For a first meal, after six months eating lowest-bidder contract meals in a third world country, my wife and I thought it would be nice to eat in one of Baltimore's award-winning steak restaurants. We picked Ruth's Chris after reading many reviews in local papers, seeing the awards posted in their window, and hearing positive word of mouth. We went on a Friday night around 8 o'clock, without making a reservation, and were seated immediately. There were only two other tables occupied when we arrived, which probably wasn't a good omen. The wine list was fantastic- varied and long- we ordered a bottle of Argentine Malbec, quickly brought out by the waiter. As we ordered our steaks (wife- petite filet, me-porterhouse), the waiter warned us the serving plates would be approximately 500 degrees...ok, we won't touch the plates. While sipping wine and eating the so-so pre-game bread, we noticed the music. Apparently, the composer of the Sesame Street theme song was a friend of either Ruth or C... Read more

In Short This offshoot of a popular New Orleans hangout for politicians features decor of dark woods and comfortable booths, with a separate bar scene. Choice cuts of custom-aged beef arrive in sizzling butter on 500-degree plates. The menu also offers chicken, pork and seafood entrees along with Creole appetizers like shrimp remoulade. Family-style sides include gargantuan onion rings, creamed spinach and various styles of potatoes. Traditional homemade desserts like cheesecake and bread pudding conclude the meal.

My family loves steak houses so I have been to the best steakhouses in Florida, Atlanta, and Baltimore. Honestly I find Ruth's Chris to be the most traditional and bland. The quality of the meat itself is good, but Ruth's Chris simply lacks the inventiveness of other steakhouses such as Capital Grille, Chops, Bones etc. Honestly if you want traditional then go to the Prime Rib because they have better service and quality.

I recently dined at the Ruth's Chris in Baltimore and had an outstanding experience. The staff was very welcoming and went out of their way to make my dinner an event. I had a NY Strip and I can say without reservation that it was the best steak I have every had in Baltimore. I would reccommend this restaruant to anyone.

Currently they are offering a 3 Course Meal on Sunday & Monday's for $35.95. Its a great deal that is running in conjuction with the 15th Anniversary in Baltimore! Check it out!

Overcooked meat because they put them on an over heated plate. That is where the sizzle comes from (and the tiny grease spots on your shirt). The meats have a good flavor but not great. The atmosphere, decor, food presentation and service, are the only reason to go there. Anyone you take there will be impressed and probably won't notice the average and over priced food.

I frequently eat out and the best meal for my money is a Ruth Chris steak. I enjoy both the atomosphere Baltimore and Annapolis locations. Out of the many times I have eaten there I had a poor steak once. When I said something they couldnt do enough to make things right. The filet is the only way to go and don't pass up the coffee and sin cake.

I think RC averaged a 9.3 rating based on its reputation. The restaurant had decent food but for the price we paid for 2, the food should have been spectacular. I thought the ribeye I ordered was good, but now that another reviewer mentioned it, it *was* a bit more fatty than other ribeyes I've had. The side dishes we had, asparagus and mashed potatoes, were not worth $3, let alone $7 each. They just boiled the asparagus, and the mashed potatoes tasted like regular mp. And the atmosphere was incredibly stuffy, too stuffy to be romantic. And something I ate gave me a bad stomach ache. We probably won't come back here again.

I can say I have been to the one in Baltimore and the one in San Juan and I tell you I have not had a bad steak yet and don't think I ever will. I took a friend and he loves steak. His exact words was " he was having a culinary orgasm". The steaks are out of this world. Keep up the great work. I was sorry to hear the Founder passed, but I know she is smiling down because the business is still booming and the steaks are still GREAT.

I went there on my 20th Anniversary. What a let down $175.00 for 2. Tough steak, lousy service but this was at the Annapolis Restaurant.I will only go there again if someone else pays.Go to Lone Star in Belair better steaks and friendlier waitress. The coffee was great that is about it.

The food is acceptable at best, but nothing outrageous. I do not feel that one receives a good value for what is paid. The only way I would ever go back is if someone else is paying!

I am a big fan of Ruth's Chris and have eaten at many thoughout the country. I was very happy to see that there was one in Baltimore when I moved here last year. Unfortunately after giving them about a dozen chances I have yet to have one good steak! The cuts of meat are inferior, tough and fatty.

I understand how the yuppies and old money of the area like style but you pay for it in the entree. Outback, currently second on your list has a Filet that is heavenly and is NOT swimming in a pool of butter. Gross! The flavor of the beef is masked by the butter.

I have visited the Ruth Chris Steakhouse three trimes in downtown Baltimore and on all occassions the meat was EXCESSIVELY fatty and of a very poor cut. I have enjoyed Ruth Chris at other locations and the service has benn excellent. But be warned, unless you like chewing fat and grissle, you want avoid the dowbtown Ruth Chris

Wonderful classic steak house ambience, conviently located to harbor area hotels. The service is excellent as is the food, but while excellent is not the best in town.

Steak was basically very good, but I believe that Outback serves just as tasty a steak as Ruth's Chris does for less money. If it's the rich atmosphere you want (i.e., want to feel rich and pampered), well of course, it has that, but you're paying for it.

The quality can vary from good to below average. Ruth's Chris comes in at a distant second to the Prime Rib.

I judge a restaurant by it's service, food quality, and the ambiance. The Havana Club is usually the reason why I go to this place, because the food and the service sure is not there. They are arrogant in their pricing and short on attentive and quality service. I love big portions of lobster like any one else, but folks at 120.00 for my own (read again my own not the table bill) lobster, all the courses should come to the table in a precise fashion. Prime Rib is far superior in decor, food quality and service. The Havana club does rock if you're into the hispanic scene...it's steamy!

Ruth's Steaks are the absolute greatest. While a bit on the expensive side (a la carte ordering) it is well worth it! Once you've eaten a Ruth's Steakhouse Steak, you will be SPOILED!

Steaks like an old shoe, ala carte veggies at $7 a pop, dinner for two was over a hundred dollars. The steaks were awful, the veggies tasted like plastic, and the service was more akin to McDonalds than a supposedly five star eatery. Don't waste your time or your money, this place just squeaks by on name alone.

atmosphere was elegant but not intimate, too cavernous. steak was excellent BUT not outstanding. We were not impressed with side dishes. service was too friendly to the point of being intrusive. We were with a local TV personality who is well known so this must have been their good behaviour.

The old saying,"You get what you pay for" rings true! The steaks are simply heavenly! This place has become our celebration station. The service is unparalled. Try the porterhouse for two. Try the lobster bisque and lump crabmeat( I have never seen crabmeat so white), the sauce that comes with it is to die for! The apple pie a la mode is spectacular. The players club room does get kind of loud. Ask for Jeremy, he is a dream! I can't wait for my New Year's Eve reservation.

It is amazing that this restaurant is located in the heart of Baltimore. Why you ask? I went to NYC to a 'corporate' ran Ruth's Cris and had the most horrible experience ever! I want to thank the staff and owners of Ruth's Cris/Baltimore for making it one of the finest restaurants where I have ever dined. We are so lucky to have this gem of an establishment at our disposal. Thank You Steve!!!

I grill a pretty mean Rib Eye and Ruths Chris is the only one that beats mine! Always consistent, and a very trained, efficient wait staff. It's the one "chain" restaurant that I am always up for. It is definitely the best steak house of Baltimore.
