I went to Carmine's in NYC recently, and honestly, was treated like SH*T. We made reservations ahead of time. I asked if the restaurant was child friendly, which I was told, of course. When we got there, the food was sub par Italian cuisine, and I was told by the OWNER, that maybe I shouldnt have brought my child, who was behaving spectacularly. I couldnt believe it! I was so offended that I told the manager, who went on to tell me that the owner was an old kook, and not to pay attention to him. Overall, food stinks, wait staff and restaurant manager are EXCELLENT, but the owner S*CKS, and I wouldnt bother going there. Take the cab ride to Little Italy and get a real meal.

Great Italian at very reasonable prices. A friend and I dined here and split one platter as well as a bottle of wine and we left with money in our pockets as well as leftovers! Can't ask for much more in this expensive city!

My husband and I ate here recently. We figured it might be good since it was fairly busy for a weeknight but apparently this place is a hot spot for tourists. I don't see this place having a lot of return customers. We ordered a house red, which was hands-down the worst wine I've ever had. We noshed on mediocre bread and watery olive oil for another 40 minutes until our appetizer arrived, which consisted of bland stuffed mushrooms swimming in butter. Another 20 minutes later, our chicken & shrimp dinner arrived. The chicken was overcooked and the shrimp was not fresh. It had a fishy, overcooked, previously frozen taste. I would place my bets that our entire meal was microwaved and then covered in buttery sauces. We will never return and will not recommend it to anyone.

Being from Texas I was VERY much looking forward to having some great Italian food while in NYC. We stumbled across Tony's Di Napoli for dinner and I'm so glad we did! Excellent family style food, great atmosphere, excellent service, and very friendly and helpful staff. The chicken and eggplant was outstanding as was the tortellini. The calamari was also some of the freshest I've ever had. Excellent desserts. We were celebrating 2 birthdays within our group, and when the matradee found out he came over and personally sang happy birthday to us. He had such a great voice we requested more so he serenaded my grandmother with a beautiful song...which she is still talking about! Highly recommend this restaurant for great food with reasonable prices, and outstanding customer service!

I am a huge fan of family style dining. The one thing is you will have to order your meats and pasta separately. This is a great experience,...

Do not eat at this restaurant. We went to the Upper East Side location and found a 2-inch nail in our olive oil bread dip. The staff was apologetic and told us that the nail probably came from a fish tank (kept above their pre-mixed vat of olive oil spread). One, their olive oil spread is pre-mixed and kept in a vat? Two, this vat is kept below a fishtank? Disgusting. When the manager came over to speak to us, he was unbelievably rude and stated that we should not worry about the olive oil since we had not technically paid for the starter course. Needless to say, we left and will not return.

Carmine's was booked solid, so we came here instead to celebrate my birthday. The shrimp scampi appetizer was my favorite for the night. We also ordered a ceasar salad (too much lemon!!!), the fried calamari was average. For entrees we ordered linguine with white clam sauce (average), chicken picata (average), and the sirloin with roasted potatoes (average). Dessert was not good at all. Service lacked. We had to ask for olive oil three times before the waitress brought it over and my daughter requested a candle in the dessert for my birthday and forgot it. I would skip this place and wait for a table at Carmines.

I order from here all the time, cause of the pick of decent average priced restaurants in the area is less then desirable. It also happens to be crazy delicious. My personal favorites are the ziti and veal dishes. I didn't like the mushroom appetizer.

We chose to go to Tony di Napoli because we needed a place to have a reunion with friends we haven't seen for 25 years. We were blessed by delicious food, a cheerful service and a spacious and round table to catch up for the 25 years gap. The place is friendly and not noisy, so we actually were able to chat, laugh and listen to each other. The fettuccini Alfredo tasted like my grandma's and the veal Marsala was was perfect. The generous portions felt like home and the apotheotic Tartufo in the end was a sweet ending. The waiters were kind and sensitive enough not to rush us out after we finished the meal, and we were able to keep enjoying each others' presence around the table long after we paid the check. We will definetly come back.

Sorry to hear that some reviewer had such horrible experience of this place, I don't know why but I had a blast. I had my wife surprise birthday dinner there on Sat. and we had such a good time and the foods were just to die for. Our waitress was friendly, accomondating and she was the icing on the cake for our first time visiting and trying this place. The food, we had the night special, loster and crab rovioi and it was to die for. YOU taste the loster and crab meat, not one of those grounded to a paste kind of stuffing. Even my picky 2 years old were able to enjoy the food we ordered. The eggplant was great, soft and creamy. The chicken parm was so soft and tender we can cut it with a spoon. The veal need some work. We ordered like 9 different dishes and the only neg thing we have to say is the veal was tougher then we throught but everything else were wonderful. I will definitely recommend this place to everyone and it will be my regular joint when ever we have a large gathering. ... Read more

I eat out in NYC often and have had dinner at many Italian restaurants in the city. I have been dining out in NYC for almost nine years and I have never had such an awful Italian meal. The Food: We ordered chicken piccata and the baked ziti. The chicken piccata was horrible - absolutely no taste and made without any capers. We actually had to ask for slices of lemon to squeeze on the chicken along with lots of salt and pepper to give it any flavor. The baked ziti was just horribly bland. We originally tried to order the manicotti and were told that they no longer serve it but still have it listed on the wall menu. Staff: The restaurant staff do not communicate with each other. Halfway through our meal the manager asked if he could move me because they had a large party coming in and they didn't want me to be in the way. Now with my meal in front of me and my child sitting on my lap they want to move me -- the manager and the hostess should have realized that they had suc... Read more

The portions are for 2-4 people, the tomato sauce tastes horrible, the pasta was overcooked, and the calamari was soggy. Bad experience with the food overall.

Ordinarily we order out from this establishment but really the Chicken Scarpiello (bone in) alone is reason enough to venture forth to the brick and mortar place itself. The pasta is always good...I'm partial to the ravioli in Marinara....but recommend you stay away from the Fetuccini alfredo (it's disgusting and cardboard like). The Eggplant Parm is excellent too! It gets super crowded on the weekends so make reservations and expect to wait anyway!

This place is more like a family style restaurant where they serve big portions of food that is meant to be shared. I am totally in love with their fried mozarella...it is so good! The penne with marinara sauce was also excellent. The pasta was cooked al dente, just the way I like it. The chicken entree(I forget the name) was somewhat dry though, but that didn't bother me. I would still go back. Service is nothing to complain about.

I have been to Tony's with 2 or three people a number of times, and I've also hosted a large surprise party here. Every experience is New York to the teeth-good food and a good time. The party was incredible. Phenomenal, beautifully presented food in the usual quantities and service that would have done justice to a 4 star hotel. ( I've worked for a number of them so I feel qualified to determine what good service means). I tip my hat to Tony's.

Tony's is just a wonderful place to have a great meal, especially if you are a tourist, and want a big NY meal. It's classic, family Italian food (I grew up with the classic big Italian family), located in Midtown, close to Times Square. If you want an intimate, candle-lit dinner for two, this is not your place. Otherwise, you really cannot go wrong here. I stop at Tony's every time I'm in New York on business. Special Tip: Like any Manhattan restaurant, it fills up quickly. The best spot if you are by yourself or just with one other person is to cozy up to the bar and eat your meal there. Full menu available, great bartenders and friendly crew. Have the spaghetti with house marina and a side of meatballs, washed down with a nice Merlot or a couple of Peroni's...it gets no better!

When you go to Tony's, instead of fare like chicken parmigiana and penne ala vodka, opt for their gorgeous steaks which can be sliced and easily shared, and anything with seafood. Their lobster is one of the best values in Manhattan. Also, I was pleasantly suprised to find such an in depth wine list, bth in quality and value. Our waiter told us he knew all the wines on it quite well, and he did! We went with his reccomendation and and were pleased beynd belief!!

I've lived in this neighborhood for years and know to avoid this place. However, I was in two circumstances with friends where I ate here in the last two months. The food is awfully bland and a disgrace to Italian cuisine. If forced, your best bet is the eggplant and sausage & peppers. The wine list and pasta are the WORST in NYC! The service is incompetent. Each time, they forgot to bring out 2 dishes, yet they were on the bill, and one time brought us out dishes we didn't order. At least they were apologetic about the bill and fixed it with no hassle. They're also ill-knowledgable about wine and cuisine. There is also an overwhelming B&T presence.

What an exceptional way to end my last night in New York. The food is exceptional, the service was excellent. Where else in New York can you stop in without reservations and get a table for six within minutes? Hat's off to our waiter - I think he enjoyed our East Tennessee hospitality:) Highly recommend for tourists it will be an experience you want soon forget.

Went there on a busy night. We felt like cows with the cowboy waiters moving us "in & out" as soon as possible. It seemed that the chef was in a big hurry too, because our salad came with our entrees, AT THE SAME TIME !! I don't know, people tell me good things about this place, but it was such a bad experience that I don't think I'll be back for another round.

well, if you ever find youself in a position where you have to get a table for like 16 people the night before, try tony's. the food is average, the place is loud, but i mean... where else can you get a table that large the night before in nyc?

The atmosphere is definitely family-style, the portions are huge (usually each platter serves 2-3 people), but the food is fairly bland. (I am vegetarian, so perhaps it's just the veggie platters). However, for the same price range, you can find higher quality food and a more attentive staff in the area. The restaurant is almost the entire block long and as such the service is not as personal.

The Scene With a flaming red awning stretching almost the entire length of its block, it's hard to miss this place. Inside, the look and feel is a little corporate, but the staff is aggressive in its companionable attention. The restaurant is essentially designed for large groups; couples and small parties may feel outgunned. The Food The menu lists the usual Italian-American roster of deep-fried appetizers, saucy pastas and oversized slabs of meat. Portions are mammoth, and that's the attraction. Linguine, soaked in the ultra-sweet house marinara and dotted with seafood, is fine but unexciting. Ziti Bolognese is baked in a similar sauce, with ground meat mixed in and cheese melted on top--the menu offers many variations on this theme. "Tony's famous" pair of sirloin steaks are broiled with an herb dressing; these are good steaks, expertly cooked, but overwhelmed with salt and oil. Desserts are colossal and fairly dull.

I've been here several times with large groups and also with just one other person and everytime was excellent. For the price I do not see why people are leaving bad comments on the service. The food is always good, portions are very large(always plan on a doggy bag), and the overall cost is relatively inexpensive. I can see why sometimes people feel the service is lacking but what could you expect when 70% of the customers are part of a large group? Of course the service will be slow at times when the waiters are helping each other out by delivering the dinners to each table as it ready to be served. Tony's DiNapoli, while it isn't the most extravagent restaurant in NY, it is always good and always a pleasure to visit - to put it bluntly - its the best deal for Italian in NY.

The food is excellent and inexpensive! (2 people can eat one dish at least!) So far in the comments no one has mentioned what I consider the highlight of the restaurant... the frozen peach bellini. They are amazing! If you have never had one, try one! If oyu have had one try this one, they are the best!!

We went here for my sisters Bacchelorette party with 9 girls. It was so easy to plan a group event here with a prix fix menu. We all loved the food, which was endless. Our server was so helpful and nice, he even took lots of pictures for us without a problem. By the end of the night we were all trying to plan another event so we can come back! This place is great for having a really fun time with a group of people. The calamari and mozzarella en corroza are the best!!

We went for my sister-in-law's bachelorette party. They seated us as soon as we arrived, even though we were very early. We had set up the prix-fix to make it easier. The drinks flowed freely, the food seemed to never end, the server was attentive, and the ambiance was great. They even sent us home with enough leftovers to feed several people the next day! I would recommend this place, but not if you're looking for a quiet romantic meal!

I've gone to Tony's before due to the great food and service. So I decided to have my Bridal Shower there in Feb. 2003. The waiter was very attentive and courtious. The food was great and nothing was rushed up until dessert. All of a sudden, there was a waitress hovering over the table and rudely put balloons on our table that belonged to another party. As the waitress cleaned the table in a rush she knocked over a party bag containing a glass bottle with bath oil. She picked it up and moved it out of her way. My friend picked up the bag and the oil spilled on her suede pants. The manager apologized and promised to take care of the cleaning bill but that was it. The waitress didn't even apologize. The food was good but this was unnecessary. Good food doesn't make up for rude service.

Tony's is a great place to go on a date or with family. The food is served family style and even then, you wind up with a "doggie bag". Although copious, the food itself is good (not excellent). The appetizers are almost all fried or seafood. The eggplant rollatine was delicious as were the Tuscan-style steaks. (45.00 for 2 LARGE NY Strip steaks plus veggies.)

I've been to Tony Di Napoli 3 times so far and always have a good time. It's always a busy place, though the service is always very good. It's also not expensive. The food is good and plentiful. It's good to go with a group if you can as the food is family style though you don't have to. The first time we went was for New Year's and we had a blast as they gave out party hats, horns, etc. I always have fun here and will definitely go back again.

This place is a lot of fun to eat with a group or if you are especially hungry. The food is good, not amazing, but for the price and the amount they serve, it is worth it. Both entrees we ordered were very flavorful and good and the service is great. The waiter was extremely helpful and very nice. This restaurant is great and I would recommend it for groups or families with kids. It is also just an informal, fun place to eat.

Great Ragotini w/Egglplant and Mozzarella!!!!! Service was prompt, and courteous. If you dont have children, keep in mind you wont enjoy a "ROMANTIC" dinner for two! Family restaurant = Babies, Toddlers and Kids! All in all, food is good and I'll be sure to return during the day, when school is in session.

Even though everyone I talk to raves about the food and this restaurant, both my experiences here have been highly dissapointing. The food is decent, too commercialized Italian food, and very verylarge portions, which ca end up being very expensive if you are not up for sharing and ordering wisely. Its a great place to go for kid's birthday parties and large group evens, however, dont le the never ending line out the block mislead you.
