Florida has NEVER gone unbeaten and untied. EVER, and that is in 96 years of football. Alabama by contrast has 8 unbeaten/untied teams(and that only includes seasons with 10+ wins). In fact the ONLY Florida team to ever finish without a loss was the 1911 Pyle team that finished 5-0-1. Is there more bad news? Florida has failed to win a single game three times in its history. Once they were just 0-1-0 but the other two times they were 0-9 and 0-10-1. Since Florida started playing football in 1906 they had only seven 9 wins seasons prior to 1990 and no 10 win seasons. By contrast they have lost at least 5 games in THIRTY-THREE(33) seasons. Over 1/3 of their history. They have also had 22 LOSING seasons which is almost 1/4 of their entire playing history. The Spurrier years were remarkable because of how NEW winning was to Florida fans. But even Spurrier lost at least 2 games in all but two seasons out of 12 as head coach. He lost at least 4 games twice as well. The folly of it all is how "great" Florida was even under Spurrier. He PROVED that high powered offenses inspire awe in fan and opponent alike but cannot win championships. In all those good years he only managed 2 games for the national championship and in one he got clobbered and embarrassed and in the other they had to avenge an earlier loss to claim it. His SEC record is more impressive but still not up to the calibre of Paul Bryant. Florida without Spurrier is destined to return to days when mediocrity was something to HOPE for.
