One of the most suspenseful horror movies, and actually made some logical sense. After finding out what really went on at the end of the movie, nothing was scary anymore, but the idea was great. Even Nichole looked like she could act for a change.

Now, this is a horror movie. It's suspenseful, intense, unsettling...all those things that make for a good horror movie. Nicole Kidman is wonderful as Grace, creating an intensity that builds and builds throughout unto an ending that will both surprise you and leaving you scratching your head.

This is a pretty creepy movie. Nevertheless, I thought it was only a little better than average, and then there was the twist ending, which awed me so much that I had to give this a perfect 5.

I liked this movie a lot. A classic style ghost story without the gore and special effects. It was scary enough with just some good lighting techniques.

I liked this better than "The Sixth Sense." If Hitchcock had made a ghost story, it probably would have resembled this. Nicole Kidman was a bit miscast but she pulled it off okay.

Great drama. I rented it and was watching it at home. The first few moments kind of freaked me out. I had to stop and watch the rest when it was daylight. Good suspense. Done without gore and violence. Just acting and mood.

A crappy, overrated movie with the overly annoying Nicole Kidman.

This movie is simply amazing! A very exciting plot with a shocking twist at the end. Nicole Kidman gives a wonderful, brilliant performance, as do the two children, and everyone else in the movie. The candlelight setting and the music add to the suspense. I highly reccomend this thrilling movie. I just want to watch it again and again!

This film was one of the best in the past few years especially in this genre. While it's difficult to label it 'horror', it certainly doesn't lack in suspense. Based on a popular foreign fim, it has a fantastic storyline carried by a strong cast. Kidman shines as the neurotic, anxious mother and the children are surprisingly talented. I actually wasn't bored by this film at all and I thought the director did wonderfully at creating the dark, melancholy aura. The plot twists, the subtle jumps it causes and the fine acting all make it a film not to miss.

A little slow at times, but largely good. Kidman is solid, and the film is suspenseful at times. The film unfortunately suffers from an overly melancholy aura that makes the film boring at some points. Had the film been shorter and more fast-paced it would have ultimately been a solid five star rating, as it is well-written, well-directed and certainly well-acted.

A good scary at times thriller.Good acting by Nicole in a role I didn't think she could have pulled off.The ending either shocked people or they saw it well before the end. I was in the latter group. A good suspenseful WW2 thriller.

A really interesting and dark tale of spirits haunting a family despite the "twistful" ending which kinda sucked btw.

Wow. What a great film. It's nice to see something like this come along, especially right when you're ready to give up on a genre. Kidman is amazing in this. All of the performances were top-notch, and the story was well crafted. Keeps you guessing right until that mind blowing plot twist that I'm still marveling over.

A really Great film that had me going, right up to the surprise ending. Sent chills down my mind without any use of knives, axes or any other devices...and not a drop a blood spilt.

interesting movie. Takes place right after the war. in a spooky mansion. A woman hires a staff to help with her kids and house. the staff must follow strict rules about keeping house closed up and locked and curtains drawn because of kids allergy to sunlight. Starts to get spooky when little girl claims to see ghosts, as movie goes on we find out more things about family and staff until surprise climax. pretty well done. and Nicole Kidman was good as the troubled mother. as CastleBee mentioned it managed to be good and scarey without resorting to blood and gore.

If you appreciate horror movies that rely on suspense and subtlty rather than blood and gore, you'll probably enjoy "The Others." Nicole Kidman is amazing as the high strung mother dealing with her children's bizarre condition and all the other freaky things going on in her huge, creepy house. The movie keeps you on edge almost throughout, and the acting throughout is outstanding. I had to take away a star for the obligatory topsy turvy ending, but this is definitely a flick worth watching.

Not really a horror, more psychological and supernatural suspense, but a good movie, the twist at the end did surprise me.

When some friends invited me to see "The Others" with them, I thought it was going to be just another stupid slasher movie, with lots of blood but not much of a story line. I WAS SO WRONG! The whole movie was great, especially the ending. It really gave me something to think about.

This movie had the one of the most original and mysterious twists I've ever seen. From the beginning to the end, I loved this movie. My absolute favorite part - at the very end, the one boy is leaving with his family and he looks back at the other family standing in the window and then they disappear. Great way to end this movie!

Just when you think the psychological horror film has been completely replaced by slash, gash, and trash films along comes a gem like this! “The Others” devilishly played with my mind and scared me silly at several points and all without exploiting one drop of blood. This tale reached deep into the human psyche and pulled out many of the things we all fear, dread and imagine. I don’t think I realized that Nichole Kidman could even act until I saw her in this part but she does a great job as the nervous, high-strung mother of the two strangely afflicted children. As a matter of fact, the entire cast is excellent. The house and grounds also provide a wonderful gothic setting rivaling anything from the golden age of Hollywood (think “Rebecca”, “Wuthering Heights”, “Jane Eyre”) and the entire film had a very thick atmospheric feeling. “The Others” is also beautifully shot in what appears to be mostly natural light. Excellent rental for a dark and stormy night!

Pretty good film that keeps you glued with it's mysterious characters and sets/costumes. This is a wonderful period film that makes you think what is going to happen to them, what happens in the end. And the ending is marvellous, but is just a cheap re-invention of the Sixth Sense.Kidman is great, however i would have liked to have seen more emotion or/and anger in her, her character was quite passive. The children act brilliantly and i'm sure we'll be seeing them in the future. Overall, the film is fabulous, and does make you jump out of your seat with quite a few scary moments, but i was disappointed at the lack of originality it took (especially at the end) being a rip-off of the Sixth Sense.

The most enjoyable thing about watching this movie at the theater was seeing the audience's reaction. We went to see it opening night, and the theater was packed. The two teenage girls sitting right next to me screamed contstantly during the jumpy scenes and ended up making me jumpy. Then, during a particularly quiet scene, a woman in the back of the theater pulled a solo and screamed - even though it wasn't a scary part in the movie. The whole theater cracked up laughing - I guess because everyone else felt the same way. However, during another quiet scene someone in the back of the theater (I think it may have been the same person) yelled out the Big Secret that was the key to the ending. Everyone would have figured it out very soon thereafter, but it was kind of annoying to hear it from Ms. Loudmouth in the back. However, I found the movie completely delicious. During several parts, the hair on the back of my neck and that on my arms stood straight up. With all the goofy teen horror movies and stupid ghosty-flicks out in recent years that failed to do the job, The Others pulled it off wonderfully.

This movie was a surprise for me. I went to see it because the story attracted me and because i wanted to see how was nicole kidman - doing something so different from satine. conclusion after seeing it: its very good, with a great story, good cast (the kids are amazing, especially the girl), and with nicole kidman showing, without a dbout, that she is a LOT more than mrs. tom cruise

As much as i want to say i loved the Others, i really didn't. I liked it for what it was, a suspencful artfully done summer sleeper with a brain. Nicole Kidman is really showing off her talent contrasting the Diamond Dog lover in Moulin Rouge to this role where she is a strict and over protective christian mother is wonderful to behold. Kidman is a great talent and she desplays it proudly here. The supporting cast does an equally good job especially the young cast members playing Kidman's children. They hold their own but do not steal the show like Haley did from Bruce in the Sixth Sense ( Not a hard task when co starring with ol'Bruce) The Other was laking something however...I saw the end coming a mile away and i wished the rules of beinga ghost were explained a little. Like, When ghosts eat do they eat our food? Do they move the plates around and eat at our table? The breakfast scene needs some explination. The Others is good bu not the best ghost movie i have ever scene. Recommended far more than 13 Ghosts.

this is an OK movie at best, I'm tempted to give it two stars instead of three. The concept of the movie is good, it doesn't do anything to insult your intellegence. On the bad side, it's dull, it's dreary, it's really S-L-O-W. There's just not a lot of "Oh, that was good/clever!" in the movie. The ending is good, but I expected more. This movie has been compared to The Sixth Sense, but in my book it falls FAR short.

I really, really liked 'The Others'. It takes place in post WWII in the English Channel of Jersey. Nicole Kidman plays a somewhat-off woman, isolated in her large Victorian house with her two children, who she claims are allergic to sunlight. Funny things start to happen when three servents show up (they are there to replace the other servents wno mysteriously vanished..) The young actors who play Grace's(Nicole Kidman's character) children do a remarkable job and add a lot to director Alejandro Amenabar's (I hope I spelled that right) dark, dreary vision. Where this movie rarely reaches nail-biting horror, it does have a very creepy undertone-what with the dark house (the curtains must be shut at all times for the children and they have no electricity) and the little-almost cliched ghost-type goings-on (Doors shutting, piano playings, curtain openings.) Nicole Kidman does a wonderful job of a woman on the verge of madness, trying to combat all at once the possibility of the supernatural taking over her home(and her children-the best part of the movie is when her daughter channels this scary old woman), her children becoming scared and distant, and her need for her long lost husband to return(this part is a big head scratcher..watch the movie, you'll see what i'm talking about.) As far as the servants go, they very obviously are up to some sort of something that a lot of the ending is kind of ruined. But it is such a cool ending, that really doesn't matter. My main complaint with this film though, was that it always kinda stayed on a plain. Even amidst all of the apparent goings-on, it never really reached the feverish chaos I expected. It was still a very solid movie. One that I would recommed highly
