Went to try Gui for the first time tonight and take advantage of their $20 unlimited roll special. I am a big fan of Blue Fish, but always like to try out new sushi places when I can. There were two of us and we were handed a menu with a selected list of rolls available for the Tuesday night special. There was also a section on the menu that read the rules for the night as follows: 1. no left over food (will charge full menu price) 2. we charge each person 3. no take out 4. must spread out the word 5. don't get too drunk 6. no drink and drive 7. don't get stomach ache To me these rules seemed silly and not serious. We even laughed about them when we were ordering. We continued to order five rolls from the menu. None of the rolls were exceptional. We finished dinner by eating 4 1/2 of the rolls. We had 3 peices of one of the rolls left from our entire order. This place charged us full price for the entire roll which ended up being $17. I could not believe this place. We wer... Read more

Hi all, this is the place when you are looking for excelent sushi and korean dishes. No better place to take whoever you care about in your life. Beautiful inside, excellent food and customer service! Big thanks to the owner, one of the sushi chefs that made us feel like home... Highly recommended!

I went to Gui for the first time today. I like to feel out a sushi restaurant the first time I go by ordering the standard rolls - in this case, California, spicy tuna, Philadelphia, and shrimp tempura. I found that in Dallas, the quality of those rolls are indicative of the remainder of the menu. The first 3 were average and the shrimp tempura roll was way below average. The service - the waiter and waitress that I had were less than enthusiastic. A couple of guys working at the sushi bar seemed pretty cool though. There is no reason to go to Gui in a city that has Sushi Sake, Tei Tei, Fuse, Blue Fish and even Fish and Sushi Zushi all of which are much better than this restaurant . I wouldn't recommend Gui at all.

I have only been to Gui four times, but it is amazing <3! The price is right for the kind of taste and display for the food. The sushi is presented as an art piece, making me sad when I have to eat it since it looked really pretty. Out of all the sushi restraunts I have been to, this one has to have the most fresh fish. The service at Gui though is probably the best part. Everyone is friendly and I am surprised by how well the staff remember me, even if it has been a month or two. Kevin, the owner, is always nice and treats me very well with my family and friends. About the parking issue though, it may seem small in the front but there is a sign that says parking in the back, which is a pretty big size so I don't see why people are complaining about that issue. This restraunt though is probably my favorite restraunt of all time and I plan to go back very soon <3! Fighting~! I went to Gui on Friday night and the sushi was outstanding. They have signature rolls they make that are really unique, but watch out for the "house sauce" if you don't like anything hot & spicy. They also have a great selection of sake and offer happy hour specials after 10:00p.m.

The food was impeccable!! My husband and I would visit Gui over and over again. The atmosphere was entrancing and the service was faultless. The pomagranite martini was a perfect quench for thirst after the spicy fare. I would recommend Gui over any other for sushi seekers and the adventurous at heart.

I went to Gui with my friends and I had one of the actually best times in a long time...I have seen lot of Japanese restaurants being opened this area in uptown; but have never had the experience that i had there like nowhere else....Servers had kept mentioning about the days other than the Tuesdays, so i tried it with my friends and WE HAD BLAST LAST FRIDAY>... If you don't go, go elsewhere where you can get some $1 sushi or something....Remember...It's only a buck.....Think about what you getting with a dollar and a RAW FISH...RAW fish for a BUCK???

I had to write this review after having dinner at Gui today. This was my third time there and the service was a big disappointment each and every time. Alton was my waiter twice and he was very slow and forgetful but then I noticed the others are not as good either. The sushi buffet is a joke!! They tell you to only order 2-3 rolls at a time and when you wanted to order a second round the wait time is like another another. To have dinner there will take three hours and leaving still hungry. I believe they make their money selling drinks meanwhile making people wait for their sushi "buffet". You will probably drink more liquor there than you would be eating sushi and that is exactly what they want. The food is above average however the service is downright poor. I hope they get their act together before they will go out of business like the last restaurant there.

I went on a date to this restaurant with beautiful lighted tree outside absolutely made it feel like I was in LA or NY or something, because the restaurant was like a little city with full of great staffs...Soon as we walked in, the staffs and the owner greeted us like we were their regulars, and that's all how it started.... Food, drinks, and service was ....OH MY GOD!!!! Amazing....We had tried couple of rolls and entree from the Korean menu...Tony almost made a menu for us...I completely trusted his recommendations and told him to bring me what's good there, and he did it way more than as if I had ordered myself...All the staffs were very friendly and all kept stopping by to see if we were okay. Gui was just a little better version of Teppo...Price was way less than what we got...We expected like over $200 for 2 people, but the bill was under$140... What I paid for was way more than worth...Highly recommended, and I will be there this Saturday... KEEP IT UP GUYS...YOU GUYS WiLL be Bl... Read more

I am obligated to tell you about this place. It is sooooo great here, that I recommend Gui to anyone who loves sushi, marinated and barbecued meats, and or vegetarian food. I enjoyed the poki cake(tuna tower at other places), the green salad( I always ask for the mustard-soy dressing),the what a pork( spicy marinated and barbecued tender pork), and poochi poochi( sparkling unfiltered sake!).Alton is one of the servers there and he does a marvelous job at catering to your every need. I always ask for him when I want to dine at Gui. The specialty sushi rolls are the best in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!! Once again Alton shined brightly in pointing out that the samurai roll and the unbelievable roll were the top rolls on the menu. He was right. Gui just started a happy hour that is wonderful, so go try it out.

The lunch bento box was the best I have ever had! I am unsure what they do to the tempura but it was outstanding! I had the pork meat and a roll that was outstanding as well. Even the salad dressing on the side was outstanding! This is a must try! Sushi, and korean... who would have thought? It is a fantastic fusion and really one of the best I have had in quite some time. The pictures on this site do noting for this place, it is actually quite stunning, go see for yourself! Tell them Betty sent you :)

Poki Cake: You see this tower on your plate, perfect, so pretty you dont want to touch it! Your belly takes over and you have to have it! Let the server mix it for you! He or she will do it perfectly! I've gone to this place on a date, with a couple others and ALONE. Everything was fresh, I got a break down of certain items, I even had the ice cream! That was incredible! I spent about $70 on myself! Pricey? You bet but it was so worth it! Be prepared to spend a few bucks if you're trying to impress. The comfortable color of the room will lower the guard, you'll see, music was perfect, it was if they knew I was coming and asked me what I wanted to hear! The staff is casual with a little flare, makes it kind of fun. Enjoy the small dining room, you find yourself moving closer to the one you're with, because of the color, the sound and that cozy feel of perfect room with the perfect meal!

Interesting restaurant in a location which has had a lot of turn over. Spartan yet comfortable decor, extremely attentive service, but it is the food that misses the mark. in the tiems I have gone, I have both ordered off the menu and eaten at the sushi bar. In each case, though especially the sushi, the flavors are just wrong. The soy isn't right, the sweet dipping sauce (though thick) is neither sweet nor spicy, the texture of the fish is off (either mealy or chewy), even miso soup came out bland. I will say that the bento box I had for lunch included what was singularly the best tempura shrimp and vegetables I have ever had. The food wasn't remarkably bad; it just was not very good. Go soon if you are thinking about going.

I read the reviews posted and decided to take my wife. I was not disappointed. The staff was attentive, the food was prepared perfectly and the atmosphere was intoxicating( or maybe that was the maritni). I have been to probably 20 different Korean restaurant across America. This was by far the best food, the best atmosphere, and the best service.

I went to gui on their first day of semi opening. And ate free. They've served free food on first and second day. I go there very often still and get the same Great Service and Awesome food as the First day. Wait staffs are very friendly and they know how to treat a customer to feel very comfortable and come back. I've never tried Korean food before and when I've tried it was completely different from what I thought it would be like, and it was awesome. So I started going to different Korean restaurants in Harry Hines too. It is high priced than Harry Hines but I think they're worth it. When you go to McKinney Ave to eat or party, that means you're ready to spend money. Its like same as you're eating sushi at a food court and fine sushi restaurant. And I like eating in Up Town than Harry Hines. Oh! and I've heard they're building a patio which is really hot!!! I can have sake night on their patio.

I've had my share of good and bad Korean food in the past and I can say that as far as the Korean food aspect of things Gui gets 4/5 from me. Pretty good but not the best. The food is priced rediculously. I could easily go to Komart or just about any other Korean restaurant and pay less than half what I did here for more food. The dish I had here was Jayook Bokeum (pork bulgugi as it might be otherwise known) and I payed $27! In comparison the same dish at Korean Bistro in Dallas might cost me $12-14 (and that's expensive) and in other regular places it's about $6-8. Really when I heard the price I figured this was going to be the best Jayook Bokeum I ever had...but it wasn't and it wasn't even a large portion. The positives about this place? The service staff is A+++. Very pleasent attitude and extremely nice. I also liked the atmosphere as it has a nice clean zen like feel to it. Does that justify the hefty price you get charged for the food there? Not in my opinion. The last place I... Read more

When co-hosting another sushi adventure with a friend, I was attracted to the combination of sushi and korean as a welcome change of pace. (Yes, sushi is that regular on my menu that I sometimes need a break.) GUI is a good place for handeling 20 sushi fanatics. We had an exceptionally good evening. When the reservations were made with Sarah she could not have been more enthusiastic and helpful. Upon arrival, Becky took charge and saw to it that we were well taken care of with libations until the rest of our crowd arrived. Then Anton and Moon took over and we kept the running, along with the rest of the patrons. Even our shared tea remained filled for the nearly 2 hours we spent. This is a major accomplishment since the person I shared a teapot with consumes it almost as much as he does oxygen, as do I. I truly do not know how they managed with us seated together. Our dishes continued to arrive in a steady stream so that I doubt anyone was really aware of how long it may have b... Read more

I go to dallas for my business trip almost every two weeks and I've been at so many different restaurants. And now This is my new favorite spot in dallas. Their outside lighted tree and inside view from outside caught my eyes. They didn't disappoint me at all. Wired Swarovski Crystal was handmade by one of the owners (Since I've been going there often, I've got close with owners.). Sushi's always great and other korean dishes are also great. Servers gives the personal attention. Number one thing I like about this place is everytime I go there, everythings the same (Food and Service ETC). Oh! They have more Korean dishes now and I love it!!! I can't wait another two weeks to go back to Dallas and gui..!!

This is my new favorite sushi restaurant. Yes it's small, but that is no way to measure the service and the food. Our server gave us the personal attention we would expect in a spa resort hotel. She was prompt, kind, soft spoken, and extremely respectful. The Poki Cake is to die for! I definitely recommend it. Oh and there's a lot to be said of a restaurant owner that has no problem greeting every table and truly interested in your experience.
