Fri Jul 01 2011Sometimes a strawberry can be o sweet it actually taste sour but hen a strawberry is at it's perfect point of ripeness you can't beat it. A fresh strawberry pie is one of my favorites. Try dipping a strawberry in sour cream and then brown sugar. You'll love it.

Sat Jan 29 2011What was it about the 50's and 60's when moms would see perfectly good produce and immediately say, "Hey, let's cover this in salt, sugar or butter and cook it beyond recognition." In the case of strawberries, my mom would almost always immediately clean and cut them up and pour so much sugar on top that it quickly turned into a kind of syrupy goo. Not that I didn't eat them that way - it's just that it took years before I discovered there was a legitimate alternative...which is simply to wash and eat them. Granted, some batches can be pretty sour. But, if you seek out the dark red sweet ones there really is no better way...except possibly one dipped in Godiva chocolate or a frozen one dropped in a glass of champagne.

Thu Nov 18 2010Strawberries are pretty hard to beat. It seems that one company has a monopoly on them in the US, which is Driscoll's. Anyway, strawberries are sweet and good for you. Growing up as a kid, my family used to pick strawberries....but for some reason, I thought the store-bought ones were better.

Wed Nov 03 2010Strawberries are one of my favourite fruits. They smell absolutely divine. Eat them with cream, champagne or even on their own. Great with fruit salads. In fact I can't imagine fruit salad without strawberries.

Wed Jun 30 2010I love strawberries. I will let you in on a little secret too, when I have a gag reflex for whatever reason and want to barf, I always think of sweet delicious juicy strawberries to make that reflex go away. I know, it's the tip of the day, right?

Mon Apr 12 2010Fresh Strawberries are a real treat.I used to work for a guy with a huge property and eat them when weeding his garden.(he was happy to share,a generous man).Best of all,he didn't spray any chemicals on them.Thats where I also discovered the way arugala should really taste,as opposed to the crap they serve in many restaraunts.

This fruit is one of my favorites and one of the most popular in the U.S. Great sweetness balancing a mild acidity, this fruit has alot to bring to the table (literally) when it comes to jams, preserves, desserts, and all other manner of dishes. I just wish more people had the opportunity to go pick their own from a small farm and see the difference between the collosal "California" strawberries and the amazing little flavor bombs growing in gardens across the country.
