A) The term "Rock and Roll" originates from slang for having sex, the leading lady's of ABBA are certainly doable. B) No band has ever had the range that ABBA had, from the folk of "People Need Love" to the Anti-war of "Soldiers" to the unearthly feel of "Visitors" and just about every genre in between. B) These people were conceived during the final days of World War Two(except Agnetha) with bombs going off all over and Europe in ruins...Now thats rock and roll A) Yup, that spells ABBA

They need more disco in the HOF besides the Bee Gees and this is as good as the genre got. EVERYONE LOVES ABBA! Dont even try to deny it. Their music has stood the test of time more then any other disco act and even most acts from the 70s. Tons of rock bands love them too like U2. They had great vocalists, songwriters and producers in the group too, all making a winning combination. These guys and gals need to be inducted ASAP!
sixtorules 03/13/2009
If Madonna is in then they deserve it. Neither is rock and roll but doesn't seem to matter to Jann Wenner who makes all the decisions.
TeresaG 09/27/2008
DEFINITELY!!! ANy band whos music can spur a musical AND a movie ~ by all means, open the door, and let em in.
ji61m 05/04/2008
You often wonder why some bands make it and some bands don't. ABBA to date, has sold almost 400,000,000 units total, ranking them second only to the beatles. With these credentials alone should at least get them a table! The legion of fans that still follow this band after breaking up almost 30 years ago is phenominal! These fans would surely buy tickets today, as if they were an up and coming band. How mant acts out there were offered up to a billion dollars to reunite for a tour, i don't think any other than ABBA. Please anyone, prove me wrong!
Moose74 05/04/2008
Absolutely. Definitely. I asked my Eight- Ball whether ABBA should be in and the answer came back: "It is decidedly so." Just for confirmation, I asked again, this time specifically querying if the first answer was dependable. "You Can Rely on It." was the second reply. Actually, no such divination is needed. Blondie is in and ABBA is not? I used to think that liking a couple of their songs was just one of those guilty pleasures. But after seeing "Mama Mia" I had to admit that ABBA has a substantial body of work. "Waterloo" is infectious. And there was progression in their work. "The Winner Takes It All" and "The Name of the Game" have more down-to-earth, world-weary views of love and acceptance of its pitfalls than their earlier hits.

ABBA-solutely
Travelerdiogen es 03/30/2008
Okay, I give up. WHAT are they THINKING at the HofF? ABBA not being in is like Batman not being in the comic book hall of fame.
chrismin2003 03/13/2008
R U Kidding? ! ? Maybe the "Disco" HoF ! ! !
kymoman 03/05/2008
Maybe the top-selling act of all time (including the Beatles!).
julienbenney 12/11/2007
Colin Cooper, who used to work with me, once tried to make me listen to them becaus ehe loved them. I was never hooked, and they still sound bad today even if they have had soem revivial in the 1990s. Really should be passed over if possible.
annalouise 08/15/2007
Im shocked their not in there.Everybody knows Abba and knows at least one of their songs.
Polina 05/28/2007
I can't believe they are not already in it and if not, why not? They were the soundtrack of the late 70s/early 80s and made tuneful well sung records that have already become standards in many ways. I can't think of any other group since then with as much talent. Pity they wore fur coats; no one is perfect.
Jamie McBain 04/09/2007
I'm not a big fan, but many are, and their music is still popular to this very day.
For that reason alone, sure why not. It could also be the last chance, that fans will get to see them perform together again, live.
WuzUp 03/20/2007
ABBA will get in, but let's hope after
DEEP PURPLE,
SRV,
Jethro Tull,
Genesis,
Yes,
Moody Blues,
Mary Wells.
ajowoods 02/24/2007
They were the most successful group of the 1970s. If they have any connection to rock, which they do, they deserve to be in.
Limpin' Trenchfoot 11/17/2006
Some of the comments here are extraordinarly narrow minded. Now, let me say first I dont own a single ABBA record. However, after the Beatles, they have shifted more units than any other pop and rock group. More than Floyd or Zep. Their music is ubiquitous and many of their singles have become classics, staples of karaokes and singalongs. I challenge anyone in the Western world not to be able to hum along at least half a dozen Abba tunes. They've spawned musicals and a whole industry of tribute acts. This is a lot more than can be said for Metallica, Iron Maiden etc
FranksWildYear s 11/16/2006
While not particularly Rock and Roll, or groundbreaking in any way, they were an international juggernaut and passable record makers. They are probably appropriate timecapsule representatives of their era.
DebL 10/30/2006
Good grief, Blondie got in, why not ABBA?
marto 05/24/2006
disco doesnt belong in the hall so get out
abacab 01/19/2006
They were once one of the world's most popular groups, and made several catchy pop songs. I am talking, of course, about the Spice Girls.

I don't, i don't, i don't, i don't, I don't, i don't. Woe woe, woe woe.
ElvisC 12/04/2005
Don't like them, but holy cow they ruled all of the world but the US.
liferspreng 11/04/2005
Not in the next 1000 years.
scarletfeather 09/28/2005
Their music is passable pap, but let's leave them in the 70s.
clarermo 09/28/2005
Let's forget any prejudice, just listen to their music and let it flow into your blood. Abba is pure and simple sensual magic.
Djahuti 08/24/2005
This kind of bubblegum crud belongs in the bargain bin gathering dust -NOT in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. True, they sold tons of records and were world famous, but they were NOT a Rock Band. Maybe they should open a Pop hall of fame just to keep sickly sweet pap like this out of Cleveland.
souljunkie 08/24/2005
Oh c'mon now!! Hahahahahaha! ....Hell No!
Solenoid DH 08/20/2005
There are very few groups who have managed to put out more than one hit that I really liked. Abba produced several. I watched them on television once and was impressed by their class and the way they relate to the audience. They projected a good feeling.
yl 08/20/2005
Even if ABBA does not deserve of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, ABBA deserves 5 stars-one of the first class pop groups that produces great tunes.
Mcnick 08/20/2005
abba rocks............Their works still sound fresh and astonishing..its still as good as new..and no one could ever come close to their sound.....amazing albums..too bad they dont got any remixes for their singles.
ABBAFAN 08/19/2005
ABBA are absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Boeing777 08/19/2005
ABBA were and still are the best band ever!!! They are invincible!! I don't think that there are great bands like they were. Neither the beatles were as good as ABBA were.
philzone 08/19/2005
ABBA certainly deserves R&R; Hall of Fame.
voulezvouz06 08/19/2005
ABBA rocks. I love them to death.
sfalconer 08/19/2005
Abba Rock and or Roll, no I just don't see it. Can some one define Rock and Roll for the masses because I don't think every one is grasping the concept.
southerndude 08/19/2005
If you really read their lyrics without listening to their music they are pretty astounding. The music and the voices are top notch whether its your style or not. They were amazing live. If you look at others in the Hall of Fame they are not all rock. If you look at the ideals behind the Hall of Fame they look for musicians that have impacted music. I would think that a strong statement on a group like Abba is they have no copycats and it is incredibly difficult to duplicate them. They wrote their own lyrics, music, played many of their own instruments and virtually revolutionized the video industry. I have really grown to respect them over the last 20 years as I have many groups of many different genres. They truly apart in the world of music.
dayb4ucame 08/19/2005
Love them always have! A guilty pleasure, sure! Many earlier artists from the 50's and early 60's that have made it into the Hall aren't/weren't as influential as ABBA have been to the music world. Most Americans don't know their ABBA's whole body of work and have a tendency of judging them too quickly. I think it's amazing that they were able to cross language/cultural barriers. They were from Sweden, and took it upon themselves to work harder to make it. I'd like to see any American artist around these days, or even back when ABBA were famous, sing in Swedish!
kingguiness 07/14/2005
While some of their songs serve as a personal guilty pleasure of mine there is no way they belong in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame!
irishgit 04/25/2005
I know they don't really sound the same, but ABBA always remind me of Alvin and the Chipmunks. Maybe both groups could go in as a double entry.
SonicDeath10 04/19/2005
Amazing pop song writers. Rock and roll hall of fame? Maybe not. They COULD rock and did on occasion: but they were mostly interested in amazing melodies and arrangements, as opposed to generically rocking.
mtbmlb 04/08/2005
They were just all right in my opinion. Not Hall of Fame calliber.
CanadaSucks 03/27/2005
Clevelanders will burn the place if this happens.
