I can't agree more than with Seraph!!! I walked into a "care clinic" by walgreens, because I couldn't get to my internist. After telling the Dr. that I CANT take amoxyclin or alot of other strong stuff (I get yeast infections, metallic mouth, oral thrush, dizziness, halucinations) I told her please give me Z-pak, that i was flying to also San Diego in a few days and can't be on something for 14 days... she totally dissed Z-pak and said it doesn't work (that is bull- it has little to 0 side effects and is fast relief for sinus infection, which I have) I took one pill of this crap, and decided NO WAY was I going to contue for 14 days, the taste alone in mouth is enough to drive someone crazy... the air taste weird on it.. I called my internist and gladly agreed to call in Z-pak for 5 days, one pill aday, and nto this crap that is 1000 mg a day for 14 days!!!!!! Strongly avoid this drug, do your research what you put into your body. This is classic example of Dr.s getting paid by cer... Read more

I give this antibiotic a 4 for working, and a 2 for overall discomfort it causes while taking it--then split the difference! I got sick the day before I was to go to San Diego for a few days vacation, my regular doctor was booked solid, so I went to a walk in clinic for treatment as I was busy myself getting ready for the trip, they said I had a lung infection, could still fly and prescribed biaxin (can't remember the dosage)...I took it and after about 48 hours, had the WORST heartburn I have ever experienced (I have trouble taking anti-biotics anyway which is where my regular doctor would have probably prescribed something less intense), I drank an entire bottle of anti-acid trying to quench the pain!! I mean, double over pain. So, I asked a pharmacist in San Diego what I could take and he said to make sure I took Biaxin with a FULL meal (I had been just eating a quick muffin and banana type tourist breakfast)--and to drink lots of water, so I did as he suggested and that helped a... This is the worst medication I've ever taken. I was prescribed it to treat a sinus infection that had me coughing like a fiend all through the night. Not only did the stuff fail to get rid of the cough, but it sent me into a tailspin of side effects that were much worse than the infection itself. For starters, Biaxin tastes like death. Bitter, metallic death. And that taste doesn't go away either, it stays with you twenty-four-seven. The only way to get rid of it (temporarily) is to replace it with another taste, which is why spearmint gum became my best friend for two weeks. On top of the taste, my appetite was completely wiped out, causing me to feel full after only two bites (and of course everything tasted about three notches below how it should taste). Eating like a bird for 15 days in a row wasn't too great on my already thin frame. The worst part came when I experienced depression (I had never been depressed before in my life), memory loss, hallucinations, vivid nightmares, and ... Read more
