They moved from Pratt to waters st, and I enjoyed my food. It was done well and at a good price. Can't complain about that.

i went to Velleggia's last night. We waited 45 minutes for our food and it was only two other parties in the restaurant which both consisted of two. When the food came my mother's was burnt and not was what she asked for. Since when did Shrimp Alfredo come with fried shrimp. NEVER! The waiter insisted that "the food is not burnt just a little overcooked." Right! My mother said that she did not want the food and they took it back and brought her the same plate, now with sauteed shrimp which looked a whole lot better. She said that she didn't feel that she should have to pay full price for her meal because she waited over an hour for her food. The waiter agreed but when i came time for the check, no discount. We asked for the manager, in which we were told that he had to take his child home and was not there. Then was told that we could wait for the manager because he was on his way. He never made it and after waiting about a half an hour we finally left. While waiting we were told by ... Read more

The new ownership here is atrocious. The menu is overpriced for the quality of food you receive. They should stay out of business. I could not even talk to my friends because of the music being so loud. We also ended up hearing the same songs 3x over. Our server a middle aged women was smoking more than serving.

Everything we've had at Velleggia's has been good. (Maybe they're trying a little too hard with the new gelato bar and their application as a night club - which hasn't happened yet.) The service is pleasant and cares what you think. Definitely an affordable, nice meal out for family or romance in Little Italy. One of our favorites - hope they stay around!

As I strongly suspected the Coffman clowns (the new owners of Velleggia?s) were going to be out of business soon and now they are. When you use deception to claim something you are not, karma will catch up with you. All these highly rated posts for this restaurant were obvious B.S. and an attempt by the new owners drum up business in a dishonest manner. The old Velleggia?s was very good when the Velleggia family owned it and it?s a shame the name is now soiled. The new owners going out of business is a good thing for Little Italy and a great thing for any unsuspecting patrons. This message is for the Coffman?s for being so dishonest and ripping me off. My middle finger is pointed in your direction.

I have never written a review on any restaurant before but after eating at Velleggias this last Saturday night and reading the signs all over Velleggias that they were voted the best Italian restaurant in Baltimore, I felt compelled to write my first. Velleggias is the worse Italian food I have ever had. My wife could not eat the Alfredo and they would be better off if they put Rago over the Lasagna. Our server was indifferent to us. I also noticed that the other rewiews by frequentdinerli and tmoliere sounds strange .I think the owners are possibly writing there own reviews. Both of the reviewers said the only "cons" were that there was only one location. I do not know if they really ate there Saturday night but thank goodness there is only one Velleggias! Do yourself a favor and stay away!!

Experienced Velleggia's first time at their Taste of Velleggia's that offers several dishes of en tree's, apps and desserts . The seafood was incredible and the pasta lived up to the reputation that we have heard. We now know what they mean when they say you will be lost in the sauce. We have been there many times since but this last time sets Velleggia's as City Search has stated, above the rest. They now have the best Gelato and many other scrumptious desserts. Our experiences are always what we want when we dine out.

I been going to Velleggia's for the last five years since moving to Maryland the service has been great and though there have been a lot of changes they have always maintained the customer satisfaction side of their business we have had corporate affairs there and have never been turned away, even with last minute meetings the food has been nothing but the best I admit that we have used other restaurants and though they were good we have never had the same service as at Velleggia's. I personally go there every chance I get and even some of My co-workers do also. They have great food great music and The best servers than many of the local restaurants. I live near the harbour and have my choice of places to go but most nights I am there. Keep up the good job Terry.

After reading all these reviews, i've come to this conclusion, it's a shame that the only good review was written by the owners themselves. It's obvious that the owners wrote this review, otherwise how would anyone know who was charged what at any point in time. Whoever this 'bob' person was, must have gotten some great deals from what the review said. Seems most are charged outrages prices so that others can get discounts. Doesn't seem fair to me. What happened to the good ole days when a meal there came with salad and bread. Now, you have to pay seperate for everything. As for waiting in line to get in. I can't remember the last time my wife and i waited to get in there. As it is now, we;ve stopped going all together. When the original owners had the restaurant, we had no problem waiting in line. We knew we would be rewarded with great service and a great meal. From what i have read now, it's safer to brown paper bag it and just get a glass of water. That is if that hasn't been tur... Do not go to this place. My family and I decided to eat here because there was a 25 minute wait at Amici's. Little did we know that we would have gotten the food faster there and it would have tasted a whole lot better! When you first enter the restaurant, there is a a corridor that faces an empty room. It smells awful and we should have turned around right there. We were hungry and with the "best of citysearch 2007" sign, we chalked it up to rennovation. After we ordered it took over an hour for us to get our food (1 hour, 15 minutes). After about 45 minutes, we asked what was happening. They said there was only one cook. They could have told us this before and we wouldn't have ordered. With two little kids, it was so unprofessional that they kept us waiting for that long.

We went down to Velleggia,s this last weekend and it was without hands down the worse restaurant experience we ever had. Bad service, food and overpriced. We should have known something was up when we saw on the appetizer listings "Buffalo Wings"Not a real standard in an Italian /Little Italy restaurant. I have to wonder about the reviewer "littlemodernman". Sounds like the new owners are writing there own reviews. When I see the statement " we practically give you everything at half price" one has to wonder. Pad enough reviews and you can get "Best of Baltimore 2007". Give me a break!

I sure do wish I'd read these reviews prior to going. Its hard to believe this restaurant was voted "the best in 2007". I don't know what has happened since then, but the service was just plain awful. It took over a half hour to get soup and salad. I'll give the cream of crab soup 4 stars and my chicken enrico 2. The restaurant week menu offered Tirimasu for dessert, but this was not available the day we went. My coworkers and I wasted our time. I don't think I'll be going back.

A group of us went there from work for lunch during Restaurant Week. Years ago this was THE place to go in Little Italy. Now it is THE place to avoid. You don't need reservations and there is no wait for a table because there are NO OTHERS DINERS THERE during the peak lunch hour. Besides bad service, dirty table cloths, long wait for drinks, appetizers and entrees, we were then held hostage while we waited for our check. If you want to experience BAD dining at its worse, Vellegia's is the place to go.

I gotta say Velleggia's has had their problems and ups & downs..but the bottom line is they have some of the best traditional italian food in the city and their home made pasta is..hands down the best of the best...sure they have problems..don't we all...and when you have good food thats a real problem..when all of the red sox fans roll into town and create a line a round the block..people start complaining..and waiting...but what the hell..good things come to those who wait at Velleggias..best meat sauce in town,,they know pasta and they serve it up proper..so have a drink at the bar and when its time to chow..you will know why that line is there!! . ..p s (in reference to bob's "review"). BoB.we wouldn't mind you hanging out and getting drunk every day..but its the condescending way you treat us after we practically give you everything at 1/2 price-that seems unfair-- Keep coming back..it works when you work it...... At Velleggia's you feel like one of the family! Real Italian food ... Read more

My girlfriend and I were vacationing in the Baltimore area and ate here on 6/30/08. Service was slow, the beer I ordered was served warm, the seafood (shrimp and scallops) were overcooked and rubbery, and the menu is over-priced. We stopped in because they hung a banner proclaiming ?Best of CitySearch 2007?, but I can tell you I?ll never eat there again, and from the looks of others? reviews, this place may be vying for WORST of 2008!

Tarry Coffman is a big LIAR. He is not an honest man. He said he was going to make big changes when he came but all he made was troubles for the restaurant and the employees. I have heard that the he owes hundreds and thousands of money to food companies and BGE that's why the place has been closed for 2 weeks now because they shut down his gas and electric. He keeps lying to his employees also about getting paid and they have not gotten paid for over a month now. That place will never be the same place that the Velleggia's had. The food was good but the owners are worst.

Several months ago I took a party of 6 to dinner during the week. All of the food was acceptable except my veal. It was extremely tough. I mentioned this to our waiter and he sent the owner/manager to see me. He apologized and indicated that he had to purchase his veal from another source. He did not charge me for my dinner. He promised to send me a coupon for a free dinner. That was 3 months ago. Since then, I have sent 2 emails about the free coupon and have had no response. I doubt that I will be returning. There are plenty of better restaurants in the area!!!!!

I went to Vellegias on Mother's Day with 15 people and not one of us enjoyed our meal. The food was cold, the portions were small and the prices were outrageous. We spent $500 and left the restuarant still hungry. Most of us did not eat our food because we just could not bear how awful it was. I am very disappointed and so was my guests. We vowed never to go to Vellegias again.

This place is absoultely terrible, the service is horrendous. Our waitress had no idea what was on the menu and could not answer any questions about the food. Bad service, bad food. Overall, I hate my life now that I've eaten there. Only eat here if you want to be pushed to the edge of suicide. I just translated Vellagio's in my italian/english dictionary: Definiton: Shitbomb run by foreign retards.

Went there on 04/05/07. Asked the hostess if there was service in the bar area, she said there was, so we decided to sit there. There was no one else in the bar area except for a couple sitting at the bar. The bartender took our drinnk order and told us a server would be with us. We sat there without any server coming to take our order. Finally a man (I assume the manager) took our order. We order the nightly special. Which according to the sign out front include salad and pasta. When we confirmed this, he said, "Yeah, I think so". You think the manager would know. After waiting, he finally brings out our salads without any dressing and then disappeared. We had to go to the hostess to request salad dressing and bread. The manager then brought out our entrees. We had to ask for the side of pasta. As dinner progressed, the bar area got more crowded and the service got much worse. We had to wait a very long time for him to come back to request the check. We came in as a party of 7 at around 5pm. There were only 4 other people visible in the resturaunt however, we were asked if we had reservations. They did seat us, but seemed annoyed that we had children with us. The waitress immediately spilled the olive oil dipping sauce all over my place setting when serving the bread and made no apology and no attempt to clean it up. The water glasses and silverware were dirty. Our order was taken promptly however. May I state again that there was only one other table of 4 in the resturaunt at the time our order was taken. About 45 minutes later, our soups finally came out. They were luke-warm at best and very salty (cream of crab soup). About 30-35 minutes later, we still did not have our entrees. By this point, the resturaunt had filled up and all other patrons had already gotten their meals (though we had ordered at least 1/2 hour prior to anyone else). Our waitress was almos non-existant... no filling our water, no explanation as to why we did ... Read more

I don't see how this place still rates 4.5 stars. Look at all the review, there are as many 1 star ratings as 5! Makes you wonder where the discrepancy lies???? This is an awful experience from the time you walk in the door until the time you demand your check early due to the poor service, dirty plates, useless staff, cold and disgusting food, long wait, nasty looks, yucky food, and ridiculous atmosphere. This place is pathetic- a complete and total waste of time and particulary money.

The dining experience we experienced was truly first class. From the warm and professional greeting we received all the way through to the dessert course, the staff was knowledgable and proficient with the wine and menu. Both jeff and lawrence attended to us for the two hour period we were there. They basically coddled us into a surreal and halcyon realm of Italian cuisine. My daughter was struck by their karisma and humor. Excellent experience.

A long time favorite is better than ever! New ownership definitely means changes will be made. In this case it's for the better! The exterior of Velleggia's is beautiful, and the interior is much improved. The owner told us of all the planned improvements. Said they're also working on an organic section to add to their menu, too. Can't wait for that! The eggplant parmesan is a favorite I always order, as is the gnocchi. So far everything my husband and I have had there is good. My kids love the fettucine alfredo. The prices are fantastic compared to some of the other restaurants in Little Italy. Great place to reserve a private party. We did that in Sept. for a birthday and it was a wonderful night for all. The service was fabulous and the food was just what we expected. Out of this world! The chef came to check on us which is always thoughtful. Especially on a busy Saturday night. Check out the basement bar while you're there. It's great! Pool tables, darts, video g... Read more

Ever since Terry Coffman bought the place and promised to put in a bunch of money, I have been curious about the establishment. As it turns out, the new ownership has created exactly what I thought it would- an overpriced mess that has all the atmosphere of a Fuddruckers. This is exactly what I expected from the Coffman family, who lack honesty and wholesomeness themselves. I know a few people who have had bad experiences with them in their real estate business, so why should the restaurant business be any different?

One of my favorite restaurants in downtown. The prices are comparable to any other italian place, but the food is simply OUTSTANDING! Lasagna Verde is incredible! The steaks, pasta...You name it, they will cook it for you just the way you like it! The staff is very friendly and the owner, Mr Coffman is always there, interacting with the customers and making sure everybody is satisfied with their visit. The atmosphere is very cozy, lighting is dim, the background music is relaxing and fits the place really well. The main bar has 2 HD TVs, so you can watch a football game while enjoying your meal. Visit Velleggia's, you will not be disappointed.

I am from Baltimore born & raised and moved to PA 10 years ago. So, when I returned to stay the evening with a group of friends I raved about Velleggia's. First our waiter was dripping in sweat and he could not answer any questions about the menu. There were no specials. He put his thumb in our soup. And brought out the wrong food. The prices went up and the food quality went way down. I would not return and would never reccommended this restaurant to anyone.

Don't fooled by the sign that says "Little Italy's Oldest Family Restaurant". Miss Mary Velleggia was a wonderful cook, but since her passing a dozen years ago, her boys let it decline to the point where they felt they had to sell the business. Shame on them for selling the name with the building. This is not the deligthful neighborhood place that we knew and loved. Now owned by the Mr. Kaufman, it has become the worst example of a tourist trap. Gone are the friendly greetings from the Velleggia family or the many experienced waitress. When we arrived, a young girl came up to us and coldly said "Four?" and that was all the hospitality we got. No goodbye when we left. No more Frank Sinatra, now it's loud rock and roll and big screen TVs. They don't have most of our old favorites and the new menu items are very expensive, like $30 crab cakes. No sausage and peppers, no canelloni, no braciole. The menu has a few things left from the old days at MUCH higher p... Read more

I was raised on Italian food and even though no Italian food is as good as home cooked, Vellegias is the place I'd go for authentic Italian cuisine. Their traditional Italian food is excellent! The Manicotti have excellent ricotta and the gravy is deliocioso! The Antipasta (cold cut platter) is just superb! Their service is very good and their prices are reasonable. And the atmosphere is so Old World Italian. Atsa niza! I'd say Vellegia is Buono Mangia! (Good eats).

My wife and I went to Vellegia's for lunch one day and could not have been more disappointed. The place is very nice, dimly lit, but the food was terrible. I had the lasagna and the sause was just terrible. I don't know how they can mess up spaghetti sause, but if you have Ragu you'd have a better meal. My wife had another pasta dish and she finished half before stopping. I then ordered a capuccino and they didn't have any. They only had coffee and would you believe it was terrible? How can Italian restaurant have bad coffee? Unbelievably bad food, we'd never go there and would not recommend any one else to even try.

Even though the computer was on the fritz, the service here was excellent. The food unique, but not so foreign that it was an adventure. The Fettuccini Alfredo was original with its bits of sweet sausage in it. Other reviewers describe the ambience as being romantic.....it's not.....fake flowers hang from baskets by the bar where there are sports games on. The back room is...old.....great food for a normal night out, but not for Valentine's Day.

Velleggia's is the oldest family owned restaurant in Baltimore's Little Italy. The food is absolutely excellent and prepared fresh to order. It is a nice casually restaurant that welcomes families and romantic diners alike. The food portions can not be beat for the excellent price.
