I can still hear the announcer's voice get lost in the excitement. That's the stuff of miracles.

Sort of a reverse of the old the players tried to take the field, the marching band refused to yield line. One of those clips you can see time and time again.

The trombone player took the worst hit.

One of my favourites. I have it on a video-tape and watch it now and then. It never fails to amuse me.

this is one of the best moments ever. i am a huge cal bear fans and this ranks among the bes of cal-stanford moments, right above the Pheonex Five's kidnapping of the stanford tree

Delightfully bizarro. Reminds me of the line from the song Miss American Pie where ...The Marching Band Would Not Yield. I've seen it many times. It's kind of like a combination of The Music City Miracle as conjured up by Mack Sennett. Though I don't have any fondness towards either school, had one of the Stanford Band F--s tackled Kevin Moen, Stanford probably might have won the game [They would have called a penalty from where the player was stopped and Cal would have had one more play because a game can't end on a defensive penalty...and who knows what would have happened after that]. Three fun points about The Play: 1) John Elway engineered an incredible drive to give Stanford a 20-19 lead. It was a glimpse of the future for Cleveland Browns Fans. 2) As with all catastrophes, they are set up by achain of events. Before the fateful kickoff return, Stanford was called for a 15 yard penalty for celabrating too early, which backed them up to the 25. 3) Whenever Stanford wins The Game and receives The Axe, they change the 1982 incription on the trophy to read 20-19. When Cal wins The Axe, they change it back to 25-20.

I have see this replayed over and over and still am amazed by it! My only question is, why didn't one of those bandmembers make the tackle?

The band is on the field!!! Never seen a man lose it like that ever on TV/ Radio. Won't happen in my lifetime

You would think the tape would be worn out by now. This play is high comedy and the Cal play by play is just precious. Imagine if you only heard this on the radio, I'd love to get a third hand account of what happened.
