Interestingly, the Jeff Beck Group did a very raw and muddy version of this the year before- Page's friend and former Yardbirds bandmate Beck's band had put out a fine album of largely covers, "Truth" the year before, which provided the blueprint for Led Zeppelin's debut, which also featured quite a few covers: it's probably the most similar album to Led Zeppelin's first by any major artist or band of the period.
