This is one of those songs that is just plain funny. Great tune too. A fun dance tune at the club.

This song is hilarious! I especially love, We can dance if we want to We can leave your friends behind 'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance Well they're no friends of mine. Just cracks me up!

Immortal, infectious and silly, The Safety Dance is the epitome of a classic one/two hit wonder. The Canadian group Men Without Hats claim that the single is about nuclear weapons, but if so, the message was lost from day one. The video for the song was an early MTV favorite and was actually a bit groundbreaking as it wasn't a performance video which was typical of the day. The Safety Dance charted in the U.S. for 16 weeks in 1983 (peaking at #3), and its contemporary popularity is evidenced by the subsequent covers by Pain Station, Luxt, Fear Cult, and Status Quo (among others). Notwithstanding the groups other chart hit, VH-1 ranks The Safety Dance at #83 on its list of the greatest one hit wonders.
