I have been boarding and grooming my dog here for several years. Ellen and her staff are GREAT. Their love of animals is evident, and their prices are very reasonable. They were very accomodating and flexible when I had a problem arriving during regular business hours. They know me there, and I know they take great care of our dog. I recommend it highly.

Knowledgeable, attentive owner and staff that treats their guests like family. This cozy spot in the West University area has become a weekly resource for my little terrier, Merry, and me and I cannot say how very much it helps me to know that Ellen and her staff will treat my dog just the way I do. Merry goes for doggie day care as well as a sleepover each week. You should drop by and meet Ellen and see how special this place is.

I have been taking my dog to PPI on Bissonnet in Houston for over 3 years now. Bob loves it. He comes back healthy and loves socializing with the other dogs. They do a great job bathing and grooming him. When Bob was younger, I always took him with me to visit friends out of town. Now he prefers the short ride to PPI and so do I.

I wish I had read these reviews before now. I have been having my dog groomed at Pampered Pet Inn for 5 years, one other time I swore them off because of fleas and ticks but foolishly went back. I recently took my dog there when we had new rugs and reupholstered furniture delivered, thinking I wanted my dog cleaned and groomed on the new carpet. One week later our nightmare began, over the next 5 days we found 50+ ticks on him. This is on an indoor dog that's walked with a leash on the sidewalk. I will never step foot in the Pampered Pet Inn again.

To the author of this horrific injustice, How unfair of you to make such comments about a business of which you have no current knowledge. You claim that you worked for the Pampered Pet Inn in the early 1980’s. This is not the same business that it was back in then. This particular Pampered Pet Inn has been through two other business owners since Selma Leiber and definitely operates with a higher standard than what you described. Your grievance is not with this Pampered Pet Inn and any guilt you feel towards any cruelty that may have happened 30 years ago is not my fault. How dare you make these remarks towards me and my business. We have absolutely no ties to whatever kennel you are talking about that was located on Braeswood. This establishment may have been affiliated with it in the past, but is no longer. I am also pretty sure that the business of which you are referring to has been closed for the past 15 years at least. We, at the Pampered Pet Inn strive to maintain an adequ... Read more

I used to work for Pampered Pet Inn in the 1980's and I saw pitiful conditions there. They have a tendency to overbook for the kenneling areas and stuff animals into any cage available. A pet owner might be shown a roomy kennel but then their dog might spend hours of a day in what is literally a cramped veterinary cage especially at holiday times where they make all their cash. An animal lover working in the kennels was all but brought to tears trying to make the animals comfortable and provide for their needs, with not enough employees or help. I spent a Christmas Eve in 1983 crying on the floor of Selma Leiber's horrific Braeswood kennel because no one was there to help me walk or medicate all the dogs and kitties and rabbits. I spent 14 hours there until I fell to the floor in exhaustiion with sweat in my eyes and tears in my face. My friends (who were not employed there), came to help me take care of the animals and walk them. The way this company did business back then should ... Read more

I have been using the Pampered Pet Inn for over a year now and had NO idea what was going on until now. I just found out that they leave the dogs unattended and inside for 12-13 hours every single day. They leave by 7 in the evening and do not return until 7 the next day... I am completely astonished to find out that half of every day I have been paying for my dog to be cared for, she has been left in the cage. My dog also had an INSANE case of ticks that I couldn't remedy no matter how much I bathed and medicated her. I initially thought it was a problem coming from my neighborhood, but after reading all these posts, I can't believe I never realized it was the kennel. When I say "insane," I mean that I finally had her shaved at the vet and after an hour and a half of work, they had removed over 40 ticks. Do NOT take your dog here. It's a complete mistake.

We have been boarding our dog Buster at the Pampered Pet for over 2 years and we have had a great experience every time. For a high energy dog, it is a great place to go. The staff knows my dog and I can tell they truly care about the well-being of my pet. Thanks for a great job!

I boarded my 4 year old toy dog here over the Christmas holidays. I felt very comfortable with the staff and you can't beat the rate! However, I wish they would walked my dog instead of just letting him out in yard. He also got horrible fleas...although I didn't have him on prevention meds so it is equally my fault. I also think he may have been a little overfed. Overall I guess you get what you pay for.

My family and I just moved to the Houston area about six months ago. I have a Westie named Bono and a Retriever named Miles. We have checked out a number of different places to board our animals and none of them compare to the Pampered Pet Inn's charm. We have had to go on a number of last minute trips and the staff at the Inn is very helpful with getting our boarding needs met with short notice. We picked up our pets on Sunday afternoon and they were squeaky clean with a festive bandanna around their necks! The staff even washed Bono's bed for us at no extra charge! I was very pleased. I have toured the facility and I will admit that it is older and rather outdated but I like the price and the care the staff provides and my pets don't care what it looks like :-). I highly recommend the Pampered Pet Inn for anyone who wants their pets to be well taken care of at a reasonable price. And who wouldn't want that?! I haven't taken them to get their grooms yet but I have received great re... Read more

Never EVER take your dog here. They are careless and neglectful. Yesterday I picked up two dogs from pampered pet. They were actually my boyfriend's ex's who had left them there for over a month sadly while she was moving. When I saw the dogs i almost began to cry. They were in horrible condition. The Chiuaua was extremely malnourished and could barely walk! She had a problem with her legs that the owner of Pampered Pet had tottally ignored. She is now on medication. I also found a large TICK in her ear when we got home! It was obvious! She didnt even check them! The Yorkie was very skinny also and she had not been groomed AT ALL. Her nails were extremely long and she had a ridiculous amount of eye boogers. I had to brush the mats out of her very long hair when we got home. I am now having trouble getting them to eat. I could not believe that this lady had actually told us that she had been "Preparing them every day for pick-up." DID SHE THINK WE WERE BLIND?? I just don't understan... Read more

I have taken my dog (child) to the Pampered Pet Inn 3 times 2 times have resulted in a visit to the vet. The first incident led to my dog getting kennel cough which led to a partially collapsed trachea. This occurred even with her yearly vaccinations. I had to go out of town twice in a row very quickly and had to board her. I am new to town and did not know where else to take her. Each time she came back with ticks and fleas. She has never had an issue with fleas or ticks before. I give her a flea and tick treatment monthly and bathe her regularly, but she was still affected. So, no dog is safe. She even developed a skin irritation from the bites which forced me to make another vet appointment for tomorrow. I am sure this vet visit will cost a fortune just like the first one did. I just picked her up today and I will be stopping by to speak with the owner tomorrow. I will never return to the Pampered Pet Inn. If you love your dog like I do please do not send your pet there.

This is my first review. EVER. I usually think people who take time out of their busy lives to complain about something trivial are silly. In this case though, my puppy is not trivial. Shes part of the family. So if i can save one dog from this place it will be worth the time it took out of my day. New to Houston, I found The Pampered (yeah right) Pet Inn at Citysearch. It had a bad review already but as i said i just figured that person had a bad day or something. I should have listened. It was convenientely located and when I went to check it out it seemed harmless enough. Then I picked my baby up! First of all, she shook all the way home in the car and normally loves the car. Her fur was falling out and she is not a shedding breed (not the sign of a happy puppy). She had poo on all her paws, a rash on her chest and sticky film on her whole body. They told us we could bring in a blanket and toy but we are not sure why since it was quite obvious they did not give either to her... Read more

I have been going to Pampered Pet Inn for about 6 months and I am so pleased. After reading the reviews on Citysearch, I decided to give them a try and I was not disappointed. They do such a fantastic job with my dog, Gigi. They are also very friendly. I highly recommend them.

I never really complain too much, but this was an exception. I had left my dog a couple of nights when I had to go out of town and my experience was terrible. I had met the owner previously and yes, she is a nice lady. However, with most businesses she is not around all the time. I had set a date previously for my dog, and when I walked in two people were sitting behind the counter and after 5 minutes, standing with dog on a leash, no one said Hi, Hello, Welcome, or We'll be with you shortly... I almost walked out. Finally they took her to the back.. 2 days later, they had lost the bed I provided, my dog had ticks on her, and they told us she urinated on the bed so they threw it away.(never does she do that) they simply didn't let her out much.. Never again will I take or recommend this place to anyone who cares for their pet.

I give this doggy place 5 stars for the excellent grooming by Ellen! We are constantly stopped by people and complimented on our poodle's haircut! Our pooch loves to go there-and for a poodle, grooming it is an all day affair, so I know that it must be a nice environment. We've day and evening boarded and have never had any problems at all. Thanks for such a super job Ellen!

DON'T SEND YOUR PET THERE!!! My dog stayed there 3 times in the last 5 months & 2 times she had lots of ticks & the other time she had several gashes/cuts by her ear. I was told the owner was going to call me but never did. An employee told me I could bring my dog in the next day for a flea/tick bath but she had a bath when I picked her up. They said they only spray the yard once a week. BEWARE!!!

PET OWNERS BEWARE! We boarded our two cocker spaniels at Pampered Pett Inn for 1 week. When we went to pick them up, the blanket we had left with them was in shreds, but I had no idea why. Well, when we got them in the car and started loving on them, they had bumps all over them. They were covered with TICKS from head to toe!!!!! The blanket was in shreds because the poor dogs spent the whole time scratching. We called PPI when we got home, and when my husband said "we came to pick up our dogs and they were..." the lady on the phone completed the sentence before he did "covered with ticks?" They knew it and didn't do a thing about it. Thank God our cockers are white, so you could really see the ticks when treating them. It took months to get rid of the bld. suckers! I will never take another animal there again, and would never recommend them to anyone. Not even to an enemy!

Average conditions. The place was disorganized - and the staff seemed stressed. Might have been due to busy time of year. A bit concerned with how my dog was behaving after spending time there - she seemed aloof and almost seemed to not recognize us. Despite being told that she would be fed and would be given a drink - she was STARVING and dehydrated upon her return home. Though I understand being busy - I do not understand the apparent disregard for my pet's well being. Will likely not return.

Nice receptionist but once I was in the grooming area, it was quantity instead of quality!! Very obvious that the dogs weren't handled well during their grooms! Don't recommend!!!

My dog loves this place! Everytime I pull my car up in front of the Pampered Pet Inn he starts jumping up and down in my car! When we go in he bounces up and greets the employee's like there his best friends! I love that they remember my dog's name! I picked him up and he was clean and looking beautiful. He didn't have a scarf but thats fine with me, you just have too take them off when you go home! (I thought that person who's mad about a scarf not on the dog, was crazy!) The employee's are friendly and I'm going to bring all my pets back!

My dog didn't even smell like she had been given a bath, maybe they rinsed her? To top that off, they charged and extra dollor for shampoo? Never seen that one before! Her fur was so uneven, I had to go home and even her up. I've never taken my poodle where she didn't have her nails painted, they didn't do it or ask if I wanted it done. I told them specifically how I wanted her cut, because they asked and she certainly wasn't done like I requested. I'm truly saddened that I was mislead by other reviews left on this site, I'm wondering if the business put those replies on here instead of actual customers. I am a very fair person, don't like to complain - but I have to report that I'm not impressed with this higher dollar clip joint at all. My dog is usually very happy to see me when I pick her up from the groomer, today she looked terrified and wouldn't even look at me. It has been a few hours and she still won't have anything to do with me! What did they do to my dog? I was ... Read more

I have taken my dogs several places to get groomed as was looking forward to taking them to Pampered Pets. The first time they did an excellent job. The second time I specifically mentioned to wash one of my dogs chin (she got into a box of jello). When I picked her up she looked good but still had sticky goo on her chin. I decided to give it another chance and when I picked up my dogs that time they came back without scarves! I've been to groomers many times and that has never happened. The cut also was not as short as they usually do it. Needless to say, I'm not going back. They are very friendly but I truly think they are too busy and that it is affecting the quality of their work. When you're paying that much you should get quality work each and every time.

Ellen's is an excellent pet grooming and pet sitting place. I have taken my 15 year old Bichon there weekly for a bath and a groom once a month for the past 5 years. She is is treated with respect and dignity, and she is beautifully groomed with either ribbons and/or a scarf for the occasion (example: July 4th red, white and blue colors). She is treated like one of the family, and it is an excellent place to take both older and younger dogs and cats. Our cat has been boarded there numerous times, and he comes home happy and contented. Prior to coming to Ellen's, I drove to Antoine on I10, and Ellen's pricing is reasonable and comparable to other groomers. I would recommend Ellen's to anyone who is worried about good pet care during the day and for overnight. Be sure to request a bath and groom before you pick up your pets after a long stay. They do an excellent job even with my male cat.

I regularly take my dog for a full groom and am always pleased with the result. He gets a close shave, his ears and paws are carefully manicured, and he smells great. The owner truly loves this business and has been in it for over 20 years. The staff is concerned about his dry skin and baths him with special shampoo. The atmosphere is friendly and open. I've been back in the grooming area and kennels and have seen well cared-for happy dogs. I will never go anywhere else. My dog holds his head a little higher with his spiffy bandana from the Pampered Pet Inn!!

I took my puppy here for grooming becasue they were very friendly over the phone and it was rated high. But after picking my puppy up almost four hours later he had a cut but he did not sell clean. Upon further inspection I noticed that his nails had't been cut and his ears hadn't been cleaned or plucked. Both of these things I specificly asked about when I brought him in. This was also the most I've ever paid for grooming. It's possible that this was an oversight, becasue they were very busy. However, I will never go back.

i was very pleased with the grooming work that was done on my cat. The shave was detailed, difficult to groom parts were not avoided, and everything that i asked for was performed perfectly. In addition, he smelled delightfully. And all that, for a very good price compared to most places in the city.
