Located in Arizona, the Grand Canyon en-compasses 277 miles of the Colorado River and adjacent uplands. One of the most spectacular examples of erosion anywhere in the world, the Grand Canyon is unmatched in the incomparable vistas it offers to visitors on the rim. Spanish explorer Garcia Lopez de Cardenas, part of Francisco Vasquez de Coronado's expedition seeking legendary cities of gold, was the first European to see the Grand Canyon.

This is the most spectacular natural formation that I have ever seen. Just a really beautiful place and credits to the National Park System for keeping the park area so pristine and uncommercialized. A tip as an alternative to the National Park - from Hualapai hilltop, you can hike to Supai, an Indian village in the Western Canyon, and swim under the Havasu Falls, camp there, and hike down to the confluence with the Colorado river (8 miles from campsite). Much less crowded than Grand Canyon village.2

From personal experience, I can attest that the Grand Canyon is a spectacular sight. The majestic feel of the canyon mixes with the organic colors of the cliff walls to produce an unparalled view. Getting around inside the canyon is not for the faint of heart. Hiking to the bottom and back is a taxing experience with the intense heat, steep incline, and sporadic and quick weather changes. Pack light and take plenty of water.6

The most beautful natural formation on Earth. Its beauty is simply breath-taking. It is almost like a painting. The way the sun shines off the rocks is breathtakingly awesome. 4

There is no way any picture anywhere does it justice. Standing on the South Rim and peering into the canyon hardly seems real, it's such an awe-inspiring experience. Even from the air it dwarfs your airplane, and makes you feel insignificant compared to the vastness of the Earth and time. 4
