Enkidu is right on this one, the USSR is gone now and that was the only true chance of nuclear war. She is also right with the India-Pakistan situation. Two 3rd world countries could doom the world.

Somewhat less likely than it was twenty years ago (I'm not complaining), but a big enough exchange would do the job. Even a "little" one, say between India and Pakistan, would cause enough climate change and famine to be catastrophic, especially in southeast Asia.

If I rated this based only on its likelyhood I'd rate it a 2 at best. Full scale nuclear war is mostly a memory after the cold war defeat of the USSR. A rogue nation or religious state might use one eventually but I cannot imagine it would be on a large scale. I do personally believe that a nuclear device of some kind WILL be detonated by one of these extremist groups on US soil. When that happens the world will think the US invasion of Iraq was a blessing. I hope something like this never happens especially on a global scale. The aftermath would be the worst of all items listed in my opinion.

About Nuclear War
Being the most destructive creature on earth it is no surprise man has devised a method by which all men can be killed. With so many psychos within reach of tape and tnt, is it only a matter of time before one figures out a way to detonate a copy of mans "greatest" achievement?
