Other German Kriegsmarine ( Krieks - mah - ree - nuh ) ships on the same wavelength as the Bismarck - besides her sister ship, the Tirpitz - are: Scharnhorst, Gneisenau, Lützow, Prinz Eugen, Graf von Spee.

If you want to watch a great program about war at sea, watch "Sink the Bismark!" on the History Channel. It's riveting. A massive typically built German ship. Powerful, big, lots of firepower, and efficient with a well trained crew. It cost the British dearly in sinking her. The Bismark is another legend in the annals of naval warfare.

The Bismark was the key symbol during WW2 for the German navy. Truth to be told, the German navy was the weakest military branch that the German's had. German ships had a slim chance of winning the Battle of the Atlantic. The British had a powerful navy, and were recieving assistance from the U.S. I don't remember details, but I do know that this ship was chased for a rather long time and getting into several fights before finally sinking. After her sinking, the German navy realized they were in trouble, and really never recovered from it. Fighting through the navy was the first step for the Allies to plan thier attack on Europe. The German U-Boats slaughtered many British ships, but even they could not hold back the Allied navy's.
