The Himalayas have most of the highest peaks in the world, and Mount Everest is the highest at over 29,000 feet (though I believe that there are taller mountains measured from base to peak). Obviously an impressive natural wonder; however, just being the tallest mountain does not merit five stars in my opinion, especially when compared to some of the other items on the list like Victoria Falls. Nevertheless, Everest has shown us that even a humble beekeeper and a Sherpa, in the form of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, can aspire and reach great heights.

About Mount Everest (*)

Located in the Himalayas, on the border between Nepal and Tibet, Mount Everest is the tallest mountain on Earth at over 29,000 feet (8,800 meters) above sea level. New Zealander (and beekeeper) Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay reached the pinnacle on May 29, 1953, the first recorded men to march over the frozen ridges and stand on the peak of Mount Everest. Since Hillary's successful ascent, more than 700 other climbers have succeeded, and at least 150 others have died trying.
