My fiancee's car was due for a timing belt, I took it to two other local shops before stopping by Groovy at their north Lamar location. After spending some time talking with their technician Jerimy I felt confident they knew what they were doing. The total job was ~ $400.00, the other two shops wanted close to $600.00 for the same repair. I rarely recommend businesses however I would send my mom to Groovy. Keep up the good work!

my 1998 jeep cherokee was in need of a new on board computer. took it to the dealer and got what i felt was an extremely over priced quote. Long story short about a month later after not having the repairs made at the dealer. My vehicle became almost impossable to drive so i took it to Groovy to get a second quote before back to the dealer. However i was told that the cost at Groovy would be almost $300.00 cheaper. I had to wait a couple of days for the part but was worth two days of public trans. to save$300.00. they have my buisness

this place is great! i have used Groovy a few times and the repairs made to my Honda by Moon have always been right on. Moon has helped me keep my old car running great. I have had some concerns with the prices in the past but after checking around i have found Groovy to be comparable when comparing the whole package. Groovy rocks they have my business.

Daniel “DOC” Green is the best. He is a real mechanic with INTEGERITY. He knows how much I love my little car and how much it means to me that is just had its 200K birthday. Over the years he has replaced a few worn out parts and with some routine maintenance, Daniel keeps my car driving like it did the day I bought it. He has never been too busy to explain what needs to be fixed now and what is showing wear and tear for later. He is PATIENT, HELPFUL, HONEST, and KNOWLEDGEABLE. I also get my car inspected at Groovy on Red River. This has never taken more then ½ an hour and the office staff is always friendly. I trust: Groovy Auto 4011 Red River St Austin, TX 78751-4811 (512) 450-0951

I am not vouching for the Groovy Lube on Guadalupe - they are OK for an oil change, but their repair recommendations can be questionable. But, I have been taking cars and referring friends to Daniel at the Red River location for years and years. He always fixes my car right the first time, gives me a heads-up on anything getting worn and even gave me suggestions when I was shopping for a new car. His recommendation was so good - I rarely see him these days! It is a great feeling to trust your mechanic

There are few things worse than having to spend a few hundred dollars you've worked hard to save up on a car problem that's unexpected and beyond your control. One of those things is learning after the fact that you were overcharged. In this case, there were some problems with my brakes that I paid about $500 to Groovy Automotive this weekend to have fixed. I've since learned from 3 different people who are more knowledgeable about cars than I that there is no way a problem with brakes should ever cost that much. I was recommended Groovy Automotive by my boyfriend who feels he's always received good service and reasonable prices from them which, combined with the other reviews I've read about them has me convinced that Groovy Automotive feels that women, on account of their being women, deserve to pay more for car repairs than men. I know this isn't surprising for an automotive repair place, but it's still damned infuriating."

I have been taking my car to Groovy Automotive for years, and I have always been treated GREAT. As a female, I used to be nervous about taking my car to get fixed, but the guys at Groovy walk me through everything and have saved me money every time I've taken it in. I took my ford into a chain shop for an estimate on brake repair and some other issues. I was given what i felt was a really high price for the repairs needed. so I took it to have it checked out by groovy since i work close by. not only did they fix my car for less they found that the work recommended by the other shop was not all necessary to fix the problems that i was having. Groovy could have took advantage of the situation and went with the other shops recommendations instead they saved me a lot of time and money in finding the correct problem. Thank You Nick!

I took my car to Groovy Lube for an inspection and oil change last week and spent the rest of the week regretting it. When I dropped the car off they told me it would be an hour to an hour and a half to do the work. When I came back an hour and 40 minutes later my car was still sitting outside and hadn't been touched. Hanging around for close to 2 hours in 100 degree heat is not my idea of a good time and I am generally understanding if there is a line, but when I asked the employees about it they said it would be another hour wait. If they had told me upfront that the wait would be over 3 hours I would have taken my car elsewhere. Instead they wasted my entire morning and I still didn't get the work done. My wife and I generally try to support local business whenever possible but companies like Groovy Lube make it really difficult to justify. They lost two more customers today and I would NOT recommend this company to anyone. Groovy Lube; wasting Austin's time since 1993.

My car broke down on me at night, so I had to get it towed to an automotive place quickly. I wanted to support a local business that was nearby, so I had it towed to Groovy Automotive and left my keys and info. Wow, was that a big mistake! I am a typical girl, so I really don't know any details about cars or pricing. The mechanics seemed to take advantage of that. The next day, the mechanic told me a price and what was wrong with my car. IT WAS $500!!! It was a bit unsettling to me, but my car was already there and I would have to tow it again to some other place. Also, I thought maybe that's how much it was supposed to cost. They finally finished the next day, and the breakdown of the pricing didn't seem right. They charge you an initial fee of $75! Hmmm....my car won't start, and it obviously needs to be fixed, so you're going to get money out of it anyways so why charge that EXTRA fee? I did some investigating by getting quotes from a couple of other automotive places and found out... Read more

As a longtime Austin resident I try to go out of my way to support local businesses. Unfortunately after my horrible experience with Groovy Automotive I will not be coming back. The biggest problem with Groovy Automotive is that will not stand behind their work. I took my car to their shop to get a major tune up. After my tune up I noticed my car had developed a significant oil leak. When I took it back to Groovy Automotive they looked at it and said it would cost several hundred dollars more to fix it. Since my car had no oil leak prior to Groovy Automotive working on it, I wanted a second opinion. I took it to another mechanic who quickly discovered that Groovy Automotive had incorrectly installed a new gasket, and that this was the cause of the oil leak. When I went back to Groovy Automotive with this new evidence they were very confrontational. After arguing back and forth they eventually agreed to fix my car for no additional -- they were clearly not happy about this, ev... Read more

As a woman who is not very car savvy, I pretty much expect to be slightly overcharged when I bring my car in for repairs anywhere I go but only to a certain degree. My car was overheating and I figured it was the radiator so I brought it in to Groovy for service. Sure enough they told me that I needed a brand new radiator, radiator cap, and thermostat and quoted me $717. The breakdown from Groovy was parts at $480 and 3 hours of labor. I drove over to NAPA Auto Parts and found the radiator, radiator cap, and thermostat for $200 TOTAL. NO these were not wholesale prices...these were retail. As if the more than double overcharge for parts was not enough, MY NOVICE friend who had only put in one radiator before, put my radiator in my car, changed out the thermostat, and replaced the radiator cap in....1 HOUR!!!! Apparently, experts who replace radiators on a regular basis need three hours to do the same thing a novice does. So in sum, not only was I overcharged more than double on... Read more

I always went to the Groovy Lube on Guadalupe for quick oil changes--and never had a problem with them. Fair price, quick service and all that. So when my breaks went out I thought I'd give these guys my business. Not knowing a lot about cars I wasnt sure if the price quoted was fair, but I went ahead anyways. The good thing about Groovy is that they offer a complementary shuttle service to bring you home while they work on your car, and they'll come pick you up again when it's ready, which I think is Awesome!! EXCEPT they dont tell you about it!!! I went browsing the shops across the street for 2 hours, then came back and sat for an hour and a half in the waiting room before someone finally asked if I needed a ride. They did a good job on my breaks, but weeks later I met a mechanic who said he would have charged me $150 bucks less. So ....live and learn I guess.

The people at this shop are dishonest, misrepresent the final price, and don't do thorough work. Because I have had a small repair and oil changes here, I thought it would be okay to bring my car for a major repair. Big mistake. Eventually I took my car to another shop, and their price was $400 less than what Groovy said was needed. I also found out that Groovy had not even cleared the diagnostic computer code for the part that they had replaced on my previous visit, making it appear that my car still needed that part.

So apparently Groovy Lube's policy is to leave car keys in an unlocked, unattended car. When my car was stolen while in their possession I was left crying out front, not even offered a cab ride home. The general manager and owner refused to talk to me or return my phone calls. After a week I finally got in contact with their insurance company and got my paperwork submitted, but it's now been 3 weeks and Groovy Automotive has yet to submit theirs. One month after my car was stolen I've yet to get a phone call, an apology, or even an inkling that this may be resolved soon.

I have never been pleased with service here, and since I live in the neighborhood I kept going back -- several times for various issues. When I go in for one problem, I always leave with three. They always seem to find another couple issues when they're working on my car. Once, they had my car from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm and never even checked it out, and never called me or my husband to say that they wouldn't have time that day. Once, the day after I had my transmission serviced under their advice to do so "just in case", my passenger side mirror just fell off. Their prices are ridiculous. There is no parking. They're aIways too busy. One time they misplaced my file for a good 10 minutes and I asked me if I was sure I left my car there. ?!? Some of their service people are nice, but others, not so much. I have found a good, trustworthy mechanic on Ben White and I will NEVER go back to Groovy.

I have some suspicion that the popular Groovy Lube oil-change (and auto repair) business near campus may not be entirely ethical. I have taken two different vehicles there at different times and they have suggested incorrect and unneeded repairs. My friend also was sold on a repair that came from an oil change visit, fell for it, and now she will not return there. As an example, when I sold one vehicle to another friend of mine and he took it in for an oil change, they suggested the engine may need serious repair and to take it over to their repair shop. This was quickly proven by another oil change shop ( that only did oil changes) to be completely unnecessary. I also often work on my laptop at a coffee shop next door to their campus location. I often overhear them take people aside after an oil change to "tell them the bad news" about needing an expensive repair. I think they have great marketing but aren't very ethical or honest.

I should first start by saying that as a young female, it's hard to get exceptional service at an auto mechanic. I had gone to a different place at first...where they proceeded to price gauge...roughly $100 over the actual price of the part. I called a trusted mechanic in a different class to discover this unnecessary price gauge. I called Groovy to see what they would quote me. There was no run-around. They called me back five minutes later with a quote in the actual range that it should be. They were open early (7 am) so i could drop it off before an 8:00 class. Not to mention that they DROVE ME TO MY CLASS at no charge. My car was done within three hours. By far, the best service I've had. I will never go anywhere else in Austin for car work. Go to Groovy if you dont want to be ripped off and lied to.
