I had actually been a frequent guest at this restaurant since it is close to my office and very affordable. On my last visit, the gentleman at the cash register verbally berated my friend. He was extremely condescending and dismissive and we left with my friend in tears. There is no way I will EVER step foot in this place again. There are too many other options in Atlanta that offer quality food with quality customer service.

"Northern hospitality with Southern efficiency." This is for the Decatur location - can't seem to move it though. Anyway... Avoid this Faux-ican disaster. The only thing authentic was my disgust. We got such terrible and unjustified treatment here from the manager (as a group of people of color) that we thought the place might be run by bigots. Was ready to call the NAACP, until I read the citysearch reviews and learned that they are equal opportunity douchebags. And, seriously, the food is just "okay," at best. I don't see what the hype is about. Por favor. This place is so not worth it. You'll get better food and much better treatment elsewhere. I can only explain this place's popularity as a successful psychological manipulation - making people think that if the lines are long and customers put up with abuse, the food must be good and the place is worth it. Trust me, it ain't. Don't fall for it.

This is a great place for college kids who want to get a couple of cheap tacos, eat quickly, and leave the restaurant. With all the tasty and affordable Mexican food in Atlanta, I'd rather sit at a table and enjoy my food comfortably versus waiting in a long line with no guarantee of a table...just for a couple of $2 tacos. It might be best in the dead of winter when the lines are shorter, but I will go elsewhere for a cheap Mexican fix.

It's a shame that a place like Taqueria Del Sol that serves good food has to employ such A-holes to work there. I never seen such a collection of rude individuals in one place like I have at the Taqueria - Howell Mill location. The head A-hole is the bald headed guy with the beard. God forbid you need something and ask that fellow. I've been going there for nine years. I accepted the rude people that worked there because I liked the food. But there comes a point in which you become sick of being treated like garbage. I have a choice and I'm not going back.

My options, get there early or stand in line. Either way, the wait is well worth it. I'm addicted to the fresh salsa and the chicken tacos. YUM!!! I've been there several times and the staff has been cordial each and every time.

This restaurant is very overrated. The staff is arrogant and rude. They have no reason to be especially when the food is mediocre. The tacos sound good but don't deliver. The fish taco tastes like a fish stick and the fried chicken taco is bland. I've taken my business and money elsewhere. There are too many other good options in Atlanta.

TAQUERIA DEL SOL IS ONE OF THE BEST MEXICAN INSPIRED PLACES TO EAT IN ATLANTA. THE FOOD IS GREAT AND INEXPENSIVE. THE OVERALL ENVIRONMENT IS FUN. THE STAFF MOVES FAIRLY QUICK. THE ONLY THING I WOULD CHANGE WOULD BE THE LONG LINES THAT ARE CONSTANTLY OUT OF THE DOOR. BUT THAT IS SURELY A TELL TALE SIGN THAT THE FOOD IS DEFINITELY WORTH THE WAIT.

I've enjoyed the Huff/Howell Mill Road restaurant for almost ten years now and have always known you stand in line, give your order, sit eat and get out! That's it in a nutshell. Food is excellent and the "system" works like a Piaget watch. Not all of us drag around kids and it seems as if they are always the one's complaining.

Taqueria has good food. I do not think it's cheap. Appropriately priced maybe. I get the feeling from the staff that I should be privelaged to eat at their restaurant. The line and the attitude is not worth the food.

I was excited to dine for the first time with my group of ten friends. We waited in the ordering line patiently as we visited with each other. Once my party was ordering, another friend and I walked to get two tables next to each other in the restaurant. We were abruptly stopped by an older gentleman with gray hair in a buzzed haircut and a small earring in one ear. He abruptly stopped us and callously told us that we were not to seat ourselves and that it was ?his job.? Then he proceeded to tell me in a raised voice ?that is why we have that sign on the wall!? As I got back in line, shocked from my mistreatment, he pointed to me and said ?she thinks she can run this restaurant, I RUN THIS RESTAURANT? for all of us to witness. After a moment another friend went to apologize to him for the innocent misunderstanding and received the same rude treatment in return. I can honestly say that I have never been treated so rudely in my life. Fortunately my friends and I have worked in r... Read more

I eat there almost every Saturday and it's is always a pleasant experience with great food. The rules work and why some people feel, just because they have children, that the rules don''t apply to them just amazes me. You sit when you get your food. Period. There is a reason for it and it works as there are almost always empty tables by the time one places their order. If you were so close to ordering, why did it make such a difference to your children to wait two more minutes? If you are looking for a leisurely meal, then Taqueria Del Sol is not for you. But if you are looking for good inexpensive with quick and efficient service, Taqueria Del Sol is it.

I have been going to Taqueria for a few years now and definitely consider it my favorite mexican restaurant in the city. I enjoy their "no-fuss" mentality on mexican cuisine and have enjoyed their margaritas on more than a few nights. I recently had a birthday and despite worrying about the sometimes "funny" ordering method and strict rules, they were able to accommodate my group of 10 and rather efficiently at that. They were more than willing to help me make my small celebration work. The staff was fantastic. As I result, I was able to spend my birthday night with both amazing food and great friends. What more can a guy ask for.

We have gone to Taqueria Del Sol for sometime, and on our recent visit, the place was about half full but the line was moving slowly, and my two year old twins were hungry. Against our usual mo, my wife took a table in the corner to get them seated just as I was getting to the counter. "George" the ever present, semi nice, quite efficicent partial owner was there as usual, and within 60 seconds of my wife finding a table, asked if we had ordered our food yet - she said that no, I hadnt but would in a second, and would he mind allowing my wife and children to sit and get started with a snack (for the regulars, I was literally one person behind the person ordering, not back of the line or anything). George says "NO" you must wait to get a table. My wife pleads with him to make an exception this once for the hungry kids, and he says "we have a policy for a reason, its not fair to others" at this time, Im at the counter, and promply leave the counter, gather the now crying children, and l... For waiting in such long lines with such anticipation, the food only remotely reflected the reputation of the taqueria as the el maestro of tacos. I don't know what these food critics were talking about. Have they even been here? My bean and fish tacos were under seasoned and messy. The salsa sampler was alright, but I've had fresher salsa at other restaurants in Atlanta. It's an average place at best, and I won't be coming back.

We have lived in decatur for 2 years and we have given the decatur taqueria del sol one too many chances as we found out tonight. We were treated so badly by the manager tonight when my wife tried to sit with a friend who was already seated. He was so rude that we just grabbed our kids and left. There are mean people running this overrated place. We walked around decatur to find somewhere else to eat. We were in the mood for mexican so we went by zocalo and found they had recently closed. We then remembered raging barrito was across from zocalo on a strange part of the square. We used to be regulars here until we had twins 12 months ago. We enjoyed the tacos, chimichangas, and great margaritas served by a nice server who seemed to even enjoy our kids. We are so glad we remembered this hidden gem after such a bad start to our evening.

I just had the worst restaurant dining experience at Taqueria del Sol in Decatur. After waiting 45 minutes in line, spending nearly $40 for a family dining experience, I was harassed by the manager to the degree that my wife and family had to leave the restaurant. I have spoken to others and have found similar complaints, with people within our party noting that they have friends that refuse to go there after having similar experiences with the ill tempered manager. When we arrived and saw an old friend there, we decided to sit together. The space allotted would not fit the group around the table (7 adults, 3 kids). We tried to put another table together and were told we were not allowed. The server could not place the food for my wife, son and myself in our area since there was not enough room Frustrated, we decided to separate and sit at a separate table. The manager immediately ran over and told us we weren't allowed to sit at the table. The manager was very rude, treating ... Read more

You've read a bunch of scathing reviews already about the repellent service. Well, it's true. We've gone there quite a bit over the past several years, always feeling ambivalent about it. The food's good, but the service is so outrageously horrible, it'd be laughable if it weren't true. They stay in business only because Atlanta is full of transient people, so there are always suckers around the next corner who don't know better. That, plus all the poseurs who only care about being seen. They can have the place. We go there only when we have to, but I think before too long we'll tire of their bad service and equally bad attitudes.

Maybe the problem with this place is that I don't know how to label it...it's not a typical fast food place, nor is it a restaurant w/table side service, and therein lies the rub. My experience with this place has been mixed, but, my most recent experience will definitely be my last. I went with a friend during lunch hours, and sat at the bar ordering chips, salsa, cheese dip, and yes, a margarita. The food is delicious, but don't you dare go in there anywhere near closing time, because you will be greeted with rude stares and rushed service. Hey, they close at 2:00 p.m. and they aren't kidding. My problem with this concept is this...I believe that the last customer should be treated as if they were the first customer. If the doors are unlocked and you get there before closing time, you should be entitled to the same opportunity (notice I didn't say service) as a customer that arrived at 11:00 a.m. And all I mean by this is, time to eat your lunch and enjoy it. They have a ba... Read more

It's a winner. I hate it because of the hype, my ladies love it because of the food. At last, I've been swayed and have even driven out of my way for the fried chicken tacos. Once you've enjoyed thier unique take on tacos, you'll never go back. You have to wait (depends on your luck) and the staff is rude (that's part of the plan). Just order up some tacos and sit back and enjoy the ride!!

Taqueria Del Sol has a limited menu numbering about 10 items. Mostly tacos served with a variety of meat (chicken, Pork, fish, etc). A few chef specials are offered (and vary) per week. I found the fish, and fried chicken tacos the best. However, my total experience at Taqueria Del Sol was not a pleasant experience and I will not be going back anytime soon. I thought by "packing my patients" and being familiar with the long lines would arm me in handling the Taqueria Del Sol experience. I was wrong. I've never seen a restaurant employee be so rude/aggressive towards me in my adult life. There was an order mix-up, resulting in the next table's salsa being brought to our table. A Taqueria employee come out to our table and yells "You didn't pay for that salsa", and walks off. WOW!!! I call the manager to the table, and offered to pay for any item brought to our table in error. The manager offered to take the salsa away, or leave it at our table at no charge (there was no apology). Well... Read more

First of all, consider yourself warned. Once you eat here, you WILL be addicted. I don't know what they put in their food, but it's outrageously good. Food - the queso and guac are unbelievable. Sooo good. My absolute favorite thing though is the Shrimp Corn Chowder. It's so amazingly good. The Memphis taco and the enchiladas are also incredible. If you go during lunch or dinner peak times, you WILL be waiting in a line. Just shows you how good it is. People are willing to wait outside in a line to order their food. I'd recommend going at off-peak times. The 1 pro though is that the food comes so fast that you will wait to order, but once you sit you never wait more than 5-10 minutes. Go to Taqueria- any location of theirs - it's amazing!

Taqueria del Sol: no other restaurant seems to incite such passion, both for and against. By now, everybody in the southeast knows they are Taco Nazis, so I can't really feel all that bad for the people who break the rules and then get upset about it. Don't go there if you can't handle it. But if you want tasty food for a good price, it's a good choice. Margaritas are always great, my favorites are the fish taco, memphis taco, and fish corn chowder.

New kids to this jewell must learn the ropes to enjoy the experience..which takes about 5 minutes. DO NOT GET A TABLE UNTIL YOU ORDER! Think gentle but firm "table nazis"...the food and drink are the best of class/style in the south and we locals make it a regular habit of eating and sipping margaitas on the patio. TIP...you can sit at the bar and eat without waiting in the line - but you can get a drink while you wait in line if you want. Function over form here guys...try it. The brisket enchilada w red chili sauce is to die for as are the "Westsider" margaritas.

I thought that this restaurant wa very good. I had the mexican rice, which tastes like mexi rice everywhere, but I also had a fried chicken taco w/jalepeno mayo- very nice with a good hint of spice, and the fish taco. yummy. I really liked the place. The line was long and the food took a little longer to come out but on the whole I would love to go there again- there are a lot of other good looking food on the menu such as the shriimp chowder or the salsa trio.

I've read the other reviews posted about this place and was very scared to go there, but my experience was just fine when i went. I went to the Decatur location around 12:30 and there was only a very small line - after the waitress took our orders, the food came out in another 20 minutes. I got the tacos which were good - can't beat authentic Mexican food though. Also I got the corn chowder soup which is just delicious! For those of you who have not been here, don't get scared by the bad reviews, but give the place a try and see for yourself.

By far the rudest place to eat! I have tried over and over to give them the benefit of the doubt, but every time they treat me as if they don?t care I?m there. I?ve been asked numerous times to leave because I?ve been there too long?sorry if I don?t chug my pitcher of margaritas fast enough for you! They don?t even have highchairs for toddlers!! The counter lady I dealt with last time was so RUDE I wanted to jump across the table and have it out with her. If you want friendly service with even better flavor go some place that cares you're paying for their service. If you want to go some place that knows families exists and young children eat too- go to Zocalos Taqueria!! They are so warm and friendly and care that you're there....and treat you nice enough- as if they want you to come back. The service is FAST and FRIENDLY!!

Ok, It's cheap. That's the only good thing I can say. The food didn't taste bad, I guess, but I didn't really have time to taste it. You are not allowed to linger over the inventive kitchen creations. The basic attitude of the Taco Nazis is "Wolf down your food, chug your beer, and get out of our restaurant!!" Of course, there's a long line. I don't think that's about the food. Limited supply creates demand (remember Cabbage Patch Dolls and Tickle Me Elmo?), so everybody thinks its SOO cool because it's a pain to get in. And you're really cool if you know "the rules', unlike those uncool people who try to save a table for their friends.

This place is a joke. Let's run down the list of garbage they call a taco: 1. Fried Chicken with Mayo -- The chicken is KFC quality and just as fatty. 2. Fish Taco - Save a buck, go to Captain D's, get some fish and lettuce, wrap it in a tortilla. Bon appetit. 3. Brisket Taco - foul, gross and nasty. Nice and fatty cuts, too. Oh and the enchiladas are rather bland. The green sauce is sour and unappetizing (taste like they use unripe tomatoes). Go to Willy's or Moe's for quality green sauce. Taco Bell is a five star restaurant compared to this dump. If you want to wait in line for a half hour with a bunch of georgia techies, then this is for you. But, don't try and pass this off as a hip place with quality food.

This ranks as one of the worst eating experiences that I have had. The staff is extremely rude and unexcuseable. When there are multiple tables available in the restaurant there is absolutely no excuse for the staff to ask a table to leave. The food was average and was definitely not worth the horrible service. I will never go back.

Taqueria del Sol needs to get over itself, you can find cheap eats with superior customer service at Taco Bell. Sure, the food is more interesting than most taco joints but let's face it, Taqueria del Sol is nothing more than fast food with a long line and horrible customer service. On my most recent trip, I was actually asked to leave after several not-so-subtle hints about the long line out the door and the number of people waiting for tables. I respect the fact that there was indeed a line but there were also 5+ other tables open at the time I was supposedly preventing people from sitting down. Oh please. The bottom line is the food is not worth the needlessly nasty service and I will not return.

I have never, ever written a review for anything in my life. My experience here was so incredibly horrible, I couldn't NOT review it. Don't go here, it is not worth it. The food is fine, nothing outstanding. The customer service is way beyond terrible. Having spent all of high school and most of college as a waitress, I'm the first one to cut anyone in food service a break. I understand that the job isn't that great, the pays stinks and the people can be really rude. However, even I could not rationalize the treatment I received here. The people are so incredibly rude that's it is inexcusable. I will never, ever go there again. I don?t understand how they?re still in business.

I've been going to this place for years. Usually I'm fine with the service, it's not great but I don't expect it to be. Today they crossed the line. Trying to get to-go food, having to wait 45 minutes just to be able to ORDER, then being told I can only order four single items (I was trying to order 6 or the equivalent of two meals) - I had to walk away. These people are beyond arrogant and don't give a d*mn about customer service. They never have, but never was it so evident as today. I will take my business elsewhere. Worst customer service I've ever experienced, complete with an arrogant "who cares?" shrug.

First of all this isn't Mexican food. Its American food wrapped in tortillas but it's a great lunch none the less. The shrimp and corn chowder is really top notch and the Memphis (BBQ brisket with slaw) is amazing. As far as the service... Just follow the rules. The "don't sit down before you order" rule seems to be the one that ticks people off most. The reason for the rule is because they are always at full capacity during lunch. There is a certain flow that works at Taqueria. If they added another register to make the line move faster you would have people waiting for seats. If they allowed people to reserve tables before ordering it would screw up the flow and people would be waiting for seats. If they allowed people to hangout and talk for 30 minutes after they were done eating... You guessed it, people would be waiting for seats. It's really a very efficient system. I would recommend doing a little meditation before getting in line, becoming at one with the rules and allowi... Read more

My wife and I love the food here - completely addicted to the fried chicken tacos, fish tacos, guac and maragaritas. HOWEVER, every single time we have gone to the Decatur location we have had to brush off the astoundingly personality devoid people that work there. Not only that, but one lunch I nearly scrapped with the head 'table man' or whatever he is, that patrols the tables with regime-like devotion, as half our party was at the counter ordering while the other half was sitting (we had attempted to save a table next to us for them - apparently as horrendous a transgression as trying to sit down before ordering). The latest run-in involved To Go service. Apparently, a customer can only order FOUR items at the counter to go. Far be it from me to attempt to add an order of pre-made guac to our bill. 'FOUR items', I was retold abrasively. 'But it's already made' I quipped, to which the server became more defiant - "Does it look like we need the business?" he added, pointing to ... Read more

TERRIBLE. I would like to tell you about the food but we didn't even eat there. My wife and I went on a Friday night to meet some friends with our baby (in his car seat). Instead of waiting in line, we find a table (near our friends) and decide who will go get the food while the other sits with the baby. Oh NO... The &%#$hole host gets in my face and tells me that I need to wait in line and people are waiting on these tables. Our friends are all stuffed around their table so there is no room. The neighboring tables clear and we are not allowed to sit there either. Two more times I am told that I need to get in line. That's when we leave. Terrible place. I will never return there with or without my child.

These poor reviews are sad! If this place wasn't worth going to, why do I have to wait in line if I don't arrive at the perfect time? The line says enough - this food is GOOD! I've been going almost every week for a year now, and have never had anything but fantastic food and wonderful service, and at both locations (del sol and sundown). The cheese dip is GREAT, and the tacos- awesome!! Even after eating it so often, I *still* get cravings all the time! I love this place!

Talipia with Jalepeno Tartar Sauce, Crispy Fried Chicken, and Brisket with tangy sauce. Try the guac. And don't forget to get a side of Eddie Hernandez's Greens. They are legendary. One of the best quick Lunch spots in the city. Go for great Marg's and Guac after work!

While this place is known for it's iffy service, it's totally worth it. The fish tacos are addictive, and the salsa and queso are worth going for. Pay attention to the rules and don't freak out if you're asked to leave when you're done - it's a busy restaurant and you need to understand that.
