Blame her and Mariah and Celine for the crowded field of operatic R&B; warblers that are consuming much of the radio airwaves in the current decade.  But there is no denying that she had the pipes to deliver the goods in her prime.  It's just unfortunate that the goods turned out to be some pretty awful bland pop.  If she ever pulls herself back up from the gutter maybe she'll be able to put the experience to good use as a soul survivor and make some decent records with grit and honest feeling.  Nah, who am I kidding, once a Diva, always a Diva.

She can sing but screeches too much for me and doesnt sing my kind of music.

Whitney Houston has the best voice since the early days of Aretha Franklin.  Her version of the National Anthem was spine-tingling.  Pop music does not bring out the depth and width of her voice.  I would like to hear her sing "grown-up" music.  My wish is that she'll get her personal life back on track and sing some adult music.  Her voice in incomparable for this generation of singers.

I don't like her, and her style of music isn't one I really listen to, but she does have a good set of pipes. Or she did, before the crack and whatever else she was (is) doing took hold...

Whitney Houston had it all. First she had an unbelievable bloodline (Mother-Cissy Houston, Cousin-Dionne Warwick). Then she had Aretha Franklin for a Godmother ! At the age of 21 she becomes a big big star and then this strong unique voice. Her last great performance vocally was the duet 'When you Believe' with Mariah carey, but even then you got the impression she wasnt what she used to be. She was overshadowed in that recording by Mariah (although 'live' she did better than Ms Carey at the Oscars performance that year)and the rest is all down hill...What happened? Whitney Houston totally forgot where she came from.....

Whitney has a fantastic voice. Too bad she had to screw it all up.

Although she has destroyed her health and career with drugs and by marrying a total sleazeball-I heard her sing ,live and acapella,years ago in a nighclub when she was just starting out:She had a GREAT voice,and plenty of control of it.It's a shame what's happened to her.What a waste.

How anyone could listen to her belt out I Will Always Love You and put her on this list is way beyond me. You may not like her music but there is no doubt at all that this woman can sing.
