I remember reading that Larry Flynt had nude pictures of Jessica Lynch when her story broke. I'm sure she'll have another 15 minutes if Flynt releases the pictres.

If the Army would learn from the Marine Corps.  Lynch wouldn't have had to pick someone else's weapon.  She would have had her own.  The Special Forces that rescued her were the true heroes.

I don't remember the gal's name, but I remember that it was a black female soldier that saved Jessica Lynch but she got none of the credit. Jessica Lynch got all the credit and that's a darn same. What's going on in America when we can't even celebrate the true American heroes?

I don't mind her as a person but the whole hero story was blown way out of proportion and hyped by the media to try to get the public opinion behind the war.

NOT the "hero" she was made out to be. Wouldn't have been such a media darling if she didn't happen to be cute and photogenic...

This was a media frenzy caused by the 24 hour a day news channels. This whole episode was a slap in the face to the American Servicemen.

Let me say first that I have the utmost respect for PFC Lynch and her service to her country. That is ALWAYS an honorable thing. I will say that the fame that has been bestowed upon her is way overrated. She has not been through anything that many others have been through with less fanfare. This is not her fault, as it was nothing that she went out of her way to ask for. The media is more to blame for their idea of wanting to adopt a darling. Jessica just so happened to fall into their lap.

Had I been in a Hummer that was blown up and been captured they wouldn't have sent a rescue mission for my narrow ass.

Nobody has ever said she was more of a hero than any other soldier. Was Sally Ride proclaimed a better astronaut than any other? No, she became famous because she was the first woman in space. That's what happens to firsts, they get thrown into some degree of fame or another. Jessica was the first woman POW ever rescued. I'm quite sure she didn't ask for this notoriety, and I'm sure she would have avoided if she could have.

To people who think she was a fraud: shove it! She, unlike others on this 15 minutes of fame list, did not try ot be famous. I'm sure that if she had the choice, she would be happier being normal than have her 15 minutes but have to go through everything again. We love you Jessica!

All the negative comments about her are based on hearsay and misinterpretations of events. She never said she was a hero and had the courage to tell the truth (and not what the military and media wanted her to say). I wish her the best.

She gets 2 Stars for acknowledging that she didn't do certain things. She loses 3 for pretending not to remember others. After Hustler magazine said they have nude photos of her frolicking with male soldiers it made me wonder...was Jessica REALLY sexally assaulted by the Iraqis?? Probably not. Her perianal lesions may have come from good Ol' Uncle Sam.

in the interviews i have seen with her she seems to be a grounded, but not terribly bright young woman who made the best of a bad situation and would prefer to be left alone so that she can recover from her injuries and go on with her life.

I admire her because she is in the forces but all the fame is not needed. She did not save anyone or do anything to help our country. She was captured, beat up, and laid in a hospital bed. The people who should be getting all the fame are the brave ones who saved her.

I live close to Jessica's home town. The other buddies that saved her life was heros. She has done nothing to deserve her big deals, She is a very whiney girl.

I'm surprised by the comments here, and in particular, the narrow-mindedness that those in the military (who have commented here) are showing. Hero's are not always about how many bullets were fired, or even if they hit the target. Hero's are built by character, and from what i've seen so far, Jessica is surely standing tall here. She has suffered unimaginable humiliation at the hands of an enemy (regardless of whether she SIGNED UP FOR IT OR NOT), and when she presents herself now, she is humble, and strong, and courageous, and a symbol of National resolve, BECAUSE of what she went through. So what if she's a woman? So what if she didn't fire 4000 rounds of ammunition first. She has shown incredible courage to talk publicly about what has transpired, and in times of war, nationsl respond to those who show character. Stop worrying that the media is over-hyping...they over-hype EVERYTHING. And give her some credit to still be standing tall, as an American, and as an American Woman!

I have read all these comments about Jessica Lynch and I am shocked by the attitudes of people. Yes, I have my reservations about calling her a hero but she is an american soldier and she deserves respect. She didn't ask for military and goverment pr and the media to go berserk with her story. She was just a lost, brave little girl who folllowed orders and did her duty. She doesn't deserve slander for something she had no control over. I mean its not as if she asked for the Bronze Heart. I believe those of you writing angry comments are angry at the wrong person and besides, how do you expect us to take you seriously when you fill your comments with insults, bad grammar and wrong spelling? Give me a break.

All injuries she sustained were because she became lost. Members of the 507th were fighting and dying while she lay in hospital bed. Who morns for them? Who will make a movie about them? Weapons did not fire because they had not been cleaned. John Paul Jones is a hero. Madam Lynch is a representative of the fallacies of our modern miltary machine and symptomatic of a media hysteria that has overtaken every aspect of our lives. I pray to God that I will never act in a manner such as she--before, during, and after her "ordeal."

I hope she doesn't think that her nude pics are safe with Hustler-he is just waiting for the right moment to tarnish her goody two shoe image. It is sad, she is about self-whawt could be heroic about that?

Good for her that she "won" a million dollar book deal. I'm not one to judge whether she deserves it. Just don't tell me she's a hero. She got captured through the incompetence of her group and she's lucky to be alive. It's a shame that the media blew her story out of proportion.

My friends grandfather fought in WWII and he said "Back then if you got lost and got your entire squad killed you would have been court-martialed." (They didn't even have GPS then!) So today we turn them into celebs and instant millionaires. Audie Murphy is turning in his grave. Jessica Lynch is a cheater and a liar and anyone that supports this story is also. There are no functions of the brain that allow such a gross distortion of the facts. Interested parties can read the books by Daniel Schacter and others on brain function. Bush's lies gave us a war based on lies. It's no wonder that the 'hero' of the war is also based on lies.

As with any soldier, I'm glad that she made it home safe. However, I'm highy annoyed at the media for raising her status as something above and beyond everyone else. A few days ago, a small headline on Netscape News caught my attention. On October 22, the APO reported that Lance Cpl. Sok Khak Ung, 22, was shot to death at a family barbacue just 12 days before he was to be discharged. The headline? "Marine Who Helped Rescue Iraq POW Killed". The picture? Not a picture of the man who died, but of Jessica Lynch, with a picture of the US flag like a halo around her face. I am outraged at how disrespectful the media has become, to identify a man as just some guy who rescued a "hero". Though this is no fault of Lynch's, and I have nothing against her, but I wish the media would realize that "small cute blonde girls" aren't the only heroes out there.

Let’s get things straight, Lynch is no hero! They found her weapon in Iraq and reported that she had not fired a round! See didn't even shoot at the enemy. The real heroes in her unit are the ones that are buried somewhere in the Iraqi desert. The ones that put up a fight instead of just raising their arms in terror. The real heroes are the Marines that saved her and the remaining people from her unit. The real heroes are not in the spotlight and will never be in the spotlight! Hopefully her fame lasts just as long as her tour of duty!

I was in the same battalion as Lynch during the war. Every time I hear about her and 507th being called heroes, it makes me sick! She didnt do anything heroic, though people claimed at first that she pulled Piestewa out of her humvee, and killed up to nine Iraqi's before being captured, it all turn out to be false. When we first heard about the incident, we didnt know what to think, all we heard was that 507th had been captured and that the Iraqis had 16 POWs, with five being shown on TV. That really hit us hard because five people form our unit had been separated from us during the convoy to our first objective. All we knew was that it was people from our battalion. Later we were told that our people had been picked up by the marines, and that some of the people from 507th had been killed. Well, to make a long story short, we were pissed the whole time because they told us some had most likely been executed blah blah blah. Then, Lynch was rescued by SF. We knew marines had died during the diversion to get her out, but we didnt know that it was needless to send so many people to cause the distraction. And since she was rescued, I've havent heard her say anything about the marines that died to get her sorry ass out of there. And why is she getting so much attention? What about Johnson? Or Hudson? Or Hernandez? Miller? Riley? Hell, they were held longer than her. Lynch's injuries were sustained during a collision with another vehicle. Johnson and Hernandez both sustained gunshot wounds. I guess if they were pretty little blond girls they would be getting as much attention as Lynch. So the 507th are heroes? Fine, call them what you want, but every thursday when we do our specified training for the day, we also wonder if they're doing land navigation or weapons cleaning. Get lost, become a heroe.

Well as a Iraqi Freedom Veteran I have to say that I am in total disagreement that she is a hero. She in no way rates a Bronze star. It is a total digrace that she has been given such lavish gifts. She got captured and taken away. Thats it. I would have never been taken alive as long as I have the means to resist. Thats an oath My Marines and I have been sworn too. Its a total farce what has happened here. What about all the other soldiers and marines that die over in Iraq and Afganistan everyday. We dont hear about these heros and give them scholorships and bronze stars even though they rate it way more than her.

I think it is a real shame that ANY American would badmouth this girl for simply serving her country. ALL soldiers are heroes if you ask me....including Jessica Lynch...to those of you that are running your mouths about her, you should feel ashamed.

The story began with Jessica in a fire fight in which she emptied her clip, she was defending the convoy.The American military, then (using top intelligence) located Jessica and staged a brave rescue. Jessica was in rough shape due to her possible torture. The truth came out but nobody cared, it didn't matter that the convoy was running away and crashed, Jessica didn't fire a single shot and that she was treated great in a well kept hospital and rescued due to the fact that she was allowed to be rescued.

Her claim to fame is being the recipient of humanitarian aid from Iraqis who took pity after a vehicle was badly wrecked. We all learned we were fed propaganda, so why are we deaf when the truth emerges? The media deserves a One on this, but I'll give this young woman as a person a Five. However, if she starts pimping a Bobble Head doll of herself on the Home Shopping Network, I'm taking off a star.

it was a joke. they lost there cool in combat and 4 of them lost their lives and she was knocked out and didn't wake up until she was in the hospital.the only medal she should get is the P.O.W.MEDAL.she is no HERO. those were give me me medals because she was a woman.aLL THE REAL HEROS WERE OUT FIGHTING THE iraqisand some of them didn't even get a medal. How can you be a hero when you didn't even do anything.by THE WAY I'm a viet nam veteran and I think ought to be an investgation in it and her medals taken from her.because there is something wrong with this picture.the veterans that died are rolling over in their graves. Poor girl. Poor little uneducated hillbilly girl. How can we pass judgement on her, when absolutely nothing truthful is known about her. The Pentagon has kept her under tight wraps ever since the day her name was first uttered in the media. Her story was complete balderdash, but that is hardly her fault. How could anyone have an opinion on her personally?

She just makes me want to stand up and say the pledge of allegience! Her parents must be very proud to know their girl cares for her own country's liberty enough to shoot down the evil terrorists who tried to kill her and took her hostage. I just hope her TV movie does her justice. A true American hero forever and ever!

I am a U.S. Army Sergeant in the Infantry. Ive seen alittle something in a 18 hour fire fight in afghanistan and from what the reports about her actions on the objective during the ambush is that she was wounded immediately and then caputered. Not one article or report did it say she ever fired back at the enemy, even though a couple of her fellow soldiers with her did return fire to defend there position. I believe on of them was said to kill atleast 11 before running out of ammo. I am confused why none of these other soldiers r being put on t.v. to be displayed?? Here is how i look at it. Her convoy was ambushed, she recieved a wound that wasnt as serious they said as they thought from the begining as it was reported, they captured her and put her in a hospital bed while her fellow soldiers where killed and or interigated on t.v. all over the world. She layed in a bed and was treated for her wounds fairly. An iraqi informed troops where she was and so they came in and took rescued her on t.v. and now she is made to be a hereo?? Honestly i dont see how this works! I firmly believe that this is simply hyped up by media and higher up in washington. The special forces men who was involved in the rescued even said that there was very little resistence. The doors where already unlocked they reported but kicked in anyway. I believe the media and washington found a perfect chance to make something positive come out of this whole deal and is trying to take it and milk it for all its worth. If i was one of the men in her convoy who was wounded and still managed to fight back before being captured i would be kinda pissed off after my rescue. I have seen young men do twice as much under combat as jessica lynch's actions and recieve a small medal, a hand shake with a slap on the back. They r making her the poster "girl" of this operation iraqi freedom to calm down those, "this war is going bad, why are we here people", and it makes me sick. I can only imagine all the intense pain and fear she faced. To learn she received humanitarian care and eventually her freedom back makes me thankful for her. Many folks who have endured the atrocities of war weren't so fortunate. Yes, it's fair to criticize both the media and Washington sources for not correcting the fictitious parts of her story sooner. Deception happened. However, I'm sure Private Lynch has the integrity to want her story told truthfully and has mixed feelings about being used as a political pawn. Should she still be aggrandized while others maimed aren't? Maybe we have given all our attention to one of the happier stories at the expense of the larger picture. But I can't call Jessica, the human being, less than great since she didn't ask to be annointed the biggest hero of Iraq by folks who were so motivated. Nor did she create the reasons why most of us prefer a made-for-TV movie over an unsensationalized documentary.

Just another propaganda milatary story,the same as Sgt York and Pvt Roger Young.She said "She was also an American soldier" correction,she is a Soldier of the United States.America is a continent.She should check her Birth Certificate and Her milatary records,and reinroll in Geography 101.

Jessica Lynch never fired a shot. Her rifle jammed and both of her arms broke, as well as her legs, and was probably knocked out, when the vehicle she was traveling in, collided with the truck in front of it. The driver and two other passengers were killed instantly. For this, she received a bronze star, and a purple heart. Also, she was "rescued" from a hospital where she was receiving care. The rest of her captured unit wasn't "freed" for another 11 days. They didn't get rescued, or a heroes welcome. For this she received the POW medal. She is no hero, but a manipulation of sordid propaganda and proof that the american populace, at it's least, is only mindless sheep, willing to believe anything T.V. says, a la Homer Simpson. The only retribution real heros may glean will be the fact that Miss Lynch will have to live with her celebrity as more troops die and are maimed in Iraq, at King Georges will.

I am also a private serving at Ft. Bliss, and I also served in Southwest Asia before, during and after the war. This entire fiasco regarding Private Lynch is indicative of a massive drop in standards on several fronts. For one, since we have not had a major war since Vietnam, the standards for giving our military decorations has dropped like a stone. The Bronze Star used to be a medal that meant something. The Purple Heart, well, that's nothing more than the enemy's marksmanship badge, and I'm glad never to have "won" one. That one and the Prisoner of War medal certainly aren't honorable decorations. For another thing, the media's connotation of the word "hero" has diluted it to the point of being unrecognizable. Jessica Lynch could not stand shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Audie Murphy or John Paul Jones or Rodger Young. A hero is someone who rushes a machine gun bunker by himself in order to rescue his unit. A hero, refusing to surrender, decides to take on wave after wave of the enemy, knowing he will probably be killed. Jessica Lynch, and indeed every one of her comrades in the 507th, doesn't even deserve pity, much less decoration. If we don't have heros (and no one yet who has served in the Iraq war is a hero), we'll create them. Which brings me to my last point. Lynch and her cohorts are certainly not innocent victims. For one, they proved their incompetence in the field (if the Master Sergeant and Warrant Officer leading the convoy weren't killed, they should have been court-martialed). Their weapons jammed because they likely never cleaned them. When first rescued, Lynch told authorities that she had no recollection whatsoever of her ordeal. When she was thrown from the HMMWV she broke both her legs and probably passed out. But a military member is allowed to deny a medal they are recommended for, if they feel they do not deserve it. If Lynch is not a physical coward, she's certainly a moral coward, and that goes for the rest of the martyred 507th. When our senior military commanders bowed to the popular media and awarded these unfortunates with medals for being routed, they laid low our military heritage. You take a wrong turn, get shot to pieces and pass out, and you get a Bronze Star for your trouble? Audie Murphy is probably rolling over in his grave.

She joined the military to get an education, not to serve her country. She became a fuelist, took a wrong turn, got captured and then was rescued. She was a victim not a hero. She was decorated three times for lying in a hospital bed. The people that died fighting for our country weren't even honored. The only reason she got so much media attention is because of her gender. So the moral of the story is that if you're a young woman in America and you f*ck up to the point where others have to bail you out then you'll be rewarded.

Jessica Lynch is a fraud. A national hero...please. She is so far from being a national hero. I would hate to think that my hero cant reading a flipping map. I would hate to think my hero is responsible for the deaths of her fellow soldiers. A hero...NO. A MURDERER...How can America claim her as a hero when she isnt smart enough to follow directions and then has the nerve to make up a bald face lie about how she was fighting off Iragis when the truth of the matter is she didnt know how to use remedial action which is taught to every soldier so when your gun jams you can get it back on target. Yeah I guess she is a qualified national hero ...She is an Idiot,Murderer, and has no integrity

Ugh! Enough already! Now Jessica Lynch is getting a Bronze Star?! For what?! Crashing her vehicle and being knocked unconcious, then taken prisoner for a week! And, apparently, the Iraqi doctors & nurses treated her very well! The Bronze Star is for bravery, and I don't believe lying in a hospital bed is very brave... What about the other 507 POW's?! I don't hear anything about them...and Jessica's getting free college, cars, new additions to her house... I'm just so sick of this story...

Just like alot of you, I am sure Ms.Lynch is a great gal. Nobody is really rating her, they are rating the circumstances that have forced her into the public eye. Having said that, does anyone know what the definition of a "hero" is?? The word "hero" has been bandied about alot since 9-11 and I find it rather sickening. A hero is not someone that does his or her job that they are paid to do and have been trained for. That is call "a job well done" or "job description". A real hero is that person that, with no thought to his or her safety, no skill or training, has stepped out on a limb and does a heroic act that otherwise would not have been asked of him or her. Is Ms.Lynch a hero? No.
