 | PzKpfw VI E (28) 01/15/2005 | I also like Patton's 'I'd rather have a German Division in front of me then a French division behind me'. Damn, he really hated the French and the Soviets, probable as much as I hate him.

 | Sundiszno (32) 04/17/2004 | This one has made the rounds many times over. Jed1000's comment about straight boulevards in Paris is also applicable to the layout of streets in Washington, DC. L'Enfant designed the streets, and the traffic circles, for exactly the same reason. What are now traffic circles were designed as artillery positions - the guns could be slewed around to shoot straight down any of the avenuse leading into the circle.

 | Jed1000 (74) 10/29/2003 | The line is funny. I wonder if Patton was aware that there is indeed a military purpose behind the design of Paris' beautiful streets and boulevards. Louis Napoleon had his city planner/architect Baron Hausemann redesign all of Paris' major streets (making them very wide and perfectly straight) so that his cannons would have a clear shot at protestors should there ever be another revolution.
