Though I used to pretty much worship FDR I must say in retrospect maybe he wasn't such a great guy after all. He certainly didn't instigate sufficient New Deal reforms (ie: he didn't want to create a deficit, but wanted to balance the budget) until Keynes "fireside chat" with him (in response to BIGBABY's post it is probably innacurate to call him a communist as his policies were never redistrubutive in nature). Though to be fair Roosevelt probably did want to get involved with fighting Hitler earlier then his isolationist advisors would have wanted him to. Furthermore I don't personally see whats wrong with running for excessive terms. Just my two cents

He wasn't perfect, but he single-hendedly brought us into WWII to fight Hitler and Mussolini. His lend/lease program, started before Pearl Harbor, with the Brits and Russians stopped Europe from falling to Germany. At this time, most of America wanted to remain neutral.

Stuck our citizens in camps, married Eleanor (his cousin), lied to our civilians, enforced a light form of dictatorship, and allowed Pearl Harbor to happen! And what's with him serving more than 8 years? How could he have been that popular? Even Truman was somewhat better than him!
