I am a graduate of the Medical Billing course and when anyone asks how I liked my school I tell them....."Total waste of my time and money” The school is a complete Joke. My biggest problem with the school is the false hope they sale to the new students. When I first enrolled they told me that I would have “Job Placement” after finishing the program and after just being laid off my previous job that was music to my ears. I have finished my program and am now jobless again but now with a 9 thousand dollar school loan debt. When it came time for my job internship they didn’t even have anywhere for me to go. Literally the last day of class they found me a job site and emphasized that I am a free worker so my job site took advantage of that completely. I spent 160 hours working for free doing more work at my job site then most of the people on payroll and they let me know at the end of my 160 hours, they had no intention from the beginning of hiring me even though I was the best intern th... I am student in this college now, LVN-WE. Please DO NOT put yourself here. all the educator here are lazy and rude, they don't know much about nursing, I've experience clinical in sub-acute at Knott Ave Care center, My Instructor Mrs. M was rude and not professional, she always look for student mistakes and yelled at you in front of nurses and patients until the patient told us "your teacher is a terrible person." And she always favorite some students because they talk same language. The Principal of LVN program is rude too, she always talk nice in front of class by saying come to me if you have problem, but when she has some student complaint about something, she always refuse and always say I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR YOUR PROBLEM!! What kind of educator is that? We are here for study and learn about nursing, but they just want your money and will make you failed, if they see your grade not satisfied them. Please..please.. please consider this school once again, I paid $700 a month for 1... Read more

We have started a blog to collect stories about ACC and other for-profit programs in Southern California that have not delivered anything clost to what was promised when they signed up - leaving the alumni with only debt and no job prospects. Our hope is to inform more people about this problem. If you have a story to tell - post it at friendofthestudent.wordpress.com under the alumni page.

I graduated from American Career College in September of 2009. I have not been able to find a job as a Medical Assistant. The school had not trained me in any medical software. This causes a big problem trying to find a job. When I signed up, I was told they would help us find a job. They printed out my resume for me. That was the extent of their help. They called me after my internship in September, to ask if I found a job. I stated I had not. They informed me they would start helping me look. I did not hear from them again until December of 2009., Again they asked me if I had found a job. I told them I have not. They assured me they would help me look. I have not heard from them since. It is now March. While in school, we changed instructors 4 times. Which made it hard to learn the new instructors teaching methods, along with the materials. I didn't feel I was learning very much. Some days, no instructor would show up. and we would be in the classroom waiting. We would go to the... Read more

I am a student of the LVN program and am so frustrated by this school already! The school is only worried about their own reputation and the ability to recruit more students, not education! If you learn from your mistakes you WILL NOT learn here. After taking a test you will not be able to see your test questions again for fear of future students cheating and in turn a lower percentage of first time pass rate on the state licensing board (this % is used for advertisement). My recommendation: take your $31,500 elsewhere. I wish I could!!!

My class signed a petition to get a teacher removed for failing to generally teach. She taught us things that if we actually did them in a pharmacy setting we could easily lose our job. She taught us the math we need for pharmacy calculations wrong and when asked about the correct way told us to ask a fellow student to explain it. The directors seemed to care at first, they said they had heard the same thing from other people and would work it out. Nothing happened for a month. We were so behind when we transfered to the new teacher. Now, they are giving us her as a teacher again as the new teacher left to teach at a better school. They explained that since only 1/5 (10 out of 50) of her class ever came in to the directors office to complain, she wasn't a bad teacher, even though 20 people signed a petition on top of the 10 who went in person. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE! You might get stuck with Ms. Beauman and never learn what you need to know in the field!

When attending the LVN program I would suggest that your get your CNA certificate after completing the first quarter. Get a full or part time job being a CNA. This way you will have the job experience you need when you graduate. One of the things the LVN program does not tell you is that you need 1 year experience to get a job after you graduate at most places. So how do you get a job without the experience? Also, the school says that they offer Career Services, but don't count on them. I have given so many excuses as to why they can help me it is ridiculous. I have heard that they are moving offices, or their computer crashed, or email is down, or we don't have a scanner to email that to you. They don't keep track of where the supposedly send out the resumes or even know which resume they send out. They had 3 resumes on file for me and could not tell me where they sent my resume. I never received a call from where they supposedly sent my resume. I was never given... Read more

First of all, I've completed the Medical Assisting program here. If you're expecting to find a job with medical assisting going to school here, its not worth it. Most of the people I talked to have gone through an externship and have not started working as a Medical Assistant. However, some of the things you learn may help you become more knowledgeable for your medical career.(i.e. Medical Terminology)Most students want to keep going with their education and move on with careers such as phlebotomy or nursing or pharmacy tech. I'm in the Vocational Nursing program right now at ACC and it is a completely different atmosphere compared to the other programs. So far I believe the instructors are very reasonable. They may be strict but its because they expect you to actually work for your grade. Don't expect to get by by just sitting in class. You have to actually study more than 6 hours a day. It's not an easy program...
