Blockbuster's customer service is very good, nothing about it is bad, I mean how can a employee at a movie store be of bad service, unless they are just a bad person in general, otherwise, if you have any questions they pretty much just look up answers on their computers. What I don't like about Blockbuster, is that for a while now, everytime I go in to ask if they have a movie for rent, they say they don't have it... I don't go in very often, maybe like once or twice a month seeing as I can get movies on satellite, but like recently for instance, I went in to order Lord of the Flies, because it was on my satellite but I couldn't get it for some reason so I went into blockbuster to rent it and the guy at the desk checked the computer and he said they don't have it, and I went in the action aisle, looking under the L's and I didnt see it, just lord of the rings and some other lord movie but no Lord of the Flies, 1999 version or 1963 version. I mean come on, that movie was amazing and th... Read more

I RARELY rent movies because I get my movies at the library and they even have the fairly new releases you can rent for $2. But there was this ONE MOVIE the library didn't have and Comcast On Demand didn't have, so I go into my local Blockbuster ( in Huntsville, AL by the way.) When I checked out, they told me if I returned the movie within 24 hrs, I would get a refund of $1. Even though it was only a buck, I really wanted to see the movie anyway, so I watched it right away and returned it in less than 24 hours. I never got a refund but honestly didn't think much about until I went in to browse around today. So I was just asking them if I have to DO anything to get that 24-hour return refund and not only did they claim I didn't return it in 24 hours, they claimed I was late and they had assessed a late fee. They talked to me like I was a second-grader and said I kept it more than 2 days and in the future I should either bring the movie inside or call them to make sure they received it ... Read more

I have something to say to all of you that have anything bad to say about the employees at Blockbuster. I have worked for Blockbuster for 9 years now and love it more than anything. I work 2 jobs and still go in there with a smile willing to help out in any way I need to. But day after day there are a lot of customers that come in that have nothing but bitching to do. Why are your rental fees so high? Why don't your movies work? Blah Blah Blah. Number 1 us employees at the stores DO NOT MAKE THE PRICES so stop yelling at us CALL CORPORATE.... Number 2 the only people that watch the movies are CUSTOMERS so YOU are the reason none of the rentals work. So why don't you cut some of us employees some slack I am sure at your jobs you get bitched at and you hate it so why must you come into our place of business and give us the same grief? Blockbuster does everything they can to make sure we have the tools to help you consumers in any way possible there is only so much we can do. Does any... Read more

I've worked for Blockbuster for almost a year now and It's entertaining reading all of the kinds of post people put on here. If only you could see our point of perspective maybe then you wouldn't be so harsh and you would understand how it's like for us to deal with you ignorant, childish people.

I cancelled my membership at Blechbuster & upgrated my membership at Netflix so i wouldn't have to deal with their stupid, snotty, moronic employess. Life's hard enough - I should have to deal with rude retards when i'm renting a freaking DVD for crying out loud. They allow dogs in the store & defend the practice, saying "They're more afraid of people than dogs". Gee, maybe when DOGS pay for membership, dogs should be allowed to walk around inside the store!

I'm not sure why all of the bad ratings. I live in Southern California, and have always had great experiences there. The staff is always there to help me choose a movie, and they seem to be getting better on their stock. (although I prefer to watch the older movies). Why does everyone think that the prices are high? Have you been to a movie lately? I will gladly pay 5$ (for two "favorites") instead of the $12 to get into a theatre. Personally, I have no plans on changing.

Blockbuster compared to all other movie rental stores is the best. The customer service is great if you need to find a movie you're unsure of. The selection is by far better than other local stores in our area. Yes, they do run out of movies at times, but I have better luck with them versus the other stores. The blockbuster in my town also has week long rentals for only $3-4, and no late fees. They only charge you when you return an item way past the due date. If there are problems with the dvd they always replace it, and finally they offer great bundling packages for used dvds, 4 for $20? You can't beat that.

Wow, lots of negative reviews. I have the online option and they are fast. They recently changed my plan but I get five free store rentals each month also. Pickins are not great but I rented Knocked Up this weekend for free and they then ship me another movie fast. Hard to not like it

This is about Blockbuster online - I haven't rented a movie in-store anywhere in almost a year. Blockbuster Online has had some technical troubles, but whenever service suffers, I get coupons for free rentals at the local retail outlet - not ideal, but certainly not bad.  With the 'swap mail movies for your choice at local retail' thing they've got going, it's a remarkably better deal than Netflix offers - especially for frequent movie watchers. Service in the stores on this has ranged from well-meaning to almost outstanding.  The in-store selection is thin - probably the worst thing about Blockbuster.  All in all, I'm pretty well satisfied.

It is rare when we go to a Blockbusters. They are so overpriced.  Especially for their games. I have read they now offer online ordering mail service like Netflix does. After the experience we had with them Sunday, we would not consider their mailing online option. We had not been at the actual store for a long time. Today my family went to Kroger to do some quick shopping. While we were at the Uscan we noticed a cardboard envelope at the bottom of our cart. I picked it up and there was a DVD inside{Pretty in Pink}  the envelope looked like something they would send in the mail. Feeling we should be a good samaritan we decided  to return the DVD in person to our local Blockbusters. { If we had lost a DVD we hope someone would do the same for us} We came up to the desk and told a girl who looked to be barely out of high school  that we found this DVD with  Blockbuster  on the envelope and wanted to turn it in. She just grabbed in out of our hand said Oh! looked at it went hmm. and then ... Read more

They are so out dated, its not even funny! I haven't rented from them in probraly 5 years. I got a hassel back then about a late charge they said I owed which I didn't. If their staff would check-in rentals when they're supposed to, They would'nt loose customers.

This global corporation had an almost virtual momopoly on the industry for way too long and clearly took many of its hard-working customers for granted, gouging consumers left and right nearly every chance it got. Though it may still do well in third-world nations such as Brazil, its days of dominance in the U.S. market have gradually been dying over the past few years. In sum, the advent of the internet has royally screwed Blockbuster's profit shares, just as Blockbuster had done to thousands of mom & pop video stores for 15 yrs prior. Ahhh, karma.

Very expensive. The no late fee thing has resulted in poor selection and increased rental prices. I like to rent a bunch of 7 day movies. Blockbuster charger you $13.99 for six 7 day rentals. Rogers, the other big chain (in Canada) charges $11.99 for seven 7 day rentals. (or $10.99 for 6) selection is also much better. I avoid Blockbuster

I'm not one to judge on a company entirely based on just one experience, unless it is extremely serious. I have not been satisfied with Blockbuster's service the last couple of times I have walked in their doors. A couple of months ago, my friend and I went to rent an older VHS movie (hoping to save money since it wasn't a DVD) and when it was rung up the price was the same as a new release dvd. I looked up on their menu and saw that and thought that was alittle stupid. I went in last week to rent Fever Pitch since it just came out and Blockbuster didn't have any more. I talked to the cashier to see if any had been turned in up front and he said no. I asked him if they do the guarantee raincheck thing since this movie just came out. He said not at that particular Blockbuster because this is a franchise! I was not very happy through these experiences, I went to Hollywood Video after and they were so much better. I know where I'll be renting now...

Blockbuster just doesn't care. I have been using the Blockbuster on-line service for a couple of months when I found out how poor their customer service is! I watched a movie on my computer late one night and when I pulled the disc out of the drive, I accidentally (I was tired and half asleep) pulled my Pirates game CD out of the other drive and put it in the envelope and sent it to blockbuster. I discovered the error within 24 hours, emailed Blockbuster to let them know that the wrong disc was on it's way to them and to please send it back. The response I got was Please package and return the Blockbuster DVD with another Blockbuster DVD and Please package and return the Blockbuster DVD with another Blockbuster DVD Basicly we don't care about your disc, just give us ours. A week later I Emailed again, this time a bit upset, and the response was a bit more like they cared, and that they would pass along my suggestion of having an automatic system to return incorrectly sent discs.... This is a unique problem- I travel a lot and have a card for Blockbuster and every different place I go it's a huge hassle because I'm not home. There's too much technology for this kind of irritation. Good Hollywood selection but lacking in foreign films. . .I go to Blockbuster when I want a new release but I don't like the prices at all. . .I think they could be cheaper.

I used to rent VHS tapes from Blockbuster. In recent years, every other tape was so damaged as to be unviewable. I talked to my local stores and was told that when someone returned a tape that they said was bad, Blockbuster just put it back on the shelf to be rented again. One of the workers showed me the secret mark that employeer put on a tape known to be damaged. This helped me to get viewable tapes for a while. Now that Blockbuster has gone to DVDs, they care even less about the VHS tapes. They stopped even marking the bad tapes on their shelves. I finally threw away my Blockbuster card.

Well, I previously wrote a review condemning Blockbuster for a practice that is no longer in place. But now, it seems the no-late fee policy is leaving store shelves empty as people are keeping them for a month. Methinks this is just a ploy to buy out Hollywood Video for the last time. They will probably succeed now, and Hollywood will be screwed. However, it's more than likely Netflix will be the one that survives this World War at the end.

The Microsoft/McDonald's/Starbucks of video rental places, and they act like it. Titles are often all rented out (especially at their smaller locations), staff is out to lunch, and I haven't found a video store with higher rental prices. They're OK if you have no other choices, which in many towns is often the case, but just about any competitor can beat the pants off of them. Their recent dropping of late fees just shows how desperately they're groping for customers.

People! Hating Blockbuster is not going to make your lives any less miserable! I wish people would realize that every is run by a different store manager and staff! Just because the staff at the Main St. store are less than stellar does not mean the staff at the 1ST St. store are worthless! Don't judge the company because of one bad experience. Also EVERY Blockbuster store is required to have poster on the price board with the store managers name and number as well as the district managers name and phone number. If you don't see and the staff won't give up the goods, call the store at 10am any Monday morning, I GUARANTEE the store manager will be there, and just like with any person, treat them how you would like to be treated!!!!! No manager at any business is going to go out of their way to help a person that is cussing and calling them and all their employees morons! All of a sudden 4 movies are sent out (my membership is for 3). Still leaving. Very slow to ship, if you can't get any movies in your Q. Same day a movie comes out it's listed as short or long wait.

Yes, I work for BBV. I am not here to yell or argue though. I believe knowledge is power and maybe I can impart some helpful understanding of how BBV (and other video stores) work. Here is a break down of how extended viewing fees work: 2 Day rental- Due back on the third day by noon. The day you rent it counts as the first day. So, you check out a movie on Tuesday- Tuesday is day 1, Wednesday is day 2, Thursday is day 3 and the day it is due- by noon. The weekly rentals are the same- due back on the 8th day by noon. The day you check it out counts as day 1. So, basically if you check it out on Tuesday it is due back the next Wednesday by noon. Late movies are charged by the rental period- not by the day. So, if a movie is an 8 day rental it will check back out to you once every 8 days. Which is why they are called extended viewing fees instead of late fees- you can keep them the entire extra rental period and only be charged the one fee. Why are extended viewing fees charged? It i... Read more

I have never been impressed with Blockbuster. Rental fees are too high, selection is mediocre and rental periods are far too short. Plus, by having the cutoff time for return set at 12 noon, this guarantees that many people won't get an item returned by then (before work) and Blockbuster gets to charge late fees.

WAS a customer at NW 23rd in OKC. My rating would be in the negative syar range. No more.Have had trouble twice with surly manager. First time tried to pay late fee and was told to call collection agency. Spoke to another employee who took care of it for me. I purchased allot of used DVD's that I had already seen (just to fill out our collection of movies) and did not watch til a few months later. DVD had a bad scratch and when I called was told by employee to bring it in and exchange it. Was then accused of lying about being told that, chastised for not watching the movie as soon as I bought it and then accused of scratching it and trying to return it. The movie was then shoved across the counter at me and I was told It's yours. I have been in the service industry for over 20 years and even when I was treated like crap kept smiling and knocking myself out for people. Get over it, the customer pays your paycheck, you work for them. Even when they are not right they are right its allot ... Read more

As a new customer of Blockbuster, I was out of town and my adult daughter returned my video games for me. Unfortunately, she assumed they were from Hollywood Video. As soon as the employee got the games, he immediately called Blockbuster and told them what happened. The person at Blockbuster assured the Hollywood Video employee that there would be no late fee charge to us, as they were returned on time. When my husbund went to rent a video, to our surprise, they chaged us $20.00 late fee. My husband explained what happened, and what we were told. They did not care, and charged us anyway. That was my first time experience. It was also my last experience. I'll stick to Hollywood Video. Tina DaSilva Vancouver, WA

They are getting a bit deceptive on late return fees. Most of the time, we contest and they agree. They better. My biggest gripe with Blockhead is selection. It seems like really good movies (like Lost in Translation) don't even fill up one row, while stinkers like Joe Dirt, Runaway Bride, or Dude Where's My Car occupy whole walls. If you are a working person, you can almost forget about renting any new releases for the first week it's out. On a Saturday night, I'm often wandering around looking for something in stock other than Teen Wolf Too. More often than not, I'm driving home unhappy (i.e. without anything). When I come home, Wifey asks, Whadja get at Blockbuster. I reply, Nuttin. She replies, Well, Trading Spaces is on. I reply, ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz.

Wrongly charged late fees. We rented a video's Dec 28th for a week. They were Tale of Two Towers & Fellowship of the ring. They claim one of them was returned nearly a week and a half late, but the other was returned on time. Funny thing was that I returned both at the same time in their drop box after we saw Return of the King Jan 1st. I remember very clearly since we had a blast at the theater and it was late at night and very cold and I hate the cold. (I had been looking forward to the movie for a long time too) Now how could one of the videos be late but not the other if both were placed in the drop box at the same time. Yet somehow I am at fault and owe $35 in late fees. Additionally, we found out about the late fee while trying to rent another movie 6 months later. There were no calls from Block Buster, no postcards....nothing. Since we are planning to buy a house soon we are VERY careful to pay all our bills. Blockbuster personell say that I have received the call... Read more
