I don't believe that there is such a thing as a perfect church and as I have heard many times, if you find one don't bother attending because you'll ruin it. I have attended calvary chapel for about 5 years now and have found that it is a great place to grow, we have a very diverse group of people and as far as being rigid goes, there's too many pastors out there these days who don't revere God's word and are 'relaxed' in what it has to say. I don't want to be lied to and have verses sugar coated so I'm comfortable with my sin, I want to be walking with Jesus 100% in truth and in action. Calvary chapel may not be for everyone but if you want a church that dedicated to serving the Lord instead of impressing men..start here. P.S. calvary chapel houston worship rocks! :) Love well!

Revision to clarify I am in no way saying they do not allow diversity just that I did not see much of it in the CC's I visited. I have visited many Calvary Chapels and love the way they teach from the bible. CC's are known for their great, simplistic teaching style, which must have trickled from the top down from founder Chuck Smith. All the ones I've visited go through the bible chapter by chapter and verse by verse without jumping all over the place. I 'm mostly against jumping all over the place. Taking a single verse out of the chapter can change the entire meaning. I've always thought it important to keep the consistency and continuity of the message without butchering it by tying one part somewhere else in the middle of another unrelated chapter to make it fit where it's not supposed to. Jumping around in scriptures is a poor habit that explains why so many Christians are susceptible to error in understanding the entire theme and message. Calvary Chapel Pastors do a very th... I love Calvary Chapel. I've been a member there for many years now. I'm sorry that Texas817 feels the way she does, but she has taken several things out of context. Thank you to FreeSpeech for putting things BACK into context. CCFW is a place where the people there continually show that Love Never Fails (1 Corinthians 13:8). It's not a perfect church. No church is. CCFW is made up of people who love the Lord and want to serve Him. I love that Pastor Bill teaches line on line through the Bible. I love that when he preaches, he's knowledgeable, sincere, passionate, compassionate, witty, and most of all what you see is what you get, kind of man. He's the same man in person as he is in the pulpit. He has a big heart that stretches for the orphans in Mexico, the people in his congregation (past and present), and for the lost. I hope that people looking for a church don't base their decision on one or two bad reviews, but will be led by the Lord in their decision/desire to ch... Read more

All I can say is WOW.....The internet is a place that anything can be stated about anybody without any accountability. I too was at Calvary during that Sunday service. If motivating the hearts of people to give to indigent and orphaned children in the drug riddled regions of Mexico is asking for too much, I pray that you never fall prey to poverty and need someone to raise a few funds for you and your family. May the Lord have mercy on you and yours. Secondly, any decent computer-aided Bible program would allow anyone to look up all 6,960 references to God in a matter of minutes. I am appalled that you find this such a feat. And just because you may not have had any creditor call you and make such statements, does that give you the right and liberty to call someone a liar, without knowing anything about them? I can understand if the preacher lied about something that pertains to the word of God, but how you have judged this person, is an awful example that has no merit. Though I h... Read more

Creepy is the word I use to describe my visit to Calvary Chapel Fort Worth, TX (Haltom). The pastor (Bill Quinn) does not seem sincere and his "message" was a wandering mess. Money seems to be a motivating factor for this pastor as he spent the first five minutes talking about money and mentioned money again several times during the sermon. Other concerns: Bill Quinn stated that "yesterday" he looked up all 6,960 references to God in the Bible. Really?? He also stated that the church's creditors call to tell them they don't have to pay their bills immediately and that they have 30 days to pay. Really?? When has a creditor, utility company, etc. ever called a customer to tell them they do not need to pay the invoice immediately upon receipt? It is okay to tell stories to get a point across but to tell outright lies during a sermon is not acceptable. Another couple (also visitors) left the sanctuary at 11:20 (25 minutes into the sermon) and they were followed out of the sanctua... Read more

You will never find a heretic ever coming out of a Calvary Chapel because Calvary Chapel Pastors teach straight from the bible with no nonsense or hidden agenda for material gain. If you want to seriously have help learning your bible through and through they are the best teachers among any Christian Fellowship around. They spend time dissecting and rightly dividing the word of God as we have been instructed in the New Testament. The only reason I did not give them a 5 star is they are a little too rigid and solemn, this could be mistaken for joyless. I have talked to others as a comparison and they agree. I also tried several Calvary Chapels, all seem to be the same. I made the mistake of inviting my friends who lean more toward the Pentecostal type. Soon I realized it was a big mistake as they said Amen and said thank you Jesus too much. This had me on pins and needles, & the whole service could not relax, expecting the Ushers to come and tell them to quiet down. Thankfully they g... Read more

I know a lot of churches and religions, but I don't have the foggiest notion what this gaggle professes.

I have recently been saved and was baptized by a Calvary Chapel. It is AMAZING! The people are great and so friendly. The service is so exciting! You know it is a good thing when you sit at work on a Monday and can't wait for Wednesday Worship/Bible Study..and better yet Sunday Worship :-)!!!!

(chuckle) People with Calvary stickers on their cars always cut me off in traffic and make obscene gestures at me. That's some mighty fine Christian morality there, kids.

I attended a Calvary Chapel for the first 9 years after I became a believer. They are a good place for a newbie Christian to learn the ropes and the Bible. But alas, they suffer from the Peter Pan syndrome in that you never grow up there! They will not be challenged in their doctrinal diversions, and so you must agree to disagree else you will be advised to go somewhere else. When tongues showed up during the pastor's prayer at the Lord's Table, I decided it was time to leave. I would like to be able to say I found a better place, but I have not. Its too bad really because I met some very godly people when I was there - most of whom are not there any longer either.

A true Assembly of God Church does not believe in the Word of Faith doctrine, at least the one I attend does not. I am not familiar with the Calvary Church, but I like the name.
