I used to go to this place, but when the new old guy manny came he ruined the place, he charges the money first, doesn't let you talk and he curses a lot, he also treats you bad.

I have always had a wonderful experience a Wilfred's and I have asked Manny to "remake" many of my suit pants. It is always a pleasurable experience. I have to admit the prices are on the expensive side, but I always find it's worth the money.

I was very surprised to see all the bad reviews here. I have consistently received great service at Wilfred's. My clothing is always ready on time and I have never been dissatisfied with their work. Whenever I go shopping, my next stop is Wilfred's to have pants shortened (the price of being short...). I have also had the sleeves shortened on suit jackets and oxfords and I have had the waist taken in for both a pair of jeans and a blazer. I can always trust Manny for honest advice on whether something needs to be altered. Frequently his response is to leave it as is. Even though Wilfred's closed their East Village location that was much closer to my apartment, I couldn't dream of not trekking all the way up to 23rd street. I enthusiastically recommend Wilfred's.

These guys are magicians!! And they are super sweet. I bought in a dream wedding dress that I had found at a sample sale to be taken in by 31/2 sizes!! The dress had boning and the fabric was a very delicate silk organza, talk about a challenge. I brought in my wedding dress to RAMON after a highly acclaimed tailor shop that charged more than twice as much told me that they could not guarantee to get all of natural creases that would form at the waste. Ramon didn?t waste any time chit chatting, simply pointed me to the fitting rooms, brought me to the mirror and began putting pins in and making marks. He simply said I know what has to be done and when do you need it by. The result was outstanding, as if it had been made for me. The fit was so good that I didn?t even have to wear a bra and being a C cup, that for me, is unheard of. In addition he had the patience of a saint accommodating to my requests in an honest way and did not let me take it home until he felt it was perf... Read more

The first time I went to Wilfred's, they left a blue pen mark on the lapel of a beige jacket. I thought it was a one time mistake, so I gave them another chance. I brought in a pair of pants, but when I got them back, they had a hole in them. And it still didn't fit!

Save your money take your clothing to the local dry cleaner. I brought two pairs of jeans in on Wednesday afternoon. I was told that they would be ready on Saturday by noon. Called Saturday to confirm that the alterations were complete. The tailor said that they were ready. I Went down to Wilfred's. They were not ready. He said sorry that he had told me that the jeans had been altered but he was busy. Thanks because I really enjoy taking time off work to for someone else's busy schedule. On the positive side he said he would have them delivered. He did so. After the delivery I looked at the hem on the jeans. Both pairs looked as if though they had been sewn by a 4th grade Home Economics student. The stitch was too wide and went up and down like a wave across the bottom of the jeans. One pair had the wrong color stitch. I brought them back and asked for both the hems to be fixed. Another 45 minutes of work lost. While I was there two other customers were complaining. On... I have to disagree with the negative reviews. I have been going there for a few years now, and have had nothing but extremely positive results. In fact, they have done some complicated alterations that uptown, extremely high-end tailors have refused to do. I have NEVER had an issue with bad or delayed results. I recommend Wilfred's to all my friends and have never, once, heard a complaint

I usually disregard reviews thinking that someone had a onetime bad experience, but I should have believed the reviewers on this occasion. Please believe this! I went to Wilfred and not only were the prices high, but the service was TERRIBLE. The two weeks to get my jacket relined ended up being a month (no exaggeration). When I called on the day it was initially due they hadn't even begun work on my jacket and didn't even have the fabric to reline it in-house. Once I finally picked it up, the job was botched and they had to redo it. NOT ONLY THAT, after having the jacket only two weeks the lining ripped because the fabric they used was cheep. What a nightmare!!! RUN THE OTHER WAY!

They are overpriced, inconsistent, and always late. I went back and forth a total of five times; they did an awful job in tailoring my clothes, and I seriously regret even paying them for the job. Every time I went there (when they told me to come) the job was not done, and the tailoring job looked very last minute; they even had the nerve to call me and an hour before pick-up (after the third trip) and leave a message saying I "cannot pick up the clothes because they were not done". They are nice, but definitely not worth the very expensive price I forced myself to pay and the multiple trips along with the very delayed timing. Please do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

Never gets stuff done on time...its ridiculous. I finally got fed up with their delays...took a jacket to Wilfreds that they couldnt finish in the 10 days they said it would be done....meanwhile took another jacket to a tailor around the block who did an even better job (and far more work) in two days!! It's just not worth the poor customer service.

Wilfreds is the absolute worst tailor in the city. They are never on time, I have to go there multiple times to pick up items that I am told will be ready. Recently, I brought in a few items that I needed to bring on vacation with me, and after being promised that they would be ready within a week, when I returned to pick them up they were of course not ready. No one who works there cares if their customers are unsatisfied, the staff has a horrible attitude, and I don't know how this tailor plans on staying in business in a city where there are so many good, reliable places to go to. Do yourself a favor and NEVER go to Wilfreds

Ramone, a brilliant taylor at Wilfred's, totally saved the day for me! I was to be the maid of honor in my bestfriend's wedding, meaning lots of attention and photos. She had chosen dresses from a "bridemaid's mill" and I had paid for alterations before picking the dress up 13 days prior to the wedding. The "alterations" turned out to be more like demolition of the dress. The breast darts were near the shoulders, the criss-cross that was supposed to fall under the breasts was now up near the arm pits, the back was too tight and the hem was in the wrong place. I was in a total panic. I found Wilfred's on-line and went there with 12 days to go and very little hope of salvaging this dress. As soon as he saw me in the dress, and without a word from me, Ramone began pinning corrections into the dress. When he was done pinning he looked at me sadly, informing me that, though he felt he could fix the dress, it couldn't be accomplished in the time allotted. It was a very busy time for alte... My boyfriend recommended that I go to Wilfreds, since he used their services about 5 years ago, and was happy. I needed to get a dress done for my brothers wedding. The job was pretty simple-to take off a couple of inches on the sides of the bottom of the dress. A guy at the desk told me to put on the dress for a fitting. After I came out of the fitting room, he grabbed the sides of the dress, and told me that he knows what to do, without even measuring it, or putting any pins!!! I was confused and asked him- how will he take it down, if he is has not measured it? At this moment the door opened and another woman walked in. She was extremely upset, and was saying to the guy that it was the 3rd time she came in, and her suit was returned unfinished. The guy ignored her, and told me that I owed him 60 dollars. On the receipt ticket he wrote ?Take one half off?. Needless to say, I took my business elsewhere and will never return. Awful customer service, incompetence and laziness. Did Wilfr... Read more

I have been using Wilfred Tailor for over 4 years. When meeting with Wilfred you are in luck. He is charming, professional and quick to the task. His staff could use some schooling. On one instance I waited 15 minutes for someone to come to the desk - only to find the tailor with his zipper undone and eating lunch. On my last visit on April 26th it took 25 minutes wait to get fitted - and 15 minutes wait to pick up clothing. They scrambled around to find what clothes I had tailored (apparently my ticket-receipt did not matter to them) only to get home and realize one pair of pants was completely CUT UP and not tailored. I get better service at my local dry-cleaner. At least they finish the job.

I can't believe the people that had a bad experience with Wilfred tailor's went to the same place I did. The people there are the nicest and most professional. I have been there many times and always had a great experience. Their work is the best I've seen.

Great work! Guys been open for 17 years now and their skill shows that their qualified experience tailors. Went in there to get alterations and came out in a new suit :) its funny how that works. Meet the owner and realized that he really cares for his customers and has the advice you need to look your best. I was impressed that I wasn't pressured to buy anything and it really made the experience great. Thanks for the great look guys and keep up the good work.

I had a similar experience to another reviewer here. I brought in a winter coat to be altered - a fairly straight forward job. It was not ready on time (no one called to tell me), and when it was ready days later the sleeves were completely different lengths. They took 3 more days to "fix" the sleeves, which resulted in both arms being way too short. No one working there seemed to care about the bad service and sloppy workmanship, they actually said "these things happen." I will never go back.

I took a $1500 suit in to get tailored. I don't think that they could have botched it up any more than they did. Nothing was right and the didn't perform the alterations correctly. They are VERY expensive, which would be fine if they are as good as they should be. They took the wide-shoulder hanger that my suit came on and returned my suit on a wire hangar without even the cardboard supports that a dry cleaner uses. Very embarassing for them. They should be ashamed. The funniest part is that when I took the suit back, they acted like they were doing me a favor. Wilfred himself came out and tried to charge me anouther $50 to fix the suit, and then had the guts to say, "I am doing you a favor for not charging you for these adjustments. I usually do. So, you need to pay the $50 to get the sleeves fixed." Right. Stay as far away as possible!

They are good at easy jobs like hem. But not for difficult jobs like sleeves, shoulders etc. Some workers' skills are less than average. They handle lots of clothes everyday. Some jobs get sloppy. If you have important clothes, don't bring it there.

I went to get 3 pairs of pants and a dress hemmed. First off, the woman at the front desk is an absolutely awful woman. She was completly rude and unhelpful and told me it would take them almost 2 weeks to have my things ready. When I went back, not only had they not worked on my order, but they didn't call me to tell me not to come in to pick it up, and were acting like it was my fault! I had to wait there for 45 minutes while they did the alterations. To top it off, they lost one of my pairs of pants. The work they did was average. The whole expierence was a nightmare. You couldn't pay me enough to ever give them any more business.

I've been satisfied with Wilfred's before, but after a terrible experience I'll never go back. I needed a suit fitted for my brother's out-of-town wedding, and everything went badly. It wasn't ready on time, so my fiancee had to pick it up after I left town. The sleeves were an inch short, so I had to find a tailor on the wedding day. Wilfred's alterations didn't leave enough fabric in the sleeves, so the suit will never fit properly. When I told Wilfred that I paid him $120 for a suit that wasn't on time and didn't fit, he blamed me for not calling him to do the sleeve-work (even though I couldn't have). Then he said he was busy with other customers and walked away. It was bad enough to be out the cost of the alterations (and the suit), but worse that Wilfred couldn't have cared less.

This was one of the worst NY experiences. The staff made it an awful experience-rude, careless, unhelpful. I brought in a dress for an event and they spelled out what they would do for alterations. I came back days later to try it on and found horrible mistakes. They ruined it to the point that I won't be able to return it and try to at least get hard-earned money back. They took an entirely different route with alterations that made it unwearable. Didn't bother to call me and let me know. I stood speechless, and they had nothing to say, except "you should have assumed that this would be the second course of action." I am not a tailor! How am I to assume? They couldn't even muster an "I'm sorry." They stood there with smirks. Please take your clothes elsewhere. You can't put your faith in these people.

Perhaps it's because I was not fitted by Wilfred himself, but my entire experience with this tailor was horrendous. My clothes were not finished when promised, they did not make the alterations we discussed and the finished product on my 4 pieces definitely left something to be desired. The staff was rude and did not show any interest in even trying to appear helpful. (I thought it odd when they did not even offer to alter 2 pieces that clearly needed it -- but I witnessed another customer who became enraged with their same flippant attitude toward him). When my clothes were finally finished, they were handed back to me in a flimsy clear plastic bag that did not even cover the entire suit jacket without any comment (or apology). There have to be better tailors out there, give them a chance before you go here.

Expensive, but well worth it. This place won't botch up any of your clothes and will even make sure that the fit is perfect post-hemming. Excellent customer service and friendly people to work with. I trust them, despite the steep prices.

Wilfred and his other tailors are The Best in the business. I tailor ALL of my clothes - no expense spared. And Wilfred is the only one I will go to. He tailors clothes on behalf of the most expensive and fashionable stores in the city. He creates suits for blockbuster movies and tv shows. And he evens does work for a few celebrities. However, walk in off the street and you'll be treated the same way - as if you are his one and only customer. Trust Wilfred - I do!

A terrific place, and Wilfred is amazing. Bought expensive men's clothing that I never wore because they just didn't fit properly, but Wilfred tailored them to perfection. Moderate prices, and the payoff is beautiful clothes that fit perfectly. Also custom makes pants and suits!
