Sure,he was one of the most influential people in history - unfortunately. But,not in the Good Way - on any level.

It doesn't matter if you love or hate the concept of marxism it has had great impact on the events and occurences of the 20th century. yeah, would have to say Mr. Marx has made his mark.

Immensely influential, and the fact that his ideas were twisted and corrupted by some of his self-appointed disciples does not lessen his influence.

Far from perfect philosophy- but there is an impact and not all of his work can be discarded. He had some interesting writings and ideas concerning labor, wages, and problems he saw with present economic systems. And the namecalling of him as 'commie' smacks of a lack of education- Marx thought that shite-infested Russia was the last place his ideas should have been executed and perverted. I don't buy all of what Marx is selling- but he isn't the villian people have made him out to be because nations have perverted his concepts into military/ideological/theological dictatorships and called it 'communism'. . .four stars for influencing (and failed executions) of his ideas in many places.

I don't subcribe to his ethos- however, like most famous people, he was right about some things and dead wrong or made mistakes in other ways, but only here could someone of undoubted importance in world history and economic theory rank near the very bottom on what appears to be an objective list about influence...

His teachings polarized the world with the adoption of communism

I believe I am a Marxian, rather than a Marxist. Which means I don't blabber on about dialectical materialism and dictatorship of the proletariat, but I have a lot of time for his thoughts and influence.

Marx did not "invent" socialism btw. Socialism as an articulated European philosophy began with French radicals in the 17th century. Many of them were inspired by the example of the early Christian communities.

I prefer Groucho Marx over Karl Marx.

IT's amazing to me the damage he's cause with the whole Communist thing. I suppose he was being innocent enough when he wrote the book, but it fell into the wrong hands. Still, he's got such a sinister sounding name.

If I were rating this man on his character I would give him a 1. Even he knew that his new socialist government could only be acquired with the use of millitary force and that's exactly how it was brought about. With the fall of communism in Russia and the eastern Euro countries during the late 80's and early 90's there is still about a quarter of the population on the planet who still live under this tyranny.

Karl Marx is definitely one of the most influential people ever (at least he used to be). His invention of socialism set in place the New World Order of the twentieth century. If he had never lived, the Soviet Union wouldn't have emerged, the Allies may not have won World War II (Imperial Russia had a very weak army), and there would have been no Cold War. Modern history would have been quite different.
