I have never been loyal to a stylist or colorist before coming to Christopher Stanley. Stanley has been cutting and teaching me to care for my difficult hair for 5 years now, and I couldn’t be happier. He takes your desires, your lifestyle, and what’s actually realistic for your hair into account during a very thorough and attentive consultation. The cuts work with my hair texture, are easy to style and care for, and always grow out beautifully. I had been having my hair highlighted at another salon and when I asked for more low-lights to go a little darker for the fall, I walked out with hair that had been dyed an unnatural shade of eggplant. I called Stanley in tears, and he set me up with a last minute appointment with Peter. Peter put me at ease right away and worked with the new base color, protecting the health of my hair. After another person mentioning that it seemed odd that members praising this salon only left comments on this board,I decided to check out the fuss myself. I saw Peter about a month ago and, needless to say, was deeply disappointed. He failed to listen to me, was extremely pushy, and imposed his own ideas and opinions. Even though I made myself clear as to what I wanted to do with my color, he went in a very different direction. I'm sorry, but, for $450,I expected to get what I initially invisioned, not to mention my color looked extremely dull! I was horrified. I should have known something was fishy when I got my appointment the day before and saw that the salon was almost empty when I got there. Never will I go back to anything this bad again!

After my long-time colorist left NYC, I wandered hither and yon through the salons of Manhattan and Brooklyn, never satisfied with the results. Then I found Peter at Christopher Stanley. The color is natural but not dull, imaginative but not over the top, and (most important) always flattering. Highly recommended.

Peter really knows what he is doing. He is very easy to talk to and takes his time applying foils and explains exactly the process he is doing. Going to miss him when I move back to Ohio.

Peter is the only colorist in New York I have actually wanted to go back to after my first appointment. I finally have found someone who understands the perfect type of blonde that I love, and listened to what I wanted, as opposed to simply plopping their own generic version of bleached highlights into my hair. He weaved the perfect tones in beautifully, giving me the buttery baby blonde that I love and have been looking for all along! Finally!!

I'd been wanting to cut my long hair short and finally got the nerve! Mauricio did an amazing job and gave me a fantastic cut that I could not have been happier with! Peter does my color and that is no easy task! I constantly change my color and Peter has done a fantastic job of bringing my ideas to life! I'm totally addicted to Christopher Stanley Salon!

Peter did exactly what I wanted. I wanted to go darker than the over-process blond that I came in with. I had gone for a consultation to a salon a few doors down and they were going to single process me darker than my natural and that just didn’t seem right to me. So I left and passed Christopher Stanley Salon and decided to go in and see if I could get a consult there. I explained my situation and they immediately sent me to Peter – the best they said. He sat me down first and explained different approaches but told me that low-lights and some medium highlights would be the most healthy and natural way to go. He was right on! I had the most wonderful feeling as I sat with him and I made my appointment for the next day. I can’t tell you how happy I am with my new color and next week I’m seeing Maurico for my cut. While I may not have written many citysearch reviews I can vouch for the high ratings that Christopher Stanley recieves. After living in nyc for over three yrs I was still going back to Boston to get my hair cut. Finally, after realizing I was being ridiculous, I began searching for a new place to go. I origionally tried out the CS salon because I was impressed with the comments on city search. Mauricio is amazing. My first appointment was about a year ago and I have gone back ever since -- Mauricio is the only hairdresser I have ever had where I constanty get complimented on my cut.

I was reading reviews here and found it strange that most the reviewers had written only one review. The last highly reviewed salon I went too made my blonde hair yellow ! This salon also had 400+ positve reviews. Dont trust these reviews!

Reading all the reviews here on Citysearch I went To Christopher Stanley Salon.After some years with salons uptown-I found this wonderful salon-Mauricio was great! He knows curly hair and will give you a Great cut! The products are Natural and Healthy-you will Love your Hair!! Looking forward to a color with Peter!

I'm so happy I found the Christopher Stanley salon. Peter does the best highlights! I had been all over the place getting far less than good color for years until I found Peter at Christopher Stanley. I haven't been anywhere else since! Everyone is so nice and knowledgeable. I highly recommend!

Peter always gives me the best highlights that don't turn brassy. I always feel fantastic when I leave the salon, and the color always blends nicely when it grows out.

I've been to many colorists in the city and I have to say Karen is the best. My highlights are bright, but natural and full of subtle dimension. Karen is confident and fun and knows exactly what would look best on you.

Peter Ripley at the Christopher Stanley Salon in Manhattan is by far the most wonderful, most talented, kindest, sweetest, and BEST COLORIST I have ever been to. My hair feels healthier and looks the best it ever has. Go see him because you will not be disappointed.

I travel for these two men... and it's worth the time and the money. Not only are they talented but they are a wonderful team of love and humor. I know that should not be a part of why we go to our hair people, but it is such a big part of what these two men and this salon is all about. Talent and artistry beyond belief and then I receive warmth and wit on top of it all... it's a package I just cannot do without. I have VERY curly hair and Billy gave me the Keratin treatment. I enjoyed straight frizz-free hair all Summer long. I can’t even believe how fantastic it was. I use the shampoo and conditioner that they recommended and my hair has stayed straight for 2 months. I used to spend 30 minutes blowing my hair out – only to still have waves and frizz. I now spend 10 minutes and have perfect hair all day. Additionally, the salon is clean, relaxing and the staff is lovely. I would recommend Christopher Stanley and Billy to anyone!

I have somewhere between curly and wavey hair but not a lot of it so I wanted to be able to do it myself. I presented myself to Stanley who was so nice and easy to work with. He showed my how to do my hair, suggested where I might buy some great hair clips and how to take care of my very damaged hair. Next visit he turned me over to Peter who fixed the colour and again went over hair care with me. Peter made sure that when I left the salon, I was truly happy and so did Stanley. I then went back to Toronto where I followed their instructions and when I turned up three months later, I had, as Stanley had predicted nice undamaged hair. I would not let anyone but Stanley or Peter touch my hair for cut or colour again and for me that is a plane ticket.

Karen does the best blonde highlights of anyone I've been to in NYC. I highly recommend her and have never been disappointed with my color!

One night out at dinner two of my closest friends confronted me about my awful hair – especially the color. Now if I told you who had been doing my cut and color for the past 4 years you would be SHOCKED to hear the name (a very well known stylist, think Martha). But thank God I have good friends that FINALLY told me it did not look good. One of them told me about her colorist and the other told me about her cutter (I think that’s what you would call him) and by chance, they worked at the same salon (I later found out that they go together… how sneaky!). So off to Christopher Stanley Salon I go and fall in love with Peter and Mauricio. A few years ago I noticed white streaks rather than strands of gray growing in. I went to several colorists who didn't know what to make of my unusual situation, and carelessly dyed my hair jet black no matter what color I requested. When I found Christopher I was so thankful. He patiently took the time to test a patch of my hair before deciding on a plan. Christopher continues to experiment with different shades, highlights etc. It all looks amazing! Christopher is not just an expert problem solver, he's an artist, as well.

Terrific color by Karen after searching the city. Veronica has finally tamed my weird and unruly wave pattern. Couldn't be happier. The salon itself is lovely and the front desk folk are professional and welcoming. An all over delightful experience.

Peter gained my trust right away by suggesting changes from my previous color and a technique that would save me money. I got so many compliments after Peter "fixed" my color; it was amazing to me that so many people noticed the difference. He is also a very nice, friendly person, and I enjoy my visits with him. I've been going to Noelle for years now, and she is fabulously talented. She knows how to cut curly hair well, she listens to you and gives good suggestions, and she is totally without pretention and really fun. Both Peter and Noelle make a great team for my hair!

Needed a new perspective for my locks and read all of the amazing reviews and made my way down to see Noelle. She was very attentive and was very easy to talk to. The haircut is perfect...exactly what I asked for! I will be going back for many years to come! LOVE IT!

The Dynamic Duo team of Peter and Stanley is one everyone should try – take it from me, the original hair snob. I’ve seen them for a few months and each time I’ve been happier than I have ever been with my cut and color in years. Maria, the colorist, is by far the best colorist around!! She is attentive, detail-oriented and delivers exactly what you want. She does not over/up sell and really is fantastic -- so personable too!

I don’t regularly write reviews for anything - but I just had to write one about Peter Ripley and this salon. I have never in my life been more pleased with my hair color or a salon experience as I have been here. I walked in a bit anxious about having someone new do my hair, but was put in a place of calm serenity from the moment I walked up to the front desk - where the manager (or owner, I think) started telling me how wonderful Peter was and that I was in excellent hands. He directed me to all the write-ups about Peter in their window and to Cirysearch where I could read reviews about him. The moment I met my new colorist, I knew I was in for a wonderful experience. The junior colorist did an amazing job! He gave me exactly what I asked for and the price was very reasonable! I highly recommend Christopher Stanley.

After reading the reviews here on city search I decided to give the famed duo, Peter/Maurizio, a try. For the better part of a year now my hair has been it's healthiest. Peter is a perfectionist when it comes to getting the color right for you. He has a long history with dyeing and color in the textile field and all his experience perfectly culminates into being an awesome hair colorist. I'm a brunette- but people believe I'm a natural redhead. :) Maurizio will take into account the texture and health of your hair when consulting for your cut. The cut he gave me is so perfectly suited to my hair that I barely need to style it anymore unless i'm going for a specific look. Because I style it less it's gotten much healthier. I love the fact that I can now shower, put a small dollop of product in, and go. His cuts have allowed me to not only grow my hair, but have saved me time as well!

Maria is the best in the city for hair color. I found her several years ago, and have been hooked ever since. I was looking for hair color that was very natural. She is fantastic, she always listens to what I'm thinking and makes it happen.

I've bee a highlighted blode the majority of my life. Yet no one until Shane has been able to get just the right brightness without going too blonde and he's a doll to talk to as well. He's worth every penny.

Gotta tell ya... this guy is great! I've seen him a few times and it just gets better and better. Peter makes me laugh so that has something to do with it but really Ive never had such beautiful color - he really knows his stuff. My hair is healthier too... how that happens I don't know but then he sends me to Maurizio... best cut too. Where have these two been my whole life?

I have been going to get my color by Peter for a few years now, and he never disappoints. I like to have a nice blend of high and lowlights, and he makes it look sooo good. Highly highly recommended!!

I love the ashy color I've gotten from Peter. I've been to several salons in the city looking for a great colorist. I have dark hair and when I lighten it, it tends to get brassy. Sometimes bright orange! He did a great job on fixing all the different colors in my hair to one ashy brown color. As I was leaving the salon, I booked my next appointment!

Peter Ripley is by far the most talented hair colorist in town. I’ve been to the “so-called best” but I’m staying put with Peter who actually IS the best. He listened to me and gave me what I wanted. He was patient with me as I explained what I wanted (a huge change from my mousy blond) and he got the color that I showed him in a picture that I wanted… RIGHT ON THE MONEY! He explained what he was doing the whole time and I was never board… he’s very entertaining to boot! I highly recommend Peter for color and darling Mauricio for a cut. They make a great team.

I was recommended this place by a visitor. Perchance I walked in, and Noelle was available right at that moment for a cut and blow-dry. I loved her vibe, and she really understood my hair, which is fine and curly. I'm definitely going back!

Peter has been a godsend! I came to him with hair that was two different colors (growing out a bad dye-job) and he was able to blend them into one natural-looking color with highlights. Then later, when I needed the color tweaked a bit, he welcomed me with open arms and fixed it (for free!). He really listened and made sure that I got the look I wanted. Thanks, Peter!

I always have problems achieving the perfect blond, not here!!! I told Shane I usually pick up orange tones...he totally got my color! He is amazing! I have the perfect mix of highlights and low lights. I will never see anyone else again!

I asked a lady at work who does her color... she's coy and says it's natural... I know she's not being truthful, but I watch for 6 to 8 weeks and never see roots. So I ask again, "Really, who does your color? It's really amazing!". Finally she says, "It's natural... and I'll give you the name of the person who makes it look that way." I go to see Peter at this salon and fall in love. My non-descript brown hair turned into beautiful, shinny, dimensional rich brown that friends comment about now... and all I say is "It's natural!"... Peter Ripley is truly an brilliant artist with hair and I recommend him highly.

I have the kind of curly hair that everyone has always said "Oh, if I only had your curls" about. And finally, I know what they are saying. I've had my hair cut at the "curly hair" salons uptown -- you know who they are, and the one downtown. Uptown was tooo matronly, downtown was tooo snooty. But Stanley is just right! He knew exactly what I was looking for, and how to make it work for me. My hair is now easy, fun, funky and not frizzy. And, thanks to the salon's color training program, under Christopher's watchful eye, I have put down my root touch up brush and I let the pros keep my hair a luscious red brown. Now, whenever someone comments on my hair, I think "Thank you Christoper Stanley Salon."

Really great, friendly service, and without all of the pretention. Cool, minimalist decor. Would recommend to others.
