This is a gritty dive bar with cheap beer - $3.50 PBR tallboys (as of this post) and great punk atmosphere. Definitely one of my favorite places to go for a happy hour drink or three. It has a back patio that gets the job done, kick-ass jukebox, pool table and a pretty good popcorn machine. If you pass by the Market St / Church St area I recommend stopping by.

I like this place. It is my favorite dive in the city, because no matter how I am dressed or how I feel a drink here is always right - I can go before a night in the mission, or after a bit of dancing in the SOMA clubs!

I'm a gayhomo (other reviewers not mine)...and I love Lucky 13. No, it's not a gay bar...but it's a bar in Upper Market, so lots of Q's (that's the q word that sounds like beer) end up here for great beer, good music, and lots of table space to put your ever growing collection of pint glasses. Saturdays they sometimes have free BBQ and lately they've had weekend specials. As someone else mentioned, great happy hour.

Dont listen to the person above, they are just a stupid gayhomo! and have no idea what a good place is. Of course your gonna get treated like that walking into a pool hall with your feather boa, all like helloooo mister bartendaaa can i have a zimaa pweeaseee ur such a cutie. This place is a great place to play pool, especially since they treat those who are gay like they should be treated. over all A+++ Cheap beer good stuff.

I've been living here for a couple months, trying to find "my" bar, and Lucky 13 is it. Friendly bartenders, great music, cheap beer AND a great selection, diverse & friendly crowd, great location next to the J and Market street buses. What do you want? They even have a nice little patio. I'm sorry that the guy posting the review before mine had a bad time. Man, I'm not gay but I'll buy you a drink if you'll come back. Just leave another review and name a time. I was pretty fired up when I found this place - I told another Chicago expat about it and we went there last night and he of course loved it too. Just too keep it real - I'll complain about what I can: phenomenal jukebox could only be imporved with a bit more variety, and it would be good if there were more pool tables.

I decided to walk into that place last night with a couple of friends. I found a very unfriendly and unpleasent atmosphere, but most of all what was shocking to me was the bar tender. NASTY guy with a NASTY attitude, and yes I took it personal since he was ok with my 2 straight friends, but he clearly was annoyed at me..yes I am gay, and no I wasn't hitting on him..I mean who would? Inexplicable that this day and age in SAN FRANCISCO in the CASTRO someone would have a problem with a gay guy asking for a drink at a bar...this guys needs to move back to whatever cave he came from! Not only was he NASTY and UNPLEASENT but this joke of a bartender does not even know how to serve a drink, if he has to do more than opening a bottle of beer he gets lost. I have to admit, the female bartender was a bit friendlier and at least was able to pour a decent drink. Of course, I decided to walk down the street and walk into The Transfer...kick a** bar tenders, great atmosphere and friendly crowd... Read more

I have been going to this bar for years not regularly but consistantly. They have it all...a large space, pin ball machines, back patio, long bar, great bartenders an awesome jukebox and a clientele with some great tattoos. The drinks are strong and the bartenders skilled. I highly recommend Lucky 13.

there should be a bar like this in every city in america. well, there probably is, but this is SF's. crowded bar but somehow the bartenders always know when you need a drink, lots of tables, good pinball, outdoor patio for smoking/fresh air, pool table, jukebox usually playing something i haven't heard in years but always liked, lots of people with tattoos. we were in the neighborhood on halloween and it felt like we had reached some sort of safe haven when we got off the street and into this bar. thank you lucky 13!

In Short Black-and-red walls, hanging beer signs and Lucky 13 merchandise tacked above the bar give this tattoo-friendly hangout its modest vibe. A bevy of beer taps (including Chimay) line the lengthy bar, which runs the right-half of the narrow space. On the left, two tiers of high tables with stools offer plenty of seating. Near the back pool table, a jukebox blasts vintage punk and rock tunes.

Very cool, very rugged Market street bar. Awesome beer selection, fantastic juke box, and interesting crowd. Reminds me of Zeitgeist, but without the beer garden. Actually, I think it does have a beer garden (but that part doesn't remind me of Zeitgeist).

There is no other place in the city like the Lucky 13. Super long bar in a Great location~ Great crowd. The juke box is the BEST~ Clash, Adverts, Eagles of Death Metal, Modest Mouse, Supersuckers, etc... You gotta love the bartenders (especially the females~ these girls are SWEET). Some of the guys behind the bar can be a bit harsh~ you get what you give. I never miss a tuesday, thursday or friday. Great belgians on tap, and Friday night Margaritas! Heavy handed pours~ watch out! Pool, fussball, photo booth, pin ball, patio.

The most unassuming, and simultaneously most cool bar in the city... with no rules about who you have to be and fewer phonies per foot than far more fat-cat fetes

This, along with Zeitgeist, is one of my favorite bars in the city. Unpretentious, great juke box, cool people who are just there to drink, hang out, or play pool. Outside smoking patio and 2nd level balcony with pinball. Popcorn machine and great wall paraphernalia. And for the eastbayers, there's a Lucky 13 in Alameda on Park St.

Aside from the Rock and Roll vibe this place cops, it's really a bit forgettable. The drinks are ok (when you're not sneered at for not ordering a beer), the crowd is dullsville. There are bars that are similar that are infinitely better (Treat Street, Fulton Street and Crow Bar, to name a handful).

This place has been the standard for years. One of the best damn jukeboxes in the entire city, hands down. Killer crowd, rockers, bikers, artists, etc. I love it...plus free pool on Sunday afternoons. Be sure to check out the patio out back.
