As I hear, Norway doesn't really want to join the Union because of the Common Agricultural Policy. If they enter, they won't be able to subsidize their small farms. Granted, farmers there are a small part of the population yet they are a powerful interest group. Most of the countries who are reluctant about joining and becoming part of the integration process are those up in Scandinavia who feel that they will lose some of their economic prosperity if they tie their currency and markets to the well being of other countries with differing interests. I believe that they do have legitimate concerns...

My own country, I would die to get Norway to join the Union! Twice the Norwegian population has through referenda refused to entering the federation, but for the last twelve months there has been a majority of Norwegians wanting to join EU, and at this date about two out of three Norwegians have a positive attitude towards entering the European Union. Also, the most influential politicans have promised that a new referendum will be organized in the parliamentarian period between 2005 and 2009, most likely in 2007, so I'm very positive and secure that we'll enter the great community in a few years to come. :)
