An important event, and one with many ramifications, not all of them positive.

I remember hearing about the East Germans, "they pretended to pay them and they pretended to work, " about their collective work ethic.  I think it turns out they were very similar to the west Germans in the long run.  Some were particularly well motivated by capitalism.

While I really have nothing but distain for Germany specifically (really its politicians and perception of us, regardless of whether we deserve it or not) I was glad for all common people there. Families were united and it was another great step towards world peace.

Very moving to see this happen. The initial euphoria made it all the more difficult to see the subsequent disillusionment set in: there was a free-for-all on former East German companies being sold off, resulting in Western companies buying them up to shut them down as potential competitive threats. Unemployment skyrocketed. The right wing grew in strength in East Germany and West Germans grumbled about paying the solidarity surcharge tax from their monthly paycheck to fund the reunification. Hopefully they will get over the hump.

Eastern and Western Germany's being re-united will help.....but.....I think after a little while, there will be a WWIII and so the saga continue's, all birthed by Nationalism, Nationalism has'nt finished it's destrucion, and its not finished using Germany as one of it's workers.
