I've been coming to Peter Louis Salon for years now and have never had a bad experience. Peter really understands hair care and has help my husband grow much of his hair back. They always treat their customers with the utmost respect. I've come to know the staff very well and can say they always take the time to make me feel at home and satisfied with every service. I enjoyed meeting your new receptionist. Nice addition!

I've never been to Peter Louis Salon but was very excited about the "Girls night out event" he had. The staff was so hospitable . I got an awesome conditioning treatment and blow-out! I have a long bob haircut so it's really hard for a stylist to do something different that I like. The stylist gave me really nice loose curls which gave me a totally new look. I'll definitely go back!

To start with I booked my appointment by phone 2 weeks in advance, this was my first time there ever, I was 20mins early for my appointment and the stylist that was set to do my hair was not even there,as a matter of fact he, ' the owner himself , Peter Louis , was 1hr 30 mins late for our appt. Prior to him arriving ,his assistant Jennifer greeted me after 10mins, spoke to me while she was still on her phone, told me to get ready(?) and walked away into another room,I sat there puzzled until the receptionist showed me to the changing room. I was expecting to have a consultation prior to my straightening service, but since Peter was late, Jennifer said she would start and then he would come and look at my hair. I should have walked out at that moment., but I so needed my hair done , I had taken time off from work so I gave in thinking this will probably help as they would see my natural hair and all my frizz. Problem --- Jennifer annoyingly kept talking of other services I... Read more

This is my 4th straightening service with Meira, I get this done at the beginning of summer, and again, a job well done. My wild curls are tamed, my hair is shiny and healthy looking, and I love, love, love my new cut . As always, great work. I always leave very happy.

After spending $700 on straightening in May, $100 on coloring in June you would think I would have been valued as a customer in August. There is no shortage of salons in NYC which in my mind translates to maintain and appreciate your client base. No receptionist, no offer of a cold drink, an appointment which was erased in the book, a $25 increase in the cost of the coloring and to top it me walking out with eggplant colored hair. It's L'Oreal home looks with Madison Avenue pricing. At least let the facade look Mad Avenue rather than Pitkin Avenue.

Walk into this cozy (code word for cramped) place, where you're made to feel like you're an afterthought. The scene feels like a salon version of Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares BEFORE he knocks sense into the owners. Mr. Louis is the prototypical harried proprietor , who lacks the organizational/management skills to get things done right. His people don't seem to respect him, and the mood is simultaneously nervous and depressing. I was attended to, then ignored, then attended to. It wasn't malicious, actually. There just is no service ethos, which is sort of bad for a service establishment. To be fair, my hair turned out fine. But for the kind of money that this place charges, I can't fathom why they can't get their act together. It leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth, and the feeling that professionalism has been completely abandoned. By the way, the contrast between Peter Louis and a competitor right around the corner couldn't have been more striking. I won't name the plac... Read more

i usually dont write reviews but i read some reviews and felt compled to give my opinion. i have been getting my hair straightened at peter louis salon by peter for the past 3 years i did go somewhere else before that and i my hair never came out as good. my hair is always silky shiny and perfectly straight and my hair is super curly and frizzy. peter and his assisant are always really friendly his assistant talks to me the whole time we chat the staff always talks to me since ive been going there for a while now. but i mainly love the way my hair looks its more important to me then anything else and i love my hair i always get complments. for the straightening and color. Tyler cuts and colors my hair and i love it. they did sell me their products but i like using the peter louis conditioner it smells nice and keeps my hair from drying out. overall i like the service. i recomend other people to go there in fact i take my mother there to get her hair done as well.

Tyler gave me the best haircut I have ever had. I love it!!!! and will go back any time I am in New York. The Salon was relaxing and everyone was so friendly. I wish I could find a place like this in Boston. Thanks for a fabulous experience. Thank you for all the wonderful stories from your trips to china and Brazil. I would recommend Peter Louis to anyone who wants the best haircut of their lives.

I am thrilled with my new hair extensions!!! I never thought I could have such beautiful hair. Corina was so wonderful, she spent so much time with me showing me all the options. She was so sweet and I loved that she delicately removed my old extensions in order not to damage my fragile hair. My extensions have never felt so real, I can barely feel them in my hair and they match perfectly. I have two colors in my hair and she managed to get the extensions to look Exactly like my own hair. I am very pleased. Thank you so much Corina. I will definitely be referring all my friends to you!

I did ! I only read some of these reviews after my consultation. ( In a way, I'm happy I did.I may not have gone to Peter Louis Salon otherwise.) I visited the salon and met with Mira . She was very nice and took the time to explain the TR process (as i know it ) to me .We spoke for probably 20mins, but I wanted to have my hair done by her. On the day of my appointment (it took about 4 1/2 hrs, I have very curly hair), I had no complaints, she had a movie for me to look at , made me very comfortable, and most important to me , she was there from the begining of my service to the end .Mira did have an assistant, but the care of my hair was in her interest the entire service . In the end my hair was what she promised ,straight and shiny , it still feels very healthy, and I love it . In our conversation Mira said "she loves what she does and cares about her work , and I do believe that true." She gave me pointers on taking care of my hair and (a suprise) follow up call a week later .(... Read more

I visited Peter Louis for a Japanese straightening after reading their great reviews. Very bad mistake. Before starting the process, I asked the stylist's assistant what the procedure would entail. She said they could make my hair either very straight or less so, depending on what I wanted, and the price would vary accordingly. She said Peter Louis (who would be my stylist that day) could explain in detail. However, Peter Louis started putting things in my hair (after giving me a weary grunt of a greeting) immediately. I brought up the previous question, and his answer was basically: too late, I've already started the more expensive process. No sort of apology. But fine, I realize that we're in NYC and have to put up with snobbiness in the name of beauty. However, the level of bad customer service at this place was more than daunting. He said at one point, "ew, your hair really smells. did you get a straightening done at a cheap place before?". I mean, are you kidding me? Is this reall... Read more

I have been getting my hair straightened and cut by Peter for the last five years. He has done a phenomenal job each time I have gone to him. For those of you who say that they "love their hair, as a result of the services you received at this salon, but feel that you paid too much", I must say from experience that you are paying for what you get, and that is quality and perfection. Since the 1st time I have had my hair straightened @ Peter Louis, I have moved away from NYC twice, one of these moves I attempted to have my hair straightened at a different place by someone that was "highly recommended". Well, long story short my hair was ruined! I immediately returned to Peter and he helped me nurse my hair back to health, when no one else (even the lady who ruined my hair) had no idea what to do to help my hair look some what decent. I have been living in Scottsdale, AZ for the past three years and I still travel back to NYC to have Peter do my hair. I know that I am not the only... Read more

In 2005 I had Japanese Straightening done from Peter himself. The results far exceeded my expectations, my hair was shiney, healthy and looked phenonmenal. Nobody could believe that my hair was Japanese Straightened and I received compliments constantly. It really lasted 20 months for me. In June of 2008 I returned to the salon to have my hair straightened again, this time by Kino and I had the same successful beautiful results. Yes, it is time consuming, but it is really worth the money. He took his time and put so much care into my hair and I am thrilled AGAIN with the results. They use Liscio products along with some other spray proteins that really make a difference. In between going back for the second time I went to a salon in Long Island in May of 2007 and my hairdresser insisted that she did Japanese Straightening using Liscio, so I let her do it thinking I was going to get the same results I did the first time. That was not the case. I went to a reputable salon in Lon... Read more

I ordered some hair products through this salon but they never arrived! There seemed to be some problem with the shipper - they claimed I had received the products but I never did. This salon was good enough to file a claim but when nothing came of it (shipper claimed it was not their fault) the salon responded to my further e-mails with a sort of a snotty e-mail stating that since the shipper believed I had received the products I must have and that the salon wasn't going to do anything else. So, my overall experience is that I paid money for nothing and the salon was not very friendly in trying to help me sort this missing package situation out.

Wow. I've been going to Peter Louis Salon for five years now and they consistently give great service and make my hair look phenomenal. I wish I could upload a photo! Peter gives meticulous hair cuts like an artist and Kino is like clairvoyant. I trust Kino so much and when I want a change I give him a general direction and it comes out better than I could have imagined. He does amazing highlights and blowouts. He's made me from a brunette to a blond back to a brunette to a redhead after all these years. It's always fabulous and trendy. He did my hair over the weekend and all my friends were saying I always have the "best hair". Well it's thanks to Peter and Kino so I decided to post this review. Also I love the KIss Me Conditioner by Peter Louis Hair Care and I Love You Shampoo by Peter Louis Hair Care. The smell is wonderful and my hair feels silky smooth afterwards. Many friends love their Japanese Straightening too. It always looks shiny, healthy and natural.

Hi Guys, I got my hair straightened at Peter Louis salon (Japanese straightening) and it was not a pleasant experience. The staff were OK, but did not seem interested in doing my hair. Also, I was quoted a price of $650 before I went in, and once I arrived and had the process done, I was asked to fork over $750...a full hundred dollars more! With tip and products (they really push their products- esp. shampoo and conditioner which you can purchases elsewhere or online for a better deal), it came out to well over $900. I was disappointed because I felt like I got robbed. I really think salons should stick to a price quote. There are numerous other salons that do the Japanese straightening just as well. Next time I'll pay them a visit.

Got my hair straightened for the first time and while I love my new hair, I was upset by the experience at the salon. The people doing my hair were nice and did a great job, but I was really upset when it came time to pay. I knew ahead of time that it would cost $650, but when i wasn't sure how much to tip, I asked the receptionist. She told me average tips were 20% for the stylist and 15% for the assistant. A lttle shocked I questioned again and was told that was average. Exhausted from the long day of hair pulling and w/ both stylists standing right next to me I handed over the very large tips, guessing that was right and the stylists were right next to me so I couldn't really argue w/o looking lame. So I left upset and felt like I had just been duped, not only did I turn over $650, but also over $200 in tips to stylists who spent 70% of the time sitting around chatting while the chemicals took effect. After talking to many people I realized I paid way too much and next time I'm goin... Read more

My hair was below my waist and when I walked out of the salon my hair was on my neck line and it looked awsome. Kino did an excellent haircut, I will definetly see him again. I highly recommend Peter Louis Salon and especially Kino. As far as people saying that its a bit expensive well yes, but can you really put a price on looking and feeling beautiful? My new look was worth every penny. As for the staff, they were friendly and they even loved my new look. Fortunately for me it wasn't crowded and I was in and out in an hour. My appointment was for 1330 hours and I walked in at 1320 hours and by 1440 hours I was out the door. No, I did not feel rushed and the end result was excellent.

Meira's the absolute best. I have been to so many high end salons in the city, and I have never left happy. And I've always felt like I needed a bottle of wine to sit in the chair and wonder what tradgedy would happen to my hair next. I feel so comfortable with Meira, and finally trust a hair stylist for the first time. I had a problem with my hair extensions I had done in California, when I first met Meira. And she worked with me for months how to manage hair extensions with my lifestyle. And now not only are they the most beautiful thing ever, they work for me better then expected. She's truely so talented. She is honest, and a hard worker. And worth every penny, her experience is so valueable. And I have never been happier with my hair. It's amazing.

This place is a sham. They charge way to much and do not even do a great job. I am sorry, it is very inappropriate to show up over thirty minutes late to an appointment when you live with in walking distance. The lady who did my hair left me to tend to other customers, did not pay close attention, and my hair still has curls. I am not going to pay such a large amount of money when other places in the city who do much better work and are quicker (by quicker I mean tend to one customer at a time and get them out of there, instead of overbooking yourself). I do not want to hear excuses why someone is doing something to delay my time, such as overbooked (well I am paying money like the next customer so I expect the same treatment, if this salon wants to tend to the exclusive then do it, don't make excuses for poor service). Oh, and if you are sick and cannot tend to my hair, RESCHEDULE, don't waste my time! The service is poor, they have lame excuses, there are over five better salo... Read more

I recently had the Japanese Straightening done by Meira, and I'm very happy both with the service and my new straight hair. I was impressed upon meeting Meira for my consultation , she is a well spoken lady. On the day of my service she was mindful to keep me entertained . I had fun though it took about 5 hours . ( but this job does take a long time as i've read . I think I was lucky with 5 hrs) , and I have to mention that she seems very dedicated to her work. Meira is a great host , she made me feel so welcome as a new client to the salon . She comitted herself to my appointment from start to finish and her assistant was also a pleasant girl. ( I have read the complaints of others, on this site , I'm sure it's not that bad ,as...)... My experience was nothing but great . What I spent was well worth it in service , care and attention . I would Highly Recommend Meira , she is wonderful.

I just got my hair straightened this week, and it's so marvelous that it makes me giddy every time I look at it. It should be noted for people who read this that I'm notoriously fickle with hair salons, and like to try different dance partners for different kinds of treatments. All I can say is that while I loved the straightening, (I got a mini - it left just the right volume), it was the cut that Peter gave me that did it for me. There is nothing I hate more than a sloppy haircut, and I've paid extortionistic prices for them in the past. I'm in the process of growing my hair out, and I can already see that the shape is going to be gorgeous, particularly with the new texture. I will for sure be back in a few months time to get a few layers sliced into it, perhaps get an edgier fringe, and to retouch the straightening if necessary. Now, I'm not saying I'll go back for everything (still fickle, and there are a few other places in the city I'd like to try, especially for coloring - I... Read more

So i have had so many terrible experiances with japenese straightening. I have had it done 5 times prior at different salons and i had so much breakage and i was completly unhappy. I was referred to the peter louis salon by my mothers best friend and i could not be happier with my results. I recieved the best japenese straightening i have ever gotten BY FAR. The atmosphere of the salon was so much fun. I had a blast being able to socialize with the hairstylist while getting the most amazing japense straightening i have ever gotten. Meira even brought me a portable dvd player from her house with different dvds to choose from. In terms of the prices, you pay for the quality. You are going to a New York City salon...and an amazing one at that. These stylist spend a lot of time and do an incredible job. I would recommend this salon to everyone and anyone! Meira does an AMAZING japense straightening!

I have done Japanese straightening three times. The first time with Peter and the other two times with Maria. Peter did a nice job, but Maria did an awesome job. I will be traveling to New York to get my fourth Japanese straightening done in the summer. I miss Ana and Lillian. The current receptionist is very difficult to understand (language barrier). It is very frustrating to call long distance and not know where you are calling because the person cannot speak clearly. Overall, I recommend the salon and will continue to travel to New York to get my hair done as long as Maria is still working there. If you want your hair done right, be patient and prepared to spend at least six hours there. I don?t mind being there that long because Maria makes it fun.

I got my hair done (japanese straightening) about 2 weeks ago and I love it. I feel very fortunate to found this place. I had visited a few other places, and although the people there were nice, I didn't feel like they cared much about my questions or anything else. I know stylists do this straightening stuff all the time, but I don't. And when I come into a salon asking questions, I would like more than 5 word answers. That is exactly what Meira gave me. From the first phone call I made, I got a good feeling. I was told to come right in for a free consultation. She sat me down, asked me questions about my hair, examined it, gave me her thoughts and didn't pressure me in making a decision. But I did, then and there, and 5 days later I had it done. It took 9 hours, longer than expected, but Id spend 12 hours doing this if I knew it meant piece of mind. Meira explained EVERYTHING. Not only was she thorough, but she was meticulous and took her time. She is very knowledgeable and seems lik... Read more

Best relaxer I've received in a long time! It's been almost two months and it is time for a retouch. I've been using Phytospecific for years and have always enjoyed the results. The stylist was on time, and like I said, did an excellent job on my hair. The services I received included the relaxer, neutralizing shampoo, conditioner, and blow-dry--no style. I was not a regular client--it was my first visit, so the ensuing events became quite overwhelming... The reason I called my experience "almost perfect" was because of what I believed to be the vague price list for services. I called before I went and asked about the pricing and was totally disappointed in the end. I was even more disappointed to get my bill on a slip of paper without any details. I am the type of person who will pay anything to have my hair done correctly--and I have. BUT I have to know the costs up-front in detail--all of them. I don't believe it's appropriate to pull prices from the top of one's head--b... Read more

I have the most frizziest and finest hair and wanted to have smooth and sleek straight hair. I was referred to Peter Louis Salon from one of my friends who's got the most gorgeous hair after her stylist, Kino, has done an amazing job on her. So I made an appt with him and gave it a try. I was very skeptical about the service, especially with these blonde, sunburn highlights. So I asked Kino whether it would be a good idea to get this chemical done. After carefully examined my hair, he assured me that my hair was not damaged and was workable. He told me he was one of the first few hairstylist who does Thermal Straightening back in the days when it was first introduced to the State. From the result I was on my friend, and with what he said, I felt more relieved. Was such a long process but the outcome was a total shock. When I saw myself in the mirror, I just couldn't believe my eyes and my hands. This was my first time at the Peter Louis Salon. I was greeted in this hair spa by a great staff who were waiting to take care of my at the exact time of my appointment. (No waiting) I had a consultation with Meira who proceeded to rate my hair for strength, tightness of curl and length. Meira, who specializes in Japanese hair straightening, calmed my fears about hair breakage and further damage to my already dry, frizzy and extremely curly hair. At that point I was given, what I thought was a good price and off I went to have my hair done. My hair was conditioned, processed and conditioned again to protect my hair at all times. After the final conditioning my hair was ironed. (Does not hurt but takes a long time if you have a lot of hair) Trust me now. I no longer have dry, frizzy, poofy hair. I can go out in the rain or snow and have my hair air dry to the beautiful, straight and sleek look I had when I left the salon. Meira is a genius, not only did they deserve the price cha... The staff is extremely friendly, and Peter really takes his time with his clients to assess their needs and give them a wonderful result. I found this salon on the web and through this service , so I hope this posting will help anyone in my situation or otherwise... I had a really bad haircut at a local salon in my town , my hair was cut from shoulder length up to my ear . It was too short to be styled and just wasn't me . I had a consultation with Mira , and though I had a lot of questions ( I think I was a bit difficult ), she was very patient and informative. On the day of my service it took some time, but I was comfortable . It's a lovely salon , not uptight like some . Mira was great company and a wonderful stylist. She did an amazing job, considering what she had to work with :) Now I have my hair again ! long beautiful hair..,Peter did a great job with my hair cut ...and my hair is still long . The best part is , it looks absolutely natural .!!! No one's been able to tell the difference......THANK YOU Mira and Peter ... for your expertise and attentiveness., And for getting me ready for the holidays

When I moved out of NY State and let a stylist in Denver straighten my hair the result was disastrous. I flew back to NY, Peter assessed the damage and gave me a great touch-up 6 months later. My hair is finally looking somewhat normal again. I no longer recommend Thermal Reconditioning and warn people not to get it done at all unless they go to Peter because in the wrong hands hair breaks off. I am former beauty writer who knows competence when she sees it. Peter is an amazing skilled professional and I regret trusting anyone else.

Thsi was more like a beauticians training school. Had a terrible cut and terrible experiance. The place was understaffed, and I was very surprised. I heard of the salon a while ago and it had a good reputation, but I had a very bad one. Peter did not listen to whow I wanted it cut and scoffed at my request, but when your in the chair, your at the mercy. I am sorry I went. The barbers at the LIRR do a superior job. Save your money. Definitly not worth it. Like I said, I am glad my hair grows back!

I find myself in New York often, to visit museums and friends . Now I've found Meira at the Peter Louis salon. Finally someone that understands my hair . I'm always in the garden , so between the sun damage and coloring my difficult grays , I'm a mess. Correction , I was a mess. I found the salon on line and visited Meira in December. She recommended a lazartigue hair and scalp treatment which she did . The scalp massage was wonderful, and there was a healthy shine to my hair.I also needed a hair cut, and she again did a great job. Meira even gave me tips on styling my hair and taking care of it. Now that I've worn it awhile my haircut still looks beautiful... styled or left natural. Thank You for doing a wonderful job on this country girl.I'm looking forward to my next visit.!

I've been going to Peter for the past 3 years and have never been happier with my hair. After the first time he performed his magical thermal reconditioning treatment, I had picture perfect hair every day with minimal styling time! My hair is silky smooth straight and requires little blow drying time. It's healthier than before even though I also color it. The best part is if I want to wear loose curls for a night out - it holds perfectly. I went to a lot of the top name salons before choosing Peter. He was the only one who spent a good deal of time carefully examing my hair before proceeding with the treatment. On top of it, the service is excellent. The staff is very attentive and makes the 6 hour process entertaining. I would recommend Peter to anyone looking for low maintenance, versatile, and healthy shiny locks!

I woke up this morning and realized I was in need of a serious Haircut. So I began to walk the streets looking for a salon that was open. I stepped into the Peter Louis salon, the only salon that was open around here on Sunday. I was introduced to Tyler and he gave me a great scalp massage and a nice haircut. It was a fun! Thanks Tyler

I recently got a haircut at Peter Louis Salon. The staff is certainly skilled, and I was happy with my cut. I would not recommend this salon because of the attitude and the price. When I asked for the back to be a bit shorter, i was surprised to get a nasty There are plenty of high priced salons in NYC that don't have the attitude that this one does. I read other reviews that it was "unpretenious", but i would completely disagree. There was a strong air of pretention exuded by staff and clients. i was not given as much attention as some othere more "regular" clients. If you want a highly skilled, expensive haircut, try another NYC salon. I would skip this one.

I had my hair straighted in 2004 by a wonderful person no longer there so Peter worked on me this time. Unfortunately for me a regular client got more of his attention. Peter left me unattended several times to cater to his regular client. Having been thru the process, i knew you had to wait 48 hours before washing. when i did, the edges all around my face were still wavy, the hair underneath had a huge wave and at least an inch of hair was not straightened. i was extremely disappointed. i may not be one of the rich wives that go to this salon on a daily basis, but i paid just as much and i gave a very decent tip to Peter, his helper and shampoo person. i don't doubt he's quite talented, however, i should have been treated the same as his regular clients.
