it.

The slide and trigger pull are fairly smooth. The ergonomics are also nice. This pistol fits my hand (with its long fingers) like a glove.

I was able to place the rounds where I wanted to place them fairly consistently. I did get 1 failure to feed (out of 120 rounds). The gun is still being broken in though, so that may account for it.

My only gripe is the most common one when it come to Glocks. No external safety mechanism (3 internal ones reliant on the trigger). You chamber a round in it and you'd better be careful when you holster it or you may very well end up shooting yourself in the leg. Any careful or experienced gun owners will be able to avoid this problem. Keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to fire, Einstein.

Overall, I would highly recommend this pistol to anyone who has prior pistol experience. Novices may not like the recoil from the .40 caliber, but they could always get a barrel conversion kit to shoot 9mm rounds out of it.

It's not the prettiest gun out there. In terms of polymer pistols, I prefer the look of the PX4 storm, but I didn't get it to flash it around on Facebook pics to impress my friends. What it lacks in aesthetics, it more than makes up for in reliability and ruggedness. It's definitely a pistol I would want to have on me in the event of a violent self defense encounter.

5/18/11 update:

After putting nearly 1,500 rounds through this baby, I have to say that I'm fully satisfied. The trigger pull feels just right at 5.5 pounds but can be changed by simply replacing the trigger connector.

I can't praise the sights on it enough. Because they're so clear, it's rather easy to quickly draw and line the sights up where they're supposed to be on the target.

During the first 400 rounds or so, I had maybe 3 failures to eject, but that's normal on a new gun that has to be broken in. In the 1,000 rounds or so that I've fired since, I've had no problems whatsoever. I've shot all kinds of ammo through it from different companies ranging from Federal, Lawman, Speer, Winchester (white). Everything from 155 to 180 gr shot perfectly. I do most of my shooting from 7 to 25 yards and it's pretty been dead on with almost all ammo types.

I also really like the fact that it's really easy to disassemble.

This pistol gets a 9.5/10 from me.

Glock 23 5

I used mine to shoot glow sticks out of a tree at 25 feet. If I ever get glasses I'll try farther or smaller targets. Not a bad pistol, and damn near indestructible. I'm a fan of .40s.

I can't hit something the size of a car with my S+W 9mm at 25 feet, so I guess that's why.

Glock 23 5

I shoot the ever lovin' fuck outta mine and it always delivers. Accurate enough and shit hot as far as reliability goes, which is great since I'm tough on equipment.
