El Coyote After Dark

I was disappointed by the tastelessness of the food, like eating a rubber shoe. the margaritas were watered down and not very strong. I'm sure that there are better places to eat than this in LA.

I was very sick after I ate here. The tacos were cold and the tortilla chips were stale. I saw the waitress take salsa off of a table after the ppl had already left and place it on somebody else's table for consumption. Can they do that? I'm sorry that I ate here. I had diarrhea for the rest of the night. The margaritas were very acidic and didn't help my stomach and I was very hungover the next day. I will NEVER eat here again. The restroom was also very dirty.

Always filled with a busy and lively crowd, El Coyote provides kitch Mexican food at its best. The decor is campy and festive, with prompt and attentive service by waitresses dressed in Mexican garb. The food, which includes the usual tacos, burritos and enchiladas, isn't the actual draw to this L.A. staple, but it's their famous, and STRONG, margaritas. I have been going here for 22 years. The perfect atmosphere with the perfect "stick to your ribs" Mexican food. The service is amazing here and many have been working here much longer than I have been going. Have a designated driver if you have more than two of their margaritas! I always take out of town guests for the perfect melting pot experience that is Hollywood.

Stick to the basics, crunchy chicken tacos, margaritas, carnitas. Occasionally the tostada works too.

Everything was just delicious. The margaritas, the comfortable atmosphere. This is a perfect place for friends and family to get together for some great authentic Mexican food.

No "AGENDA" here, just good solid Mexican food and Margaritas. Plan on taking the office here for the food. Wait staff is excellent, courteous, and well mannered. All other bad comments about this restaurant are agenda driven, this place is just down right good. We'll be back! If you don't belive it, try it yourself and you will see that they are being casticized by others for no reason. Good food. Thanks for the hospitality!!!

Margaritas are small and weak. Food looks and tastes like plastic. Wait staff seems dirty. Prices expensive compared to what's offered. We're not going back.

This a very nice place that we visit several times a year. The Chiles Rellenos are SUPERB! Recently, I tried the highly-publicized Mexican Pizza for the first time, and it was a real surprise - flavorful and fun. The staff is warm and welcoming, and work hard at not making me feel rushed - I appreciate this very much. The Cafe is a lot cleaner than many places that I would put in the same category, and this I REALLY appreciate. I think you'll enjoy a visit there - give it a couple of tries and see if you agree.

For decades, beginning with an uncle, our family has patronized El Coyote without disappointment. When our now grown children are in town visiting, a must do is always a return to this favorite spot. We have celebrated many happy occasions in this informal and friendly atmosphere. While we each have our standard favorites, my husband adores the beef enchaladas and uses them as his benchmark when sampling others. Nothing quite compares in his book. Through the years my personal favorite is the puffy Spanish omlette filled with quality sharp cheddar - its a treat that I have not found anywhere else. We live a good hour away and still get 'our fix' many times a year.

never again will my money go to this restaurant and I hope others will follow our lead. please do not go to this establishment again. The food is not very good anyway unless you have had too many cocktails.

After patronizing El Coyote for almost 22 years now, my last meal was the day before Halloween, due to their policies (and I'm straight) I unfortunately will not be dining there anymore. That being said, the margaritas are very good, but ask for a "scratch" or you will get a drink scooped out of a giant (yet cleaned) trash bin behind the bar. The food has much improved over the last ten years, especially the hard shell tacos. The beans are also very good. Adios El Coyote, hello El Compandre, you'll be missed...

Great food and great service! Some of the best Mexican food I've had in LA!! For some reason there were a lot of angry people outside because someone here gave $100 to the proposition 8 campaign. I don't know, but it seems awfully "intolerant" to me.

Owners are hateful and don't like all people...they'll take you'll money only to use it against you. well guess what? not anymore.

The food is not very good which I could over look for a good margarita to bad I couldn't get one. What I did get was nasty and actually a little expensive.

Mdstyh1, I was shocked at you review. This is not the place for political views. It is scary to see the Prop 8 bashers use these tactics. Similar to the boycott of the Germans against the in the 1930s. Gayys seem to be demanding respect and rights, but not affording either to those that disagree with them.

I made itt a point to visit a resturant that may have it harder to survive inthis recession. The food was surprisingly good and the service was friendly and attentive. The tolerent love filled no on hate supporterwere too cowardly to look me in the eye. I guess their hate for anyone not like thme clouded their sight. Please support, visit and enjoy the food.

I love the restaurant for its margaritas and ambiance, but the protesters gave me pause the other night. My family and I voted no on prop 8 and I was unaware the restaurant had owners, or family members of owners, supporting yes on prop 8. So, my wife and I went somewhere else. We love this country and respect the democratic process. But, we also respect the right to free speech. Yes on 8 people had the right to vote and no on 8 people have the right to speak publicly. While our $100 dinner tab probably won't be missed much, my wife and I felt good for taking a moral stand and not patronizing a business like El Coyote.

I haven't actually eaten here yet, but since they do support Prop 8 I will take my family here for an enjoyable meal. I'm sure the tamales are delicious.

In light of the disgusting no on 8 hate mongers, you can bet your bottom dollar that I will patronize your business whenever I am in the Los Angeles area. I will be sure and inform my friends to do the same! How dare anyone boycott any place because of their political agenda!! This is a democracy not a communist state!!

I will go out of my way to eat at this restaurant now and I will tell all my friends to go. How dare those opposing prop 8 to even think of picketing. First, I've never even eaten at this establishment before, but now that I hear it is being "boycotted" I will make a special point to go and gladly spend some money there. After everything I heard about this restaurant, I decided to check this place out for myself. I will say I was dissapointed. Surely, the place is nice. But the food wasn't what I expected. The beans seamed like they had been cooked the previous day and were just reheated. Rice was ok. The carne asada taco was just ruff. I will say the margarita was good as well as the chips and salsa. I would go back for happy hr drinks and chips but that's pretty much it. I also saw my friend's plate and that just didnt look tempting to me. Sorry. Just wasn't happy with it. Rather go to Acapulco.

What a shame that an institution as this restaurant claims to be serves such un-appetizing food. With all the good Mexican restaurants in LA I would avoid going to EL COYOTE!!!

I did frequent this restaurant, and it even says in the description "gay dates fill the room", but I just don't see how you could exploit gay people for their $$ then use it against them to take away their rights. Bad judgement call, and you did lose at least one customer from that call, me!

DON'T LISTEN TO THE CRAZIES! My family has been going here for YEARS and we LOVE the food, atmosphere and fun. We would never stop eating there b/c of the owner's personal beliefs.

This misguided attempt at "Mexican Food" was always a poor bet, but was fun and kitschy. Now, it's hard to feel the fun, knowing that it is one of the businesses that felt it needed to use profits to support Prop 8. Since fun was the only reason to go - don't go, it won't be fun.

I never liked the overpriced, banal food there anyway... but the owner also contribute to the Yes on H8te campaign. No matter what your religious and personal views on marriage, it is NEVER ok to discriminate, humiliate and devalue HUMAN BEINGS!!! BOYCOTT!!! Do not put any of your hard earned money into the person's hands (especially b/c this food is NOT worth it). NO ON H8TE!!!

Boo! Not only is the food awful, but the service is slow and rude. Completely NOT RECOMMENDED. Everything tasted stale.

I think most of people who think this food is good are plastered on the "famous margaritas" made of cheap tequila (jose cuevero). I write this also because Montezuma paid me a vist later that evening. MANY MEXICAN RESTAURANTS' FOOD LOOSE THEIR CHARM AND FLAVOR WHEN THEY BECOME TOO BIG, THE FOOD BECOMES DILUTED.

I was told by someone not to eat the guacamole because it will make you sick...this was after I ate half of it. Sure enough I did...the food was not very good at all. No taste. I'll never go back! I think they thicken up the guac with mayo so it is cheaper, which would make sense why I got ill...

probably the only "Mexican" food around. Lazy services, food and worst of all is the parking, un stable owner with real bad manners. Will never go back.

It's about time El Coyote stayed open late. Late night drinks at El Coyote = a great time! Was there on Friday night...love their margaritas and the quesadilla and nachos were awesome. :)
